He is a ruthless man because the world made him be. He is powerless because he hates his past self and can't do anything to change it or go back in time.
When he was young, he is the so-called good person that everyone will praise with their words. But words are words afterall. Because of his naiveness he lost many things that is important to him.
And when he became ruthless enough person he is already old.
So here comes....
To live a comfortable life in his last days, he even bought brand new furnitures with all his money last year. And spent his last bit of money for good foods through out this whole year.
You may ask why he did this foolish thing...
It's because, he only planned to live a blissful year and commit suicide.
