It all just happened like the sudden blink of an eye, the queer noises in my head were terrifyingly creepy and I placed both palms on my ear to stop myself from hearing those noises, like I was being called by some dark spirit and suddenly, the noise stopped.
My tired eyes slowly flicker open, waking up from a terrible slumber, my vision was a blur making it hard to study where I was at the moment. After several blinking, my vision became vivid once again and I forced myself to sit upright. I winced at the sudden headache which struck me like my head was being continuously banged against a hard rock, thumping painfully. It took a lot of biting on my lower lip to stop me from screaming out.
"What is happening? and where in the heavens name am I?"
I puzzledly studied the place. It was dark and hollow with only the fireflies that lurked in the cave adding a natural warm glow to the place. I slowly got to my feet and lazily walked around, trying to force my brain cells to recall what happened, how did I end up here? my brain was like a broken puzzle shattered in pieces except I couldn't fix the pieces together.
Why can't I remember who I am and how did I end up falling asleep in a cave??
Just thinking about it brought me nothing but headaches and I headed towards the cave's exit, hoping to find my way and get out of this creepy cave.
To my surprise, there was a man who stood at the exit making me stop at my tracks, he had his back turned towards me and his long dark hair glistened from the sunlight that penetrated from the caves entrance, the wind fluttering his loosed sleeves as he stared out, oblivious to my presence.
Arching my brows in suspicion, I curiously wondered who he was, could he be the one who brought me here?
I wanted to retreat immediately, taking a step back but accidentally stepped on a twig causing it to snap. I gasped in fear at the quick sound, equally knowing I'd be caught. He seemed to have heard it snap because he was turning around to look at me. It was too late to hide now so I remained where I was, frozen.
The face that came in view left me awed and when I locked eyes with him, I stumbled on my feet.
He looked ravishing in all ways like an angel on earth, his mien were in absolute concinnity to each other, his facial expressions looked delicate giving that androgynous look which was clearly uncommon to most people, like those from a fairy tale leaving me blinking in disbelief.
His mountain peak cheekbones appeared high and chiseled into shape, more like they were paired and sculpted to sublimity. His dark crystal eyes were equally spellbinding, enough to entice those who dared stare for too long.
He looked elegant and out of the ordinary in his white exquisite robe that shunned with grace as the sun casted it's warm glow over him. His aura seemed calm but at the same time intimidating, he radiated energy and brio. In his case, handsome was an understatement.
But why would someone like him be in a place like this?
"You're awake." the way he sounded made me wonder if I've been here for more than a night, that wasn't the point at this moment.
"Who....who are you?" I asked but he only let out his hand for me which certainly doesn't answer my question. I flashed him a questionable gaze in return.
"Come with me and find out for yourself." he cooly said to me while I cautiously eyed him. I pursed my lips and hesitated for a while staring at his proffered hand_ I might not know him but for some unknown reason, I felt he was trustworthy and even if I didn't feel it, not like I have any other choice, I really wanted to get out of this cave so I hesitantly walked up to him, placing my hand in his.
With just a wave of his arm, we were both suddenly enveloped in a dazzling white light and before I realized it, we were walking down the path of an unknown sect, I glanced up at him and like he read my thoughts, he replied.
"This is Mount Xuandu, your home." he articulated sedately and I blinked at him, still flabbergasted by it all, my home? I wearily gazed at the people who walked by and everyone stopped doing whatever they did at the sight of me, staring wide eyed at me like I grew horns on my head or I was someone who turned into a ghost, some passing me distasteful looks like I was a forbidden being. I avoided eye contact with them and stayed close to the one person who brought me here. If this was actually my home, why was everyone so shocked to see me, I was found in a cave, did they all think I was dead? so many questions troubling my mind but the handsome stranger squeezed my delicate hands, trying to comfort me.
"Ignore them, don't let them intrude your mind with their looks." he said which seemed to ease me down a bit and I followed him all through, he took me to the peak of Mount Xuandu and there was hardly people around this part like when we were coming earlier, in front of us was a hall which I assumed to be his hall.
"You'll be staying with me from now on." he stated and to my own surprise, I didn't find it suspicious or weird and I only nodded in approval of his words.
He opened the gate and we stepped into the threshold, taking me further past the bridge but I suddenly halted, he should at least know I don't remember who I am anymore.
"Can I ask you something?" my voice came out more like a whisper and I was glad he heard it, he also stopped, turning to look at me.
"What?"
"Who am I?" I finally found the courage to ask since he's the one who brought me here, surely he must know who I am. "I don't remember who I am and I don't recall a thing of what happened to me, the only thing I remember is waking up at that cave, why was I there?" I was asking way too many questions but I couldn't help it, the fact I don't remember myself was the most terrifying, I don't even know how or what I look like at this moment.
He didn't look as surprised as I expected him to.
"You don't remember who you are?" he asked and I nodded in reply, I really don't remember a single thing.
"Let's go inside, I'll explain it all to you."
Since I was in need of answers, I gladly followed him in, walking past the tremendous hallway until he brought me to the beautiful courtyard, in front was a tea table.
We both sat down and I nervously tapped my fingers on the table, waiting for him to speak and he started.
"Since you don't remember who you are, I'll remind you, you're Shanxia." he enunciated calmly and I pondered on the name for a while.
"Shanxia?" I asked and he nodded.
"The reason you found yourself in that cave is cause you suffered a fatal injury which would have easily taken your life but somehow your soul was saved which is why you're back here." he explained but his earlier words left me stunned.
I was supposed to be dead?!
He read out my expression and chuckled lightly. "Don't worry about it, you're fine now."
"So, how long have I been at the cave then?"
"Ten years to be exact."
My eyes widened in disbelief at his words, was he trying to tell me I've been in that cave, in a coma for ten years?!
"This is clearly too much for you to take in so just settle with that for the meantime, go and get some rest."
My head throbbed painfully and I guess he was right about that, I really needed to rest and freshen up too.
But my mind always betrayed me as I was absent minded all through his escort to my chamber's. If my soul was actually retrieved, how come it took me ten years to regain myself or was it actually my soul that took ten years to get retrieved??
