Capítulo 32: Cultivation of the Immortal in Black | Pt.2

Tora could feel the shift in the atmosphere the moment she was near the housings. She felt dizzy from the abundance of spiritual qi1 gathered in this area. Her body swayed slightly, nearly stumbling when a pair of hands grabbed hold of her.

"Shidi1." White hair dangled beside her face, tickling it. His hands steadied her, making sure she was standing straight. "It seems you're sensitive to spiritual qi. Your meridians have been opened, but you've never practiced gathering qi."

The fuck does that mean?

"Shixiong..."

"I'll ask Shizun for permission to let you stay with me. I'll help you regulate your inner and outer qi, this should reduce the dizziness." Li Weisheng's serious expressions were slightly comical. Tora guessed that he was around 13 or 14 in age.

She glanced at Hao Ran, taking note of his height and air of maturity unique to teenagers. He's probably 15 or 16.

He seemed to sense her gaze and whipped his head over. "A-Sheng Shidi and A-Yi Shidi, what is going on?"

"Shidi has a sensitive constitution to qi. Since Shizun's abode is a few paces away, naturally there is an overabundance of spiritual qi in the area."

"I will go and ask Shizun for guidance."

"Ah...Shixiong, I was planning to ask—"

"It's good that you care for your Shidi." The sudden appearance of their Shizun had spooked everyone.

The Tea Ceremony had ended quickly when an urgent message was delivered. Wei Xianjun had dismissed everyone, telling them to head to their rooms for the day.

Tora felt a sudden calmness when his large hand grabbed her shoulder. The dizziness had dissipated, leaving her body to feel light like she had felt after her injuries healed.

"Shizun!" All four of the children greeted their Master at the same time.

"Shizun—" Tora quickly followed but was cut off before she finished her bow.

"For the time being, Yi-er will stay with me."

What the—?

"Shi—" Li Weisheng was about to speak up when the cold gaze of his Master shut him up.

"Follow me." Tora couldn't do anything other than follow his large stride.

The smell of nature drifted into her nose. Tora welcomed the pleasantry of the flowery fragrant and calming sandalwood.

I never thought I'd miss being able to smell...

'If you get Wei Ziyang under your spell, you could easily do nothing.'

Wei Ziyang?

'Wei Xianjun, your Shizun's real name.'

Tora felt odd in her heart. She wasn't sure why Asier was suddenly so keen on helping her. Was it because he felt sorry? She would never know.

So this person is Wei Ziyang.

Wei Ziyang seemed to have noticed the note. His eyes glance at her, squinting in contemplation.

Don't tell me...?

The incarnation of Creation? Like Percy, Liam, and Vick?

"It's odd. I sense something strong from you, but I'm unsure what." He shifted his gaze away and continued walking.

Maybe not.

A beautifully kept garden was situated between the house and a waterfall. A spring bath, rich with spiritual qi, accompanied the waterfall. The qi was overwhelming.

"Do you know of your constitution?" Her confusion was enough to answer his question. "It's rare for someone to be born with a Heavenly Constitution. If not cultivated correctly, you will die."

Wei Ziyang was casual in his explanations, leaving Tora dumbfounded.

"Your body naturally absorbs the qi around you. Even now, your tiny body is overflowing." He patted her head, taking away the warmth and dizziness she felt. "Someone like you, if not careful, will be ruined by others."

Tora wasn't sure what he meant. The words he spoke were ambiguous and up for interpretation. Even with the knowledge from the novel, she still found it hard to adjust to this world.

"Go and rest. You will join me in the spring bath after dinner."

Ew.

"Thank you, Shizun." Wei Ziyang disappeared again, leaving her all alone in the garden.

The bedroom was filled with beautiful craftsmanship, the polar opposite of her room in the Jing Clan.

Give me the novel. I want to reread it.

'What are you up to?'

I need to confirm something.

Her tiny hands continuously flipped through the pages, only pausing at the page she sought.

His golden whip glimmered amongst the red of his enemies. His pristine white clothes remained untouched by the filth that pooled at his feet.

The darkened sky opened up with lights beyond the horizon. The heaven's halo accompanied his every movement, elevating his deity status.

Li Weisheng, in his dark garment, watched his formal Shizun intently. His eyes glistened with ire at the death of his subordinates, vowing to rip apart the immortal that feigned goodness.

