Capítulo 22: Chapter 21: What No One Noticed...

"Where is Vicki?"

Dave's words resounded across the lake and following it was a deafening silence. His words sunk into his fellow classmates and soon they fell into deep thought, some looked around.

The silence went on for minutes before a voice spoke,

"Who is Vicki?"

Everyone's head instantly snapped to the source and at the end of their line of sight was none other than Seba.

Her very own boyfriend.

His words sounded innocent as if he truly didn't know who Vicki was, but his eyes...

His expression held a chilling strangeness within it.

The members of SS3 slowly turned from Seba back to Dave and began asking,

"Yes, Dave...who is Vicki?", Fawn asked with the same strange expression.

"Yeah...Dave, who is this Vicki?", Lil David asked, the same strange expression present on his face.

"You know...that sounds like a girl's name...", Eni trailed off with a frown.

Suddenly, a plump girl named Zara gasped, "Dave are you cheating on Kansola?"

At that question, Kansola flinched and turned to him. Other members of the class gasped but he wasn't looking at them.

His eyes were fixated on Seba, in fact, they were staring at eachother.

Dave had a heavy gaze like he was under pressure while Seba had the same strange expression as before.

Dave stared at him for a while before frowning, he brought a hand to his chin and said, "Yes...you're right...who is...what was her name again?"

His voice trailed off.

Seba's expression slowly turned into an eerie smile.

"See, Dave it's probably all your imagination."

Dave had a slightly distracted gaze, he held his head as his expression contorted into one of agony.

He raised his head and looked at Seba, peering deep into his eyes. As he stared deeper, he saw it.

A reflection, a reflection of the lake.

The tranquil waters of the lake churned slightly when he gazed at them.

Instantly, his eyes widened as if he had an epiphany. He lunged his head back to try to grasp the information coming to him but then a strange feeling of lethargy encroached his mind.

He tried to supress it. He tried to fight back. He was winning, he was prevailing over the haze on his mind until someone touched his shoulder.

It was Ola.

"Dave, I think you need rest.", the same eerie smile was on his face.

Dave looked at him, his expression was one of shock. He tried to back away but the strength of Ola's grip held an unnatural power. Veins popped on his hand and his smile soon grew forced, the water began to murmur and the serene lake slowly grew dark.

Dave's eyes widened as he witnessed the frightening change but before he could do anything.

Ola pushed him down, he tried to submerge him into the lake but then Dave's hand stretched out.

He then spoke in a strange voice as he were in a trance, "Ola what are you doing?"

Ola looked at him with a smile and asked, "Who's is Vicki?"

"...I don't know..."

Ola's smile grew softer as he said, "Ok..."

He let go of Dave, gave him a pat on the back and swam away.

Dave watched him leave and then looked away. From his periphery, he could tell that Seba's eyes were fixated on him as if watching his every move.

Dave lingered for a moment then slicked his hair back before swimming back to the shore and then assuming his usual pose, in a calm - almost carefree manner.

Seba and the rest of his classmates soon receded their gazes and returned back to their mundane activities.

...

I sat on the shore of the lake, observing my classmates with a calm gaze.

The lake had long grew still and clear, reverting to its tranquil nature. The distant sounds of rushing water had become nascent and my classmates had soon entered into a blissful state.

I was dressed in only a pair of beach shorts while sitting on the wet shore of the lake. My legs were in the lake but my hands were on the shore collecting mud before occasionally being washed by the advancing water.

I had long forgotten about the events that had previously occurred...

At least, that's what they thought.

What do I do?

I pondered warily but forced every cell in my body to retain composure. I knew definitely the consequences of what would happen if I stumbled.

I almost got drowned anyway...

My gaze grew darker but I didn't look at the water. I turned up to look at the hazy sun.

Now I know...I know why the sun is hazy, I know why I had been forgetting things, I know why no one remembers Vicki...

I clenched my jaw as I watched all my classmates, the answer forming in my mind.

This lake...is cursed.

I frowned slightly but then flinched a little, before slowly returning to my normal state.

That was close...

My breathing quickened slightly and my heartbeat picked up, I took a deep breath but still couldn't remain calm. Immediately, my body began to quiver, I began to panic.

The reality of the situation was encroaching my mind and I couldn't stop it. I couldn't control myself.

D-damnit...

In response to my actions, the water churned and my classmates instantly snapped their heads towards me, eerie expressions made its way to their faces.

"Dave, you need to rest.", Seba said as he started to approach me.

"Yes, Dave your not ok.", Kansola said following his lead.

"Yes, rest Dave..."

"Rest..."

"Rest...well..."

"Rest..."

"Rest in peace..."

They approached like a swarm, surrounding me from all sides.

My heart jumped in my chest and my face turned to one of true horror.

"GUYS! SNAP OUT OF IT!"

Never in my three years in Kreiss had I seen a terrifying look on the faces of my classmates. They looked like thralls, like their souls had been taken away and then replaced with something more sinister.

"NO! STAY BACK!", I raised my hands in defense as terror gripped my heart.

My classmates had bridged the gap between I and them. Reaching out their hands, they grabbed me.

"AAAAH!", I roared in apprehension, trying to free myself from their grasps. I saw my classmates all work together in unison to drown me but in my periphery I saw strange shapes.

I struggled.

But my efforts were futile.

Their grips held unnatural power and their gazes held dark determination.

I cried as I was pulled into the depths of the lake.

The last face I saw before falling into the lake was Kansola's enthralled expression.

Kansola...

Suddenly, I felt like I had entered into another realm. The area beneath the lake's surface seemed unfathomably vast, the once tranquil lake was gone, replaced by a bleak mirror.

I sunk deeper as bubbles of air, escaped my mouth and nostrils forming a trail that'll once lead to my soon to be grave. I shuddered at the thought and desperately cried out for help.

But of course, no sound escaped my lips.

I sunk deeper and deeper, my eyes slowly becoming void of life.

My hand weakly rose as I muttered one last sentence,

"Save me..."

Then, I soon grew still and settled on the bottom of the lake.
