It was like a cloud had been lifted. Livy was happier than I had seen her in a while. There were still moments of fun, especially after we figured things out at her mother’s house, coming to peace and understanding. The last few weeks had weighed on her, I knew enough about the business to know, the thrill of planning and the promise of victory were the main things that kept her going.

It was all over the media after it happened. Both social and traditional. It wasn’t every day a corporate powerhouse like Steven’s up and quit. He had said ‘retired’ but no one really believed it. At least he hadn’t pulled the usual bullshit about ‘spending more time with his family.’

He was just done and had more or less said so, in a way that didn’t seem to be trying to salvage his ego. From all appearances, Livy had at least somewhat broken his spirit, as well as his stranglehold on continued power.
