Capítulo 1: Crab Fishing

I've always loved watching this documentary, so I decided to write a fanfiction about it. I hope you like it!

---------------------

A young man with blue eyes was sitting in a bar in Dutch Harbor enjoying his drink and lost in thought.

"Hey, handsome, what brings you to these parts?" a pretty woman behind the bar, who was serving the handsome young man his beer, asked.

Coming back to reality, he replied. "I was told that there's a lot of money in crab fishing in these parts, so I decided to try my luck."

"Oh yes, fishing, people make a lot of money," she agreed. "But the risk is also very high, many die at sea or because of it," she said.

"I've heard about the danger, but I want to risk it," he smiled as he sipped his beer.

"Good luck, pretty boy," the woman laughed and walked away to serve other customers.

Christian arrived in the Bering Sea region a few days ago.

He literally woke up in a new body, one that wasn't his, but shared the same name.

Like a kind of possession, he began to remember everything this body had ever lived through.

25 years of life and it was all poured into his brain in one night.

He hadn't had parents since he was 12, when he lost them in a boating accident.

Christian's original father was a fishing enthusiast and made many trips with the family to the high seas, but one day an accident occurred when the boat they were on was caught in a storm and only Christian survived.

He survived and inherited his parents' estate, a few hundred million dollars from the savings his father had managed to build up during his life as a shareholder in large companies.

Enough to live a good life until his death, but the original Christian never forgot the memory of the boating accident on that stormy sea. He wanted to take a chance and challenge the sea to clear his mind of that traumatic day.

However, one night in the hotel where he was staying, he suffered a heart attack and passed away.

Giving the opportunity for the other Christian to now occupy his body.

But now, as well as being in another body. Something else was happening: Christian could see a transparent Earth globe floating in front of him.

The amazing thing was that the globe listed many things, such as places, people, animals and much more.

For example, the globe showed the Bering Sea and what was at the bottom of it.

It showed where the animals were and that certainly included the places where the crab biomasses were located.

As far as Christian knew, crabs were more valuable than gold in this region.

Around here, everything was summed up by fishing and it was early October, so many boats were ready for king crabbing.

And visible to Christian were the places where these creatures were, it was an opportunity he wouldn't pass up.

However, as Cristian had previously wanted to be a deckhand, he didn't have the idea of buying a boat or being a partner in one.

Owning a boat would bring in much more income, Chris thought.

However, the season was about to start and getting a boat with a fishing licence would be a difficult quest.

"Hey, do you know anyone who wants a partner on a boat?" he asked the woman at the bar.

The woman appeared to be around 30 or a little older, very pretty and with a charming smile.

The kind of woman Christian would like to have in his bed.

"Partnership? I thought you just wanted to be a deckhand," she asked.

"I want to own a boat now, it should pay more," he said as he smiled.

"I think so too," she smiled at Christian's joke.

"But since the season is about to start, I don't think I'll be able to do it in time," he sighed. "So the solution is to find someone to partner up with," he added.

"Partner? Let me think for a moment," she said as she tried to remember something.

"Oh! I think there's a boat for you," she remembered. "In recent years the captain of the boat hasn't done very well, so he's short of capital. I think it should be the type you're looking for."

"What's the name of the boat?" he asked

"If I remember correctly, it's called the Queen of the Oceans," she said.

"It looks like the queen has lost her crown," he laughed.

"Yes, but maybe you'll find it and give it back to her," she laughed at his joke.

"That's my goal," he said. "But there's something else that's more important," he said seriously.

"And what would that be?" she asked curiously.

"What time do you get off work?" he said flirtatiously.

"Oh, around 8pm, if you want to wait I can show you the city," she told him.

"I'd be honoured, I'll be waiting for you," he replied, agreeing to wait. "Christian, but you can call me Chris," he introduced himself.

"Sure Chris, I'm Mendy, nice to meet you," she also introduced herself.

*****

In the morning Cristian woke up still drowsy and felt the woman from the pub lying naked next to him on the bed.

She had blonde hair and a very sexy body.

After waiting for her to finish, the two of them went out to a few places in the small town and ended up at the hotel, where they had a very restless night.

"Good morning," she said when she woke up and saw the handsome man she had spent the night with.

The covers came down and revealed her furry body once again.

"Good morning," he also said.

"It was a fun evening," she smiled seductively.

"Yes, a lot of fun," he said as he looked at his night companion's body.

"Shall we do it again?" she asked.

"Whenever you wish," he replied positively.

She moved on the bed and was now sitting on his lap again, which made Christian's body react once more.

They'd had a busy morning too.

Now Christian, after his morning activities with Mendy, was heading towards the boat he was interested in doing business with.

As he approached, he saw that the boat was quite large, around 45 metres long, certainly not a small boat.

How he couldn't make a profit from fishing was beyond him.

Standing next to the boat was a man, shorter than Chris and more bearded too.

"Hello," Cris called out to the man.

The man turned round when he was called. "Hello, Chris, isn't it? You called earlier," the man said.

Chris had called earlier to make an appointment to meet the man.

"I'm John, captain of the Queen of the Oceans," he introduced himself.

"Hello John, I'm Cris as I said on the phone, I'd like to propose a deal regarding the fishing and the boat," Chris announced why he was there.