"You seem anxious, Demon Lord," Spoke Wei Ziyang calmly. His whip thrashes against the approaching enemies, disintegrating their souls, and dooming them to eternal death.

"Shizun has transcended the realm of mortals. You should live quietly as a deity, instead of wasting your breath on this dying world." Through gritted teeth, Li Weisheng mocked his formal Master.

"I don't remember teaching you to be a coward. Enough hiding behind your dying men, Li Weisheng."

"You didn't teach me anything."

The battle between Heaven's favorite son and Earth's favorite child had begun.

Tora wasn't entirely sure what 'deity' meant in this world. A godly being, but not A GOD.

'Think demi-gods. Not entirely mortal, but not a god either.'

How does one fight against a demi-god? This is a losing battle for me.

'Make Wei Ziyang fight for you.'

Easier said than done.

'He already has a thing for you.'

"I'm 10..."

'Age doesn't mean a thing in this world.'

Tora was so focused on cussing Asier out in her heart that she failed to notice the appearance of someone.

"10 is quite young." She scrambled off the bed, nearly falling onto the hardwood floors. "I brought some food. Come and eat." Wei Ziyang's lips curved slightly in laughter. He swept his hand, calling forth a table and cushion for seating.

Tora wanted to refuse, but her stomach thought otherwise. The loud growling caused her ears to turn red from embarrassment. The delicious smell of steamed buns and skewered meat assaulted her nose. Her mouth watered at the sight of the first meal she would have since arriving.

"Sit." He sat down, gesturing for her to sit beside him. "I will teach you how to cultivate qi so you know how to regulate it properly."

"Thanking Shizun." She mimicked the wordings she read in the novel. The speech patterns and the stylized wordings were what Tora found most interesting in the book.

Wei Ziyang's gaze never left her. His beautiful fingers held the chopsticks tightly, feeding Tora piece after piece, stopping only when she finished everything.

"You will join me in the spring bath for your first lesson." With a swipe of his hand, the table disappeared. He led her to the spring bath, slowly entering, fully clothes.

Tora followed his example, entering the warm water that rose to her chin. The heat of the water made her blush. Her reddened skin gave off a weird allure unique to her constitution.

He stepped in close, sending waves of warmth, nearly gagging her. The water swayed and attempted to enter her mouth and nose.

Am I going to die drowning because of my height?

"Focus." His stern command brought her out of her stupor. She felt dazed, and her mind was muddied from the large amounts of qi. "A person's body has hundreds of acupoints. Within those acupoints lie impurities that need to be cleansed. I will guide you through it."

Tora returned to the vision from before. At the tip of her head was a golden light that escaped his palms. The golden light lingered for a moment, allowing her to view the different streaks of light and the dark orbs that sat on them.

The gold attacked the dark, eating it up and replacing it with a bright blue. "This is how you cleanse it. Your acupoints need to be clear of impurities, this will allow a better flow of qi and quicken your cultivation process."

Tora followed his example, her blue cleansing the next acupoint. With each impurity gone, her body felt lighter. The impurities leaked through her pores, dying the water black.

Tora nearly collapsed from exhaustion by the time they finished.

"Good. And now for the regulation of qi." Tora wanted to curse him for forcing her to continue despite her faintness. "Close your eyes and open your senses. The world around you is filled with spiritual qi. Guide them inside and condense them within your meridians."

The world within the dark void of her closed eyes glowed. The tiny orbs of qi floated around her, making shapes of the rocks, grass, and water. Tora reached for them, pulling them in gently. She felt the air around her swirl.

"Replace your blood and bones with qi. Absorb them deep into your soul and try to form a golden core. Your Heavenly Constitution will allow you a faster rate of growth."

Tora opened her eyes, feeling rejuvenated. This is similar to the crystal balls.

"From today onwards, you will enter Closed-Door Cultivation. I will see you in 10 years."

Before Tora could replay, she was whisked away into a dark cave.

"I should just join the protagonist in killing Wei Ziyang. That fucking asshole!" It had been nine years since she was forced in here.

Every day, she cursed for his death. The cave was bare of necessities, no food, water, clothing, or bedding. Sharp rocks and stones scrapped her skin and injured her bones.

