Capítulo 1: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 1

So, here's the thing, he may or may not have died. The reason was that he simply didn't remember dying before going to bed the previous night, but he could have passed away in his sleep.

The next unexplainable thing that happened was that he woke up as a completely different person, in a universe that was all but fiction. Not anymore it seems.

He recently gained the memories of Marashi, the body he…took over? He feels no effects from the person he is now inhabiting apart from the memories, isn't that strange? No lingering wills or feelings apart from his own. That's good. The fewer identity crises from transmigrating, the better.

Marashi, who he will refer to himself as from now on, is from Kakashi's generation and the same age as him, but nowhere near his talent or skills.

He graduated from the academy at 10 and became a chunin around 18, damn a worse track record than Kiba…Tenten? What a bummer. His mother died during the Third Great Shinobi War when he was 12 and his father later in life at 21. Ever since his father's death, Marashi had retired and took care of his shop which was basically a retail store but for shinobi.

The store was nice and stocked as his father always kept it. He wasn't a shinobi and from Marashi's memories, he saw a lot of familiar faces when looking back to his childhood.

Fugaku, Hizashi, Hiashi, Minato, Kushina, Mikito, Choza, and so on from the older generation. His father was a very good salesman and a people person.

Now, did he want to continue running the store? To be honest, he isn't sure. The reality was, that he could at most become a rank-and-file Jonin, but that would be his peak.

He would never rise above and become an apex existence, and did he really want to?

Not really. Squabbling in the streets, forests, or just boxing on-sight sounds exhausting.

Before transmigrating, he was an ordinary person. He played video games, read books and novels, went to work, and so on. While he may have inherited the combat experience of Marashi, it's still at the level of a chunin, and not a very good one. The eternal gate guards or Iruka would probably be able to beat his ass.

There's nothing wrong with wanting the quiet life anyway. He isn't from any clan, thank goodness he wasn't a Uchiha, he also had no redeeming or noteworthy shinobi qualities that Danzo would be interested in. The only things he'd have to worry about were the Konoha Crush arc and the Pain arc. If he survives that, then he's golden.

He could just sit back and watch the Naruto and Sasuke Show from the sidelines since nobody else really matters at the end of Shippuden.

While he could wait until the Boruto era, as much as he isn't a fan of the series, there will at least be video games there, so patience is key.

Marashi, still staring up at the ceiling in thought, was stunned as a transparent screen appeared above him.

[You have been chosen as the user of the Computer Cafe System! User Manual assimilation process will begin shortly!]

'Ah, of course. It wouldn't be a transmigration without an advantage or a golden finger as some may call it.' Marashi thought the name of the system was self-explanatory. That means he can play games and chill for a bit as Naruto and Sasuke just graduat--

He was assaulted by a scorching pain in his head as countless explanations and nuanced information about the system were drilled into his head. How could there be such horrific pain when the brain doesn't have pain receptors? Oh right, the blood vessels. Carry on. The pain continued.

Marashi heaved for a bit before calming down.

'Right, nothing is for free. Beauty is pain…no wait, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger…not the right context here…ah, no pain no gain!' Maybe he was still disorientated from the memory raid on his brain or soul…that's always a hot topic in places where souls are confirmed to exist. Naruto is one such place.

Anyway, the Computer Cafe System is exactly how it sounds. His store will become a computer cafe and there are CC Points where he could purchase a variety of things such as snacks that don't exist here, more games, and more computers.

The awesome part was that it included a beginner package and Virtual Reality technology to the level of Sword Art Online, or any of the VRMMORPG novels in his previous world. Well, some of those have capsules or are sometimes called cabins, but these are just helmets which is far more convenient.

No such thing as a Synchronization percentage either, or if there was, it was 100%.

He opened his status page.

=+=[CCS]=+=

[CC Points] 0

[Games]

[Snacks]

[Upgrades]

[Beginner Package]

+[Stats]+

STR: C-

VIT: C-

AGI: C-

Chakra Pool: D+

Chakra Control: C

From the information seared into his mind, his stats are not great. The rank C was at the chunin level and C- being a below-average chunin, but still better than the best genin, although that was relative. Gaara was a genin during the exams and he'd crush him without a doubt, but that's an extreme example.