"Yes, I was wondering. What do you have in mind?" John asked, having already been contacted by other potential investors who knew about his current situation.

"Half, I want half of the boat and the fishing company," Chris got straight to the point.

John was deep in thought because the last fishing season had been a failure.

It barely made enough money to pay for the ship's expenses and crew.

Of the five crew members he had, there were now only two left and the rest went fishing on other boats for better wages.

He didn't have enough money to keep his boat going for the whole season.

"Anything else on your mind?" John asked with interest.

"Yes, you'll still be the captain, but I'll also be on the boat to supervise a few things," Chris explained.

John didn't want to sell half of his precious ship, but he had no choice but to sell or not fish this season.

And not fishing was the same as losing his ship.

"What about values?" John asked.

"What do you think it's worth?" Chris returned the question.

"Um... around 1.5 million," he said, a considerable amount, which he thought was fair for half of his fishing vessel.

"1.5 million? Okay deal, how do you want to proceed?" Chris agreed, because money wasn't a problem for him at the moment.

"You don't have a problem with the price?" John asked, a little surprised at Chris's quick acceptance.

"No problem, it's in line with the price I researched and set," Chris replied.

"Do you want to go to the bank?" Chris asked.

"Yes, we can go," agreed John.

"What do we need to prepare to go to sea?" Chris asked as they both headed for the cars.

"We need two or three more sailors. At least one of them to be an engineer, buy supplies for the voyage and spare fuel," John explained about the situation the boat was in and what was needed for them to start their fishing operation at sea.

"Got it... after the money has been transferred to the bank, I want to sort out everything that's missing so we can start fishing straight away," Chris commented to Captain John.

John also had the same thought, now that he had monetary capital he also wanted to go to sea as soon as possible, "Sure, that's fine with me," he agreed.

The Ocean Queen already had two sailors.

Jack, a tall man of 42, was an experienced crab fisherman. He had been fishing under John's command for many years.

And Smith, a young man of 20 who was Jack's son. He had decided to follow in his father's footsteps in crab fishing for the last year. He still doesn't have much experience, but he makes up for it with effort and dedication.

"I'm going to make some calls and see if I can find anyone available to join the boat," John said as he rummaged through his phone contacts.

"OK, I'll meet you at the bank," Chris got into his car and headed for the bank.

John did the same when he got into his truck.

At the bank everything went smoothly, John and Chris signed a contract for the sale of half the boat to Chris.

The money was transferred to John and now they were closer to leaving the harbour and starting their fishing trip.

"I hope that in a couple of days everything will be ready for us to go to sea," commented John, who was now happy again to be able to go crabbing.

"I hope so too," Chris agreed. "Call me when everything's ready," he said.

"Sure," replied John.

Cris got into his car and drove off to the same pub as last night.

He had a few thoughts to ponder.

One of them was how he would get John to go to the areas with the crabs was a mystery.

He couldn't just say that he knew the place was full of crabs, because John wouldn't believe any speculation without proof.

But Chris would soon have a solution, he thought.

He would see Mendy again today, the woman really was something else.

She had many qualities that she had shown him last night.

Chris had never been looking for a relationship, but spending time with Mendy was no bad thing.

Since the woman also had the same thoughts.

Dutch Harbor is a relatively small place and finding another woman like her was no easy task.

Considering how he caught her eye, not seizing the moment was a mistake.

"Hello Mendy," he greeted her as he reached the bar and sat down at the counter, now taking in the beautiful sight of the hot, sexy blonde.

Mendy always attracted the attention of many men who came to the bar, but she was also selective, she wouldn't be available to just any fisherman.

Chris caught her eye because of his handsome physique and above-average face.

In addition to his beautiful blue eyes that were reminiscent of the vast ocean.

He was well-off too, a perfect model of the man she was looking for.

At 32 and never married, many members of Mendy's family pestered her about it, but for Mendy, she was still at an age when she could only appreciate good company and she was doing that with Chris.

"Hello, handsome boy," she smiled gently. "How did it go with the boat?" she asked curious about what had happened in Cris's negotiation with John.

"Fortunately it all worked out, I've got half a boat now," he replied. "Now I'm waiting for John to make the arrangements so we can go fishing," he added.

"Half? Wow, that's great," I said happily. "I'll miss you when you leave," she feigned a tear.

"Will I? How about relieving that longing while I'm still here?" he asked her.

"Sure, I'll leave at the same time as yesterday," she agreed.

"What's your fishing quota going to be?" she asked.

"It's going to be 75 tonnes, we're behind the other boats that are already at sea, but I think we'll manage," Chris replied as he recalled the conversation he'd had with John about the fishing they'd be doing.

"A little less than the big boats that have already left, I think you'll be successful," she said.

"May your words be sacred, my fair lady," he agreed as he took the opportunity to flirt a little with Mendy.

There was an age difference between the two, but for either Mendy or Chris, that wasn't a relevant point.

The attraction was mutual, that was the most important thing.

Chris spent the rest of the morning talking to Mendy when he had the chance and using his global map more to familiarise himself with him.

The global map was a very good bug, as it showed everything to him like a satellite with x-ray vision.

He could see the gold, silver and even diamond mines that had not yet been discovered.

In the future he would have many opportunities, but right now his focus was on crabs.
