Nyx stared at Beth, who seemed unable to find her voice. The silence between them grew so thick that it felt like it could be sliced.
Though Nyx didn't mind the quiet, she knew she had to break it so that Beth could explain why she was here and resolve whatever issue lingered.
"Are you planning to just sit there staring at me all day, Beth?" Nyx asked. Beth blushed, shaking her head. "Well, then?"
"I… I came to apologize," Beth finally said, gripping her skirt. "You were right, and I'm sorry. I don't know what came over me, but I hurt you, and I'm really sorry."
Nyx blinked, surprised by her words. But something caught her attention. "You don't know what came over you?" she asked. It was a common phrase, but to Nyx, it hinted at something deeper.