With these stats, he's cooked in the near future.

The good thing is that he could upgrade his stats with points! Ain't that great? The problem is that he needs to make money purely off his store's sales. Luckily, he'd gain money and points, instead of converting Ryo, the economy would eventually be affected if that was the case.

Marashi opened up his Beginner Package.

[You have gained 10,000 CC Points!]

[You have gained 5 Computers/VR Helmets!]

[You have gained Snack Machine!]

[You have gained Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 1!]

[You have gained Store Immunity for 2.5 years! Completely invulnerable as long as you stay inside the shop for the user, customers, and the cafe itself!]

Now this was a great haul!

Each computer costs 200 CC Points a day, but that's only when they are in use, which is a lifesaver. Of course, he'd have to use his own money to play, but that's fine.

The conversion is exactly 1:1 for Ryo to CC Points and about 100 Ryo is $1 USD.

He shouldn't make it too expensive, as he'd have to remember that culturally, computer cafes is mostly a hang-out to game with friends, mostly teenagers and young adults. Charging 2,000Ryo per hour is ludicrous and an extremely bad business model.

Marashi thinks that 500 Ryo per hour is not bad and very affordable, most people carry this amount or a bit more in pocket change. Also if five computers are used, that's 2,500 Ryo or CC Points an hour. If they played longer, the profit would be even larger, excluding the 200 CC Points to use the equipment for the day.

However, there is a feature called Gamer Benefits, which will have actual, tangible, effects on those who play, whether that would be an increase in chakra reserves, strength, talent, chakra control, it varies from user to user and Marashi knew that this will help a lot in customer retention. The cost of this would be increased from 200 to 400 CC Points per day, but that's fine.

He went downstairs to his storefront and the PCs were there. Black desks with keyboards, mice, and headphones for each station with the VR Helmet on top of the PC. All of it is indestructible so even if one rages out, it will be fine, but he may ban them depending on the severity. It all depends on how funny it is.

Marashi could also customize everything here, which he did. He changed the wooden flooring to a more modern white texture that will allow the wheels of the chair to move around smoothly. The walls have a crimson red trim going up to the ceiling in each corner with the rest of the wall filled in with black. The ceiling had the same crimson-red trim going around the ceiling like a rectangle with countless stars and galaxies in the middle with a black background.

He tried to go for a theme of a red and white cube with countless galaxies and stars above to showcase limitless possibilities. It sounded off in his head, but now that he is looking at it with his own eyes, it looks incredible.

Why? If one were to imagine it in their head, it would sound pretty bad, but if one could actually manipulate the space inside the storefront, then interesting effects could be made.

Marashi had an entirely 3D effect showing that the stars and galaxies are further away than spatially possible. It was as if one was looking up at the sky rather than a ceiling that was only 10 feet high.

Moving on, there was already the Snack Machine, which was really just a highly advanced vending machine, and a reception desk.

He could make Gamer Cards, which were quite similar to game cards in arcades where you load up money on it and insert them into games to play, but here you would slot them into the PC and select how many hours on the screen.

It also works on the snack machine or you could pay with just cash but there are bonuses and discounts he plans to add if one just uses the card.

The next order of business was the games itself.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 1 was given and when he selected Games on his status screen, he won't unlock the next one until he reaches 10,000 CC Points in sales. He doesn't know what it is, but it shouldn't take too long, having a diverse selection is key to attracting the most customers possible.

He could also edit the game, which includes adding AI Speech Recognition when one plays VR for a more immersive experience, this has a limit since if you say wild things the characters just won't respond or acknowledge it, which is morally correct when one says degenerate shit.

Marashi could also add Co-Op to the campaign missions which would add to the fun, but he'd only allow such a thing once someone has completed the mission solo, so both people won't have to do it. He could also add difficulties, rename them, and new mechanics to the harder difficulties.

It was around 7:00 am when he finished and the store officially opened. In the future, he'd open later since if it was truly a 9-5 then he'd close at 3:00 pm which was unacceptable, or he could work longer.

Although, working a 12-hour shift is never fun unless you work at a computer cafe and are the owner of it…maybe not even then.

