Capítulo 1094: LIVING ON A PRAYER

"It is not that I think you are entirely wrong, Princess, but your solution appears too simple to be complete." Wolfgang informed me.

I nodded, but my confidence refused to be shaken, "That's why I have betas."

I pushed another sheet of paper to Ben, "Make it work, please. Tonight's raid - write it here."

"Whatever, I'm still making the rescue list." Ben grumbled.

I took a glance at the list - he had started a third very wobbly hand-scribbled column on his first sheet, "Your writing is terrible."

I spied a white board marker that had rolled against the shelf behind Dad's desk. I picked it up.

"We need a database - or at least a laptop and spreadsheet here!" Ben groused. I pushed him another sheet of paper, "You can write down the tech upgrade plan."

I even wrote the heading for him in thick black white board marker, "Tech Plan"

Ben groaned.

This must be why teachers liked giving homework. It's actually quite fun to boss everyone with blank sheets of paper.

I pushed a sheet towards Ki, "Please come up with what you did for our pack in our Original Timeline, but for Night Leaf - specifically with regards to whatever tonight's raid is going to stir up."

"Does goddess want the news about Alpha Kev's betrayal and capture to blow up or be snuffed out?" Ki obligingly took out a fountain pen from the inside pocket of his jacket.

Hm… I hadn't thought that far. I looked to Wolfgang - I mean, he was supposed to be my advisor and tutor right? "What do you think?"

Wolfgang's brows knitted together and he rubbed his chin in thought.

I looked to Dad, "Do you have any preference Dad?"

Dad was wearing his thinking frown, "Yes, but this is your run, Sam. I'll leave it to you and your wolves."

"I would advise you consider your objectives." Wolfgang said.

I narrowed my eyes at him. Of course I knew that!

"Wrong answer. Think harder Wolfie." I told him, and then I slapped my hands over my mouth. I did not just say that!

I quickly shook my head and waved it off, "I didn't mean that, Wolfgang. I don't know why I said that…"

And then I had a very bad feeling.

"Oh s***." I said under my breath.

My wolves all looked up surprised.

"Goddess?" Ki looked concerned.

"That's your word, Harv." Ben said, "You're the bad influence, not me."

I took a deep breath… you know the feeling like something was going break inside of me? I looked at Fluffy, still standing there with his beautiful masked smile. It turned out it wasn't my heart after all.

"Sam?" Now Dad looked worried too.

I managed a weak smile and tried to break it to them as gently as possible, "Don't all panic now, but I think I'm going to shift."

"WHAT?"

"No s***."

"Pop."

"Wait!"

"WHAT?"

Yeah… my bad.

"The shifting dream…" Beta Lucas realized, "She's going into her first shift."

"What if her wolf and Fluffy's bond?" Ben asked.

"They might not bond since her wolf is still young." Harvey said. Although I did bond with Bell in the last timeline.

"The mating bond is one thing," Wolfgang allowed, "But should she shift now, there is an even more severe and pressing danger to her original wolf."

"What?" Dad demanded.

Ben seemed to realize though, "F***, Sam. You can't shift here. You can't overwrite your blue wolf."

Wait what? Did it work that way?

"It's not definite, but it is not a theory we can dismiss." Wolfgang seemed to think so, "Although crossing the time gates transposes our physical attributes accordingly, our memories were retained. Also…"

Wolfgang paused before he admitted, "My flame still recognizes the Princess as my master. Even though in this timeline, I had never met or fought her - and her blue wolf does not yet exist, but my current flame is the one from our Original Timeline, not the one pledged to Alpha Gunter."

It wasn't just Wolfgang's wolf. Harvey's and Ki's wolves also recognized me as their alpha - or what's left of their alpha. It was very confusing for them, but this much they knew:

"My wolf is much more powerful than the one I was used to in this life too." Harvey noted.

"For me too." Ki confessed with his gentle smile. It wasn't just the fact that we brought our original wolves over… there were other discrepancies too. Besides Wolfgang's flame being his new one that was loyal to me, Ki's mating bond was severed as if his mate had already died a year ago - which would be true if it were in our Original Timeline. This was really a blessing in disguise because the Ki in this timeline was constantly tormented, suffering from his soul mate's various affairs. But now, Ki only found himself feeling relieved and a little regretful.

"I should have killed her or at least Alpha Kev when I first found them together." He smiled, his gentle smile. If he had ended it then, Kev would not be around to trouble us. Instead, Ki had not been able to hurt his soul mate, and for the sake of peace between our two packs, resigned himself to silent suffering.

"You fool. If not for your healing powers, you would be dead." Wolfgang informed him sternly.

"That b*****!" Ben was immediately angry on Ki's behalf.

"She had always been that way." Ki smiled with an elegant shrug. Under the expensive suit and gentle smile, was a kind wolf who had suffered way, way, too much and too long with the Lorents.

But did we have to discuss this now? Like really? Now?

I raised my hand, "Urm… guys…"

Goddess, it hurt inside. I swallowed.

"Wait, stop. No. Sam you can't shift now." Ben ordered, "Get a grip, Sam!"

"You get a grip!" I yelled back and bit my lip. Ouch.

