Instead of going at it wildly or just passionately, Max and Mala were sitting across from each other. Sitting in a pool of pure magic and spirit energy. Within, figures around 6mm could be seen floating safely.
The ice drop floated between the two pulsing. It resembled a tear dop in a way. Point or the tip slowly released more energy in the area. In the base, if one looked closely at a microscopic level, one was able to see the development of cells.
*Doop!* Another dropped into the pool. Mala shuddered from the energy released. They had been at it for what she believed to be an weeks. Both only a few hours. Her face enraptured in completed bliss feeling all the life started.
Max grabbed her hands and placed it on the Ice Drop, a small squeeze and it stopped producing energy for awhile. With a gentle push, it was placed inside of Mala's chest. The special characteristics of her body as a Kryptonian and her cultivation allowed her to hold the energy.
"This is more than I thought possible. So many of them." Mala said softly. Her breath catching after a moment. "This ICedrop is to precious. Capable of restarting an entire race in an instant."
"Correct." Max gave her a warm smile. As he pulled his hands back, she grabbed them tightly. "Yes?"
"I.. this more than I thought it would be. I can still feel the power inside. Glad I trained to resist. But is this right for me to be the Progenitor of my race?" Mala was a bit afraid. Which was very rare for the General. More and more she was grateful Dax-UR made his decision and she chose her own with Max. The other Kryptonians she gathered over the years also were happy. Even more so with the place, Max set up for them in the Milky Way. "I.. do not want to handle this responsibility alone. I am free to have others help yes?"
"That was the agreement." Max nodded. "Who do you have in mind?"
"Karen Starr.. will do well. I think..." Mala watched him closely for any change. There was none. Karen Starr was the original one chosen to help redo the Kryptonian race. Along with any other powerful well-minded members of the race. Which was few and far in between available. Kara Zor-El.. was not found yet. And was for a lack of a better word.. unfit. Not to mention Kal-El (Clark) nowhere near responsible enough. "I will talk with her in further detail."
"That is for the best. I am not the best at those matters." Max said sheepishly. "No really the delicate type at times. Especially lately." The others noticed and started to think of a countermeasure to help him. WHich resulted in them needing to take matters more into their hands. More responsibility. "Appreciate the hard work you are doing. Never forget that Mala."
As max stood up, his clothes reformed around him. The less interference during the process, the better the results. Only thing that would make it better, was if he and Mala were actually in love with one another or had sex during the process.
Joining of souls would amplify the powers more than anything else.
*Woom!* A small pulse and a mirror appeared. With Mala putting such a focus on Max, she finally noticed something.
"The mirror color has changed. Not as bright as before. Even darker on the edges now." Mala floated out of the pool slowly almost. Small strands of magic gave her clothes. As a veteran warrior and with her own personality, she did not mind clothes much. Tending to free volleyball a lot. Which left quite a few others in the complex slack-jawed at times. "I know it means something, I do not want to figure it out."
"Hehe, of course it does." Max chuckled looking over his shoulder. "But figuring it out would give you a hint about some things. Which always helps in the long run."
"Tch, only thing that comes to mind is that your soul is tarnished or something. Or someone else by the look of it. A lot of someones. That .." Mala grabbed hold of the mirror edge with one hand and Max with the other. "..that can not be it. To simple. Blasted Pantheon rules and deeper meanings, it is maddening at times."
"That is true in the beginning. A lot in the middle, but not so after. Especially if you can remember everything."
"I remember it being a bright silver at times. But that was early on when we met. When I first met you out of the Phantom Zone." Mala rather not think about that early time. Reminded her to much of Dax-Ur and his dismissal of her.
Max gave her a simple nod. Not really saying something else since he couldn't actually. The mirrors were a method of travel for him as a Champion personally. But he himself could not see the changes around it. Just one of those things as it were.
However, those he was contracted to could, discern some things if they were paying attention to it. Max himself could never ask them about it personally, only allow them to him.
Claire had developed a "Flame Mirror" just recently. She did have a talent for certain things Max was finding out lately. It was good the two had such a rough start. To compatible mindset wise. Which would result in favoritism.
Orm and Atlanna already understanding something about it. Due to magical instinct. But they left it alone as it was technically a private matter. Atlanna more than Orm.