'Well, at least I won't have to worry about my safety now.' He definitely wouldn't been interrogated by how he has such technology and he originally only wanted close friends from the academy to play, but it seems he could truly have anyone come inside.

The duration protected him from the Konoha Crush arc but not when Pain showed up.

It's also coincidentally a few days after Naruto and Sasuke graduated from the academy. Maybe they'll come to the shop? Hopefully.

After 30 minutes, someone did come in.

His old deskmate in the academy, Hayate Gekko.

"Hey, Marashi!" Hayate walks in before he starts to cough and as he checks out the surroundings, his cough worsens at the complete overhaul. "What's all this?" His breath normalizes after a few seconds.

He notices the strange devices and the posters Marashi put on the wall for Call of Duty.

"Ah, this is a Computer Cafe now, where you can play games." He explains as he makes instantly creates a sign above the door, "Computer Cafe."

There was no reason to name it anything since nothing like this even exists elsewhere so it's quite simple and memorable.

Hayate was quite stunned and confused considering that he used to come here when Marashi's father ran the place, but to change to a completely different product of…games. He didn't know what to make of it, nor of the, quite frankly, alien devices along the opposite wall from the front door.

It was positioned where the desks are sideways so if one were sitting at a desk, looking left would be where the front door is. He did this simply so that others could see new people walking in and that it was the only exit.

"Games?" Hayate mutters before looking at the graphic posters of Call of Duty and making the connection. There was nothing else that would give him a hint. "How do you play?" He had to report to the Hokage's Tower in an hour so he had some time to kill.

"You pay by the hour which is 500 Ryo. Either directly by cash or you could get a Game Card that has some benefits. You could load up the card with hours so you won't be interrupted and have to get up to pay for more time, your spot could also be taken if it's busy. I'll show you exactly how if you want to play." Marashi gave him the rundown and Hayate was more interested in every sentence. It was completely foreign.

"Sure, I'll take a Game Card." Hayate as a Special Jonin naturally had quite a lot of savings. He mostly just spends it on dates with his fiance and hanging out with friends.

Marashi, after receiving the 500 Ryo, handed him a Game Card and got up from his chair to one of the computers.

"Alright, just tap the card against the computer, and you will be granted access to play," Marashi explained and Hayate did just that. The computer monitor lit up to a black background with the words, "Computer Cafe" on it. There were also a few icons at the top left of the screen.

One had a detailed page icon labeled, "Cafe Forum."

A headset icon labeled, "Cafe Speak."

Another with a text bubble icon labeled, "Cafe Chat."

The last one was a generic controller icon labeled, "Cafe Games."

Hayate stared with a squint to figure out what to do and Marashi knew what to do.

"Cafe Forum is where one could create articles, theories, walkthroughs, and opinions of games. Cafe Speak is where you could talk to one another with your headset like a radio, Cafe Chat is just a messaging platform where you could write to others with a Game Card, and Cafe Games is where you'd naturally play the games." He explained and Hayate couldn't help but be blown away by the technology. It wasn't anything he'd ever seen before, apart from the Cafe Speak since it's similar to short-range radio that shinobi use to talk to one another.

Marashi showed him the various peripherals and how to use them which Hayate got the gist of and clicked on the Cafe Games icon before shown a screen with just one image of Call of Duty.

He clicked on the game before shown a choice.

[How would you like to play?]

[PC] or [VR] ?

The icon on the left had a keyboard and mouse while the right had a helmet.

Hayate thought it looked similar and saw the same helmet on the PC.

"What's VR?" He asked.

"It's for those who want a more immersive experience. The PC option is where you'd look at the screen and the keyboard and mouse is how you'd control what's happening, while VR would use your whole body just like how you'd move and do things normally." He, once again, explained and Hayate didn't really know how it worked but the VR sounds easier to him than a keyboard and mouse that he only just got acquainted with.

"I'd like to do the VR one." Hayate clicked on the VR image.

[Please put on the VR Helmet.]

Hayate grabbed the helmet and put it on his head.

[Connecting and launching Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 1 VR. Confirm?]

"How do I confirm?" Hayate coughed as the headset displayed the text with the desk and computer still hazily visible which once again shocked him. He had a feeling this would be a reoccurring instance.

"Just say confirm and you're good to go." Marashi smiled and went back to his desk.