He fed her delicious food before throwing her in here to starve. Tora felt a slight kinship towards the protagonist for the first time since leaving her reality.

"Regardless of your defection to the unorthodox route, that is your Shizun! WHERE IS YOUR FILIAL PIETY!? WRETCHED, DISGRACE OF OUR SOCIETY!"

The screaming of his Shixiong echoed in the empty throne room. His eyes merely stared in pity at the chained individual.

"Hao Ran Shixiong..." His quiet and grim voice silenced the other. "It seems you don't know our Shizun well enough."

"WHAT ARE YOU SAYING!? LET ME GO AND FIGHT ME LIKE A MAN!"

"Let me ask you this." He stood up from his seat and slowly walked towards him. His eyes glowed a dangerous red and his white hair shimmered like snow. "How do you think our Shimei and Shidi died?"

"What—!?"

"Did you honestly think a divine beast would be strolling around on Mount Duanqi1?"

"..." Hao Ran was speechless for the first time since the war happened. The red eyes had hypnotic properties, sucking him in with their demonic allure.

"Shizun has never viewed us as his disciples. He views all life as a means to gain and throws the useless away once it becomes waste." His long nails dug into Hao Ran's chin, extracting blood into his own. "Wei Ziyang is nothing but a pig under my feet. He and those orthodox bastards deserve death!"

"Is that so?" Li Weisheng had no time to react—the glare of a golden blade sliced through his neck.

That marked the end of his third regression in the long cycle of deaths to come.

Li Weisheng could not beat Wei Ziyang.

'The protagonist seems interesting this time around, right?'

"No, the protagonist is an idiot who took 10s of regressions to finally win against his first enemy."

'...'

"Emphasis on HIS FIRST enemy. We get a glimpse of his other enemies, but the story ends a little after Wei Ziyang's death. This story is literally about a guy and his maybe-gay obsession with his Master, but thinks he's straight and dates the female lead."

'...'

"Everything he does is motivated by the sole fact of wanting his Shizun's attention."

'Maybe he wanted yours and this is a fight between two jealous people. After all, Jing Yi started the feud.'

"Wha—!? You know what? Let's agree to disagree." Although she said that, Asier's version had some truth to it. At least the part where Jing Yi started this abomination of regressions. Li Weisheng wouldn't have become a demonic cultivator and Wei Ziyang wouldn't have killed him.

After entering the cave, Tora had four days to gather qi and transform her blood and bones before she starved. When her body can create inner qi, she can use it to sustain her hunger for a short while.

Tora reread the novel multiple times, studying the cultivation methods, and trying to replicate them.

Her buttocks ached and her legs tingled from sitting in one position. She had to fight against her basic wants and needs, even when her body felt like it was about to combust, she pushed forward.

The qi that gathered in the cave was unique and isolated. It was heavy and thick, almost drowning her in it.

'You should be careful not to overuse your inner qi.'

"I'd rather die of qi depletion than lick this disgusting cave."

She had tried and failed to leave the cave. It was tightly sealed, isolating the outside from the world within this cave.

"Must be a spell of some sort."

Asier's statement early was valid. I could have died a long time ago...

The inner qi was connected to your life force. It takes an average cultivator 40 years to replenish a third of their qi pool.

The Heavenly Constitution of this body is the reason I'm alive.

Jing Yi was capable of turning outer qi into inner qi. He could pull from his surroundings and use them to replenish his soul. Jing Yi was like a black void, an infinite catering of qi.

It wasn't until his seventh regression that Li Weisheng learned of Jing Yi's true importance.

"The Heavenly Constitution."

He needed Jing Yi.

Catering? Tora shivered at that word. She had her guesses, but now was not the time to delve into them.

She sat cross-legged with her hands above her lower abdomen, one hand hovering above the other, as the essence of the world swirled between them.

She was at the last stage of her Golden Core, a pinch away from entering Nascent Soul.

  1. vital energy that exists within all things. (Think of the concept of mother nature and the belief that all things have a spirit, similarly, qi is considered to be present in all things, and can be gathered to further improve one's vitality)
  2. Shidi means junior brother of the same sect or master. Shimei is junior sister of the same sect or master. These terms are used for those who are in the same generation of training as you.
  3. Duanqi means the severing of qi. In this case, I chose this name to represent a dead mountain with properties that sever your spiritual connection with qi.