"It just turned darker going inward!" Mala said suprised. Her finger at the top left corner now. Using her enhanced vision, she looked closer in detail. Thanks to the heightened identification of her eyes, she saw people's faces sculpted. The faces twisted in agony and pain for a moment. The people then closed their eyes and mouth. Small lines coming from the ears representing blood she assumed. "They just died.. or something?"
"If those people did not look familiar to you in any way, what does it matter?" Max said neutrally. "Are you starting to care about every living thing in this Dimension? Some might consider that soft. I am sure yo.."
"I have not grown soft!" Mala snapped. But her fingers tightened on Max. In a few minutes it softened turning into a slight caress. Her voice coming out softly as she felt a bit of knowledge enter her mind. "They are strangers to you as well. That much I can tell. Billions of people in that area alone."
"What if they are not really "strangers" to me then? Does that change things on how I should feel about them?"
"Pft of course not." Mala scoffed. "But it is in your mirror, which is confusing to me."
"Careful now. Would you go further into this if it meant harming all of them?" Max waved a hand over the area at the countless embryos. "Restarting a race is hard work, let alone making sure they make it to adulthood at least. If the information you uncover messes with your mind.. well then.." He paused to let it sink in a little. Mala gave a little shudder. "..they may suffer from it."
"I am no child Max, I am foremost one of your generals. What kind of woman would I be if I let every little possibility influence me so strongly? I am no coward, I know the risk of everything I do. Generations of military made sure of that. You have made sure of that!" Mala was a very strong-willed person for sure. Physically she was at the top with Helena, Grail, and Slade. Spiritually, up there with Jonah, Constantine, and Big Harvey.
She gave up on Mental study for the offense. Only focusing on boosting mental defense. Which only failed against Harleen among his contractees. With Atlanna giving her trouble due to experience. "Tell me. I wish to know."
*Bwoow!* A ripple of power went out, a response to her wish. The additional energy washed the area and circled around the mirror at the same time. For the embryos, this made them stronger, and healthier. For the mirror, it revealed fully to Max.
"I see..." Was Max's immediate response. His eyes racked it over fully, committing it to memory. Turning to Mala, he was happy for the wish she made. "The deities your people use to worship, Aethyr, presider of the Phantom Zone lives through a Kryptonian woman by the same name.
Cythonna - Goddess of Ice and Mother of Monsters waits in the far reaches of space. Where Kryptons Galaxy used to be. Soon.. a few years from now, she will awaken and discover that the "Light of Rao" still exists in all of the Kyptonians that live. Including myself due to the refinement of that dagger."
"So the Pantheon of my people still lives.." Mala said in a mumble. Almost unbelieving of it. Remembering the others from history, she became worried. "..maybe I shouldn't have asked?" She gave a lopsided smile. Not thinking the information would have been that bad. "But what does this have to do with your mirror?"
"Everything." Max brushed his hand along her cheek. "This mirror represents every one I am responsible for. Within this Dimension, as well as others that I have passed through. Just one of those "divine" things really. But then again, if I was a Devil, it would be the same way. If you joined Gaia's Pantheon as a Champion, it would develop the same way. No matter where I go, my mirrors come with me. Whether I use them are not for travel has no bearing."
"I have no intention of joining her Pantheon. Working for you is good enough." Mala shook her head adamantly at that. Her mind would not budge on the matter. Same as Helena and a few others. "I assume each of Krypton's Pantheon members exist in a way still?"
"Yes. Kara - Ancient Goddess of Beauty, is the woman going by Karen Starr. She sleeps inside her, dormant and not influencing her in any way. But not that of physical beauty. The beauty of the soul. Which fits her to a tee. Lorra - Ancient Goddess of Beauty is... not gonna say that one really. Best not to. Mordo - Ancient God of Strength resides in Dax-Ur and .. the genetic son of General Zod."
"Who is that son!?" Mala was surprised to the least. The idea of Krypton's greatest military leader and madman having a son out there with more power than he should is stifling. "Where is he!?"
"I currently do not know. Shielded in a way. Still an innocent person and all. Actually helping people from what I remember." Max rubbed his chin in thought for a bit. "Not a problem I can currently deal with. Rao - The chief god.. is no more. A tiny bit in each of you. As well as if you have children naturally with each other. Half breeds will not carry the light of Rao. Something new would take shape I suppose."
