JAMES
Those two little words hung in the air between us, so strange and foreign I wanted to reach out and touch them. Needed to hold them in my hands to see if they were real.
“Dancer had a private jet take her from here to Long Beach. She’s gone, James.”
Damn. All I could think about was how fast that was. How far away from me she already was even though we’d only been apart for half an hour or so.
“Okay,” I said. My mind reeled with possibilities. I couldn’t get to Italy before she boarded that plane. But… “Can you get me home to the airport before her plane arrives? I have to see her before she gets home because otherwise, I might never get to see her again.”
Desi closed the distance between us and put her hand on my cheek. It was freezing outside and neither of us were dressed for the cold, but her hand felt warm. I couldn’t help leaning into it.