Had you ever had to "get a grip" when you desperately needed the toilet? If a wolf's gotta go, a wolf's gotta go, and this wolf's gotta go so bad, I couldn't even say it.

Why was everyone looking like I was going to die?

"Sam." Dad had come up to grip me by my shoulders, maybe he realized that it was impossible to get a grip in such a situation, "Can you hold it in?"

Not you too, Dad! Did you want me to die from shift failure?

Dad didn't let go of my shoulders, but he looked over to the others, "Get the cats, we leave now."

Wait, what?

But for some reason, everyone else was on board with the plan.

"Fluff, you better stand as far away from her as possible. We don't need any mating bonds to complicated the situation." Harvey, was very much my cool and calm beta right now, "Ki, how quickly can we get your alpha's cat over here?"

"An hour." Ki said, "If Alpha Rebel is in a good mood…"

Harvey's lips pressed in a straight line, "S***. We'd have to cut our losses here. Maybe it'll find us in our Original Timeline on its own."

"Not likely." Peony murmured. Parry shrugged. These two had very little regard for their brother's navigation ability.

"Edel's singular strength is in his power." Parry informed us.

And then Ben had a bright idea, "Or we could back track this timeline and help ourselves be ready to go before Sam shifts."

Ben had always been a genius. But what did he expect me to do in the meantime? I was seriously gonna shift now… I looked frantically for a way out - instinctively I wanted outside, now. I don't know why, but I kept thinking it would be a good idea to jump out of the window. I would have followed through too, but Dad was still holding my by the shoulders.

Grrr…

Yes, that was me. I wanted… I needed to shift.

"Hoo boy, I don't think she's gonna be able to hold it in, Alpha." Beta Lucas told my Dad worriedly.

"Sam." Dad Alpha-Commanded, "Wait."

Like hell! He was going to get me killed. I'm going to be the story of the poor wolf who died unable to complete her first shift… grrrr…

"Alright," Dad nodded. Although nothing was alright, "Let's go."

"Yes Alpha!"

And my wolves were suddenly all scrambling. Ki placed his hand on the small of my back, "This should ease the discomfort."

Don't lie. It HURTS! It was… well, okay, fine. It was okay now that Ki was glowing next to me.

I was beginning to see a pattern here: Whenever we were doing something incredibly stupid and crazy, Wolfgang would step back and frown. It was like he was struggling desperately and internally to make sense of what was happening. And why it was happening. Like didn't he just explain everything clearly? What were we doing? Why were we doing it? And how were we going to get away with this? Wolfgang was truly an academic like that. He analyzed way too much.

Harvey grabbed the papers. Fluffy grabbed Peony by its scuff. Parry had jumped into Wolfgang's arms on his own, and the watery time gate opened before us.

"Sam! Move! We need you." Ben yelled from the gate, "Get us to the right time."

"Don't boss me." I yelled back, but I gritted my teeth and stepped in. Stupid time gates, stupid first shift, stupid everything and everybody. Grrrrrr….

"Shit it hurts." I grumbled through my growling. I was seriously going to sprout fur right now… I could feel it like needles under my skin, and my fangs were already protruding.

Haha, wait till the bones start cracking up. That'll be fun.

"Is this…" Beta Lucas worried, "Is this really okay, Alpha? Maybe we should just return straight to the Undo Point?"

And abandon our mission? Well, I can't believe I'm agreeing to this, but I REALLY GOTTA GO!

"Sam, hold it." Dad said. WTH.

"Just for 30 minutes." Dad said.

My Dad wanted me to die.

"You can't let yourself shift, Sam." Ben told me.

They had all gone mad.

And to prove my point, Wolfgang was following us with that preturbed frown. If he was trying to figure out what Dad's secret genius plan was, he was wasting his time. Dad was just Dad okay?

Other girls get a first shift run, sometimes even a small party… and me? WTH were we even doing here.

"Go Sam, go!" Ben yelled at me.

I didn't really know where I was going. I just wanted to shift!

So naturally, when we got out, we were in an open field.

"Dammit!" Ben kicked the nearest scrub in his frustration, "I knew we were in the time passages for too long!"

Harvey check his phone, "Bad news guys. There's no signal."

"Don't shift, Sam!" Ben yelled.

"I want my Mama." I said, because I did.

"Sam, wait." Dad alpha commanded again. He was dead calm. I bit my lip and except the low growl, didn't say anything.

If Mum was here, this wouldn't be happening right now. I don't know how, but I'm sure it would've been better than this. But between Dad's alpha command and Ki's healing, it was just bearable.

"Anyone has any idea where we are?" Harvey asked.

"You mean WHEN we are, beta." Wolfgang pointed out, "We only traveled through time."

So whenever we were, there was no packhouse or Night Leaf buildings here just yet.

And then another time gate opened and we popped out. Even me with all my blue hair.

"The Undo Point!" Ben realized at once.

"That was lucky." Harvey sighed to himself.

"Yeah man." Beta Lucas said.

"Recalibrate. Fluff, advise." Ben ordered.

"We can stop us... Or..." Fluffy smiled, "We can guide us."

Uh oh. You know how Fluffy's plans were like... At my most desperate moment, I prayed:

I want my Mama.

I don't want to hold it any more.

Please give everyone a happier life this time.

And then everything turned dark and silent and heavy.