"The children created from the Ice Drop between us?" Mala stopped looking at the mirror, then towards the embryos. Part of her wanting to honor her people carrying a little bit of Rao's light in them. A small honor to the past. But the practical part of her, the calculating part of her understood that was an unneeded liability. "That "dagger" refined by you, gave you more of Rao's light. Technically making you a part of us. But none of the abilities. Which you had before due to being a champion and your cultivation."
"It is up to you." Max would not make the decision. Since it was not his call. "Before they draw first breath will be the last chance you get to decide if they do. Breath is tied to the "spirit" in a way after all."
"I understand." Mala raised her hand up high. Slowly gold traces of light left each Embryo towards her palm. "If I wish to be a good ruler, a good leader, I can not leave that weakness to them. Especially against an enemy like that waiting in the darkness of space."
*Boop!* She pushed it into Max. Which was swallowed by the special prison he was building in a part of his Tartarus.
"But they will keep the connection to you. Even if it is small." Mala gave Max a soft look. A very longing look that left him.. unbalanced a little. The two said nothing for a few minutes. Just enjoying looking at each other. Mala spoke first. "Tell me of the others."
"Flamebird - daughter of Rao, is inside Thara Ak-Var. Trapped in a prison that I am making sure will be dealt with. Can not tell you of the details right now."
Nightwing - the hunter of darkness is Lor-Zod. Trapped in a special corner of the Phantom Zone. Partially due to the Dimensional Collapse, I discovered recently. The info was not the best to hear. Vohc - the Builder is dead. Killed by Brainiac, who is responsible for the destruction of so much on your planet. His essence to scattered to return normally. A lost cause."
"Telle - Ancient God of Wisdom... is Raya. I can just tell." Mala said slowly. Almost as if she knew this to be fact before thinking it. Her eyes radiating with power the more they talked. "No wonder you trust her with so much. That means.. Murkk is Trolius - Ancient Lord of the Air."
"Correct." Max smiled as things progressed better than he hoped. "That leads one other." His touch on Mala's cheek became firmer. Yet soft at the same time. Yuda - Goddess of the Moons and Marriage, resides in you. But also melding with you."
"I see." Mala didn't know what to say to that. Never feeling any different, besides a comforting feeling when in a state of mental turmoil. EIther she would reach out to talk with Max, Selina, or Atlanna or get through it herself. Herself .. happened to be a goddess of Krypton. "Much to think on that later. Did you always know this about us?"
"Nope." Max shook his head slowly. "The scenario never really forming fully to let me know. Only the contracts formed with each of you and the refining of the dagger gave me more insight. Was not until now it all came together. Blame the Ice Drop for that."
"I will." Smiled and turned her back to him. Hands extended, energy left her hand then turned into rock almost close to that of marble. It expanded in seconds into a mirrored outline. The surface shining brightly inside. "I understand my role more now."
As she continued to work, Max watched for a little longer before moving into his own mirror. Mala shocking him with the last statement.
"The Light of Rao, it is apart of you due to the refinement more than you you think. Harleen and I discussed something close to this before. She carefully and very cryptically explained to me what happens when "you" do refining of certain objects." Mala's eyes were closed as she spoke. Very sure that Max listened to her speak and didn't leave. "I will not bother you with the details. Just know I know "Champion." But I am not like the Amazon woman surrogates. You are my "Rao" for my people. When enemies come to harm us, I want you there fighting at my side. The same as when enemies come to Earth with me at your side."
"I... I understand." Max's words came out shaken. Some things to think about later. "Be safe Mala."
*Bwoom!* The mirror rippled a little then vanished. Mala tending back to the creation of her own. A small smile on her as things worked out for her.
.
Another Chamber-
.
Raven was floating as she read over some tomes given to her. Inside the tomes were several magics she never had the chance to study before. Every avenue she would study as she can. All to prepare for the future.
*Chk!* The door opened pretty loudly. Claire, Selina, Constantine, Harleen, Orm, Pamela, Zatanna, and Teth-Adam walked in.
The oddest thing, a small yellow smoke wafted off their clothes. All but Teth-Adam for some reason.
