Capítulo 23: [23] Is That A Fucking DMC Reference?

Aiden shook off the foul-smelling mixture of blood and slime from Durandal, a villainous smirk gracing his handsome face. "Okay, who's up next?"

"Grrr..."

The only response was the shrill and unpleasant roar of the goblin horde, charging more ferociously than ever.

The icy blue hues of Aiden's eyes reflected the grotesque faces of the goblins. With his hands gripping the sword and his left leg stepping forward into a bow stance, he propelled his entire body forward with force, swinging Durandal in a forty-five-degree angle from bottom to top toward the oncoming goblin horde.

Though Aiden had no knowledge of combat techniques, his Inborn Divine Strength endowed him with unparalleled brute force. Coupled with his physical prowess, he surpassed the goblins in speed, reaction time, and accuracy by far.

The saying "great strength leads to unexpected miracles" rang true for him. With his immense power and the unparalleled sharpness of Durandal, he unconsciously employed the eight-slash technique. Though lacking any form, each swing of his sword, be it horizontal, diagonal, or thrusting, could claim the life of a goblin.

The golden gleam of his sword flashed in the corridors of the dungeon's second floor. Ignoring the stench emanating from the liquid splattered on himself and the foul odor of the goblins, Aiden had no more reservations.

With each swing of his sword, he felt a visceral thrill as if slicing through flesh. Each strike caused blood to bloom, and the sensation of wanton monster-slaying released a bit of the pent-up combat desire within Aiden.

Though this couldn't be considered a battle, merely a slaughter, akin to a general ruthlessly massacring foot soldiers in a certain games, this wholesale slaughter still served a purpose.

For Aiden, this one-sided unrivaled slaughter was somewhat beneficial. Though not as satisfying as a evenly matched duel, it at least allowed him to overcome his inhibitions.

After all, dungeon exploration wasn't just a dangerous activity; it was also grueling, exhausting, and dirty work.

For in the dungeon, only those who reached the level of Ottar could swagger freely in the mid to upper layers. Otherwise, even formidable warriors like the Sword Princess risked having their armor shattered, revealing more than just their battle prowess.

So, whether it's the dashing swordsman in a purple coat, the stylish and handsome Dante with his long coat and big sword, or the cold and stern loner resembling Vergil, until one becomes powerful enough, it's all just wishful thinking.

True warrior-type adventurers at the bottom level must not only endure the threat to their lives posed by monsters but also tolerate the stench, bodily fluids, and corrosive attacks emanating from these creatures. Fighting while getting dirty and smelly all over becomes commonplace, especially for beginners.

Aside from abandoning unnecessary reservations, Aiden gradually learned some sword techniques through continuous monster-slaying.

When facing a large-scale enemy attack, the angle, timing, and force of the sword strikes all require skill. Additionally, countering the enemy's fierce thrusts, dealing with their attacks from multiple directions, or handling their diversionary tactics all demand proper strategy.

With the improvement of his basic skills, the most tangible result was the increasing efficiency of Aiden's monster-slaying. From initially relying solely on brute force to gradually controlling his strength, he aimed to achieve one-hit kills without dismembering the goblins.

Watching the seemingly endless horde of goblins, Aiden, who no longer cared about the foul smell on himself, showed a cold smile. "You need more training!"

Just as Aiden was about to finish off the second wave of goblins, the walls on both sides boiled like hot water, and goblins kept emerging from them, launching a relentless Kamikaze Assault toward Aiden, the Goblin Slayer.

Aiden suddenly found himself submerged in a sea of goblins.

"What the hell? I just teased them a bit. How come they keep coming endlessly? This has truly become an unrivaled slaughter. So, where's my frenzy?" Faced with this situation, Aiden didn't panic. Slaying monsters could be addictive.

Aiden chanted a playful reference to a certain iconic game song. He was getting into it. Abandoning his reservations and ignoring the stench, Aiden, a devoted fan of Koei Tecmo's series, quickly immersed himself in the first-person view of slaughter.

As Aiden continued his relentless slaughter, the blood and slime gushed from the goblins at a rate that even surpassed the dungeon's absorption capacity.

The blood and slime that the dungeon hadn't yet absorbed coagulated into a thick layer of plasma, resembling red paint smeared across the walls and floor. Under the faint light emitted by the crystals, the once deep blue corridors of the dungeon were harshly dyed with an ominous shade of blood-red.

Having slain all the goblins before him, although he didn't feel the slightest hint of fatigue, Aiden still let out a slight sigh of relief. Leaning on Durandal, he began to tally the goblin loot.

At that moment, an inexplicable chill crept up Aiden's back, accompanied by faint whistling sounds. Without hesitation, he turned around, controlled his force, and thrust his sword!

The dark-red blade effortlessly pierced through the right chest of the goblin attempting a silent ambush. As the foul-smelling blood mixed with slime oozed from the goblin's chest, Aiden slightly tilted his head to dodge the wooden club thrown by the goblin, watching with interest as it struggled in its dying throes.

"Your time has come. Allow me to end your suffering mercifully." With a forceful pull of his right hand, another goblin was cleaved in two.

Unconcerned by the stench of the goblin's blood splattering onto him, Aiden didn't sheath his sword. Instead, he leaned Durandal against the wall and took out a small pouch from his bag.

Despite experiencing the uncomfortable yet exhilarating slaughter, Aiden, as a newbie gourmet lover, hadn't forgotten about the glowing mushrooms ahead.

He briskly walked through the scene of the massive black auction, beginning to gather the mushrooms while singing a song about a country girl picking mushrooms.
