The voice of Alex was of an adequate level which permeated a unique magnetic vibe. But still Oli was struck dumb when she heard him.

"Then why are you working as a regular knight?" Although he was revered in his city, he did not have any strong position. 

Just the leader of a group of knights that were protecting a small city. No matter how she looked at it, the position did not suit the crown prince of an empire.

Not to forget that this empire was patriarchal. Princess would never be able to take over the empire.

But did that mean she doubted his words? No! Even if he had said that in the middle of the war ground she would have believed in him, not to forget that they were standing in front of his enormous and luxurious palace.

What was there to doubt then?

His eyes sank hearing her words. She never minced words when it came to him but that did not mean he was bound to reply.
