Capítulo 32: Chapter Thirty-One: Developments and Disputes

"Who did it?"

Orion rolled his eyes at his sister's question, turning towards the other side of the bed to ensure she couldn't see his pained expression.

"I told you, Lia, it was no one. I just fell."

This time it was the older Black sibling who rolled her eyes as she moved into her brother's line of sight, ensuring he couldn't evade her steel-like gaze.

"I will interrogate every single Hogwarts boy I know until I get an answer, Rio."

She paused, her expression softening as Cordelia noticed her brother's terrified gaze.

For a moment Cordelia simply looked around the Hospital Wing, taking heed of the nurse's curious gaze as she attended to a French girl's twisted ankle. That was the second time Cordelia rolled her eyes that evening, taking pleasure in mutedly pulling the curtains around her brother's hospital bed and casting a Muffiliato.

"Do not lie to me."

Orion sighed, leaning his head against the pillows as his grey eyes finally met her ocean blue.

"What are you going to do? Curse him so he can curse me harder?"

Cordelia opened her mouth to reply but was cut off as he continued.

"Or perhaps you'll have your usual banter resulting in either of you walking away and another person paying the price."

She would never have shown it had the person before her been anyone except for Orion, but his words got to Cordelia. They got to her more than anything else would.

It was one thing for Riddle to take pleasure in tormenting her mentally, but it was another to take out his anger on her brother. Cordelia was neither aware nor willing to be aware of what exactly Orion had got himself into when he pledged himself to Tom, but she wouldn't let the egoistical brat get away with hurting the one person Cordelia truly cared about.

Especially when his anger was misdirected, being a product of her conversation with Dumbledore.

A sigh left her lips as Cordelia leaned forward, allowing her raven hair to form a curtain around her as she ruffled Orion's hair and sent him a serious gaze.

"I'm going to have a chat with Riddle. And you are not to see him until after the first task. Do you understand?"

Orion nodded, too tired to argue with her.

"Good."

A huff left her form as Cordelia rose from the bed, pulling the sheets over Orion's frame as she bid the nurse goodbye and walked towards the Hogwarts boys' dorms.

"Riddle!"

Cordelia's angry call resounded across the palace's library as she made her way down the main aisle, ignoring the looks of intrigue and annoyance sent her way. The bookworm was beyond livid as she clutched her wand in her right palm, blue eyes wildly dashing around the premises to try and spot a sliver of the black and green Slytherin robes he oh so loved to wear.

At that moment she didn't care about the first years sending her terrified looks and the bookworms sending her exasperated looks. Cordelia paid no heed to anyone around her, only pausing to glare at the elderly French librarian as she almost got out of her seat.

The older woman chose wisely as she simply gulped and turned back to her desk, allowing Cordelia to tear the library apart with her gaze as she searched the aisles for the familiar egoistical prat.

Luckily, Lia didn't have to go too far as Riddle finally made an appearance.

"Looking for me?"

His sickly-sweet tone and mocking grin made Cordelia almost growl as she spun to the side, facing the tyrant leaning against a gold-trimmed bookshelf.

For once Cordelia didn't bother replying to his sarcasm, choosing to cut to the chase rather than engaging in their usual banter. She didn't bother cussing him out or trying to explain things, the witch was wise enough to know if he wanted to, Tom would have understood the first time.

Thus she didn't bother with the sentiment or the sarcasm, choosing to instead walk forward and shove him up against the very shelf he lent against, jabbing her wand right on his jugular.

"If you ever touch my brother again, I swear on Merlin I'll rip you apart."

Her voice was ice and touch fire, making Tom return her glare as he whipped out his own wand and stabbed it into her abdomen.

"What transpires between Orion and I need not concern you."

Cordelia squinted her gaze at his words, digging her wand further into the skin of his neck.

"If Orion chooses to blindly follow you, so be it. But I will not stand by and watch as you ruin him."

She didn't bother speaking more than necessary, choosing to turn on her heel and proceed down the aisle. However, just as she pulled away Cordelia was yanked back to Riddle with a swift tug on her loose raven strands. A gasp escaped her as the witch attempted to move forward yet failed, instead being pulled closer to her opponent.

"Let me make this clear, Black-" Tom paused, tightening his grip on her hair as Cordelia tried to pull away.

"If you choose to meddle with my knights, so be it, but you will not be the one facing the consequences."

He yanked her head back as he finished, emphasising the threat in a not very gentle way. Surprisingly, Cordelia didn't mind the tug and saw it coming. What she didn't see coming was a certain French pureblood boy waltzing down the aisle with a confused frown plastered across his lips.

"Lia? What's going on?"

Antoine pulled out his wand as he approached the two of them, his gaze trailed on Tom's hand fisted around her strands of hair. Thankfully, Riddle didn't seem keen on destroying the library for a petty duel and let go of Cordelia, allowing her to sigh and walk towards the French boy.

"Thanks."

While Cordelia knew she could have handled the situation on her own, she appreciated how Antoine stood up for her without knowing her for too long.

"It's alright, I was actually looking for you."

This caught her attention as Cordelia walked away from the bookshelves, paying no heed to the glare sent her way from a certain Riddle.

"What is it?"

Antoine waited for them to exit the library before he spoke, tucking away his wand simultaneously.

"The Beauxbaton champions know something about the first task. I wanted to make things fair and tell you that it will-"

The raven-haired girl held up her palm before he could finish, making Antoine furrow his eyebrows and visibly swallow his words.

"If I'm going to win this Tournament, I plan to do it fairly."

Antoine shook his head, presuming Cordelia didn't quite understand him as he reached out a palm and began rambling yet again.

"You don't understand! Estelle and Camilla were informed about-"

Cordelia cut him off yet again, this time using a prompt glare rather than a physical gesture.

"The French can keep their advantage for all I care."

A look of shock was sent her way, but Cordelia shook her head and turned away from the brunette French boy, lightly muttering a goodbye as she moved away from the library's gold gates. Light clicks echoed around the hall as she made her way back towards the Hogwarts girls' dorm.

Cordelia had a tournament to prepare for, and no amount of brunette pureblood boys would change that.