"Confirm." Hayate's vision immediately blackened and his muscles relaxed into the pillow of the chair as if he were unconscious.

He was immediately taken to the main menu screen with background music that he'd never heard of.

"What in the world?" He raised his hands to his face and realized he couldn't, or that he couldn't move, only his eyes. There were a few options but one was grayed out.

[Campaign]

[Multiplayer] (Coming Soon)

[Options]

He wondered how to select them and wanted to go into Options and it immediately responded.

"So that's how it is." He murmured and saw two settings.

[Pain Modifier: 20%]

[Subtitles: Off]

"Pain? In a game? I should've asked what kind of game this was." He sighed and as he was thinking of the option an explanation appeared before his eyes.

[Setting this option lower will reduce realism and authenticity which will lower your benefits. Setting this option higher will give greater benefits.]

"Benefits?" Hayate decided to set this to the maximum as it could give him a bit of a warm-up, even if his mission is only C rank.

He looked at subtitles.

[Enables text at the bottom of your vision, this is helpful for characters that have an accent or another language.]

"Really?" He was surprised, "There are other languages in this game? How is that even possible? There's only one language in the Elemental Nations." Hayate decided to turn it on.

After that, he exited the menu and went to the Campaign and was greeted with more options.

[New Game]

[Mission Select]

[Arcade Mode]

Only the top option was playable and not grayed out so he pressed it.

The screen completely shifted to the S.A.S symbol along with a map that was entirely different from the map of the Elemental Nations.

"Gaz? Cpt. Price? Nukes? Another day at the office?" Hayate couldn't help but wonder what nukes are and what civil war is going on. He knows about the one in the Mist, but this is quite interesting. "Russia sounds like a country. Maybe it's like Konoha or the Land of Fire?" He murmured.

There was a bunch of screens with some kind of weaponry he soon found familiar as the poster in the store had it as well.

"Al-Asad? Most powerful man? Is he a kage-level person?" Hayate saw the image of him and he didn't look particularly impressive, but he knew better not to let looks overtake his judgment. An unassuming guy might be a Jonin-level shinobi.

"New guy? Soap? Is that supposed to be me? What kind of name is Soap?" Hayate couldn't help but feel bewildered at the name. MacTavish was also at the end so is Soap just a codename like in the ANBU? Is this what kind of game it is? His fiance is in the ANBU so he couldn't help but feel excited at knowing what it is like.

"S.A.S Training Compound in Credenhill, U.K." Hayate thought aloud as the place was unrecognizable. The map seemed to be entirely different too and he was quite excited at the thought of foreign places. He wasn't much of a reader but he was drawn into the storytelling.

"This should be a training mission or something." Hayate guessed based on the place. The grayed-out option before had [Mission Select] so he assumed that he'd be going on ANBU-type missions.

The screen zoomed in and Hayate's senses immediately kicked in.

"Why the hell am I so heavy?" He questioned allowed.

"Don't tell me you're that fresh, recruit." Gaz sighed in resignation. " Anyway, it's good to see you mate. Take the rifle on the table over there." He pointed behind him.

Hayate couldn't help but flush in embarrassment. He didn't immediately pick up on Gaz's presence which was a rookie mistake but he could hardly be blamed. The powerlessness was completely foreign to him outside of his academy days, and even then, he felt even worse.

Without a word, he saw what he was talking about and handled the foreign object. Hayate still felt the weight but aside from the initial feeling, it was all good now.

Unbeknownst to him, his character was trained to carry such weight and fight, so the foreign feeling was having a body without chakra.

Something Hayate quickly realized.

"I can't mold chakra?" Hayate felt an innate sense of panic as anyone would at having something that had been with him since birth completely gone, but knowing it was just a game he quickly calmed down.

"What are you muttering about? You know the drill aim your rifle down range and fire from the hip." Gaz walked to an elevated platform to watch him.

Hayate didn't really know what to do but he saw the range to his left and where Gaz went. Stepping up to one of the cubicles, he saw targets lying down and knew he was in the right spot.

'How do I fire this thing?' Hayate inspected the rifle and immediately the game paused which freaked him out and he was sent to a completely black void where a gray silhouette with the same rifle as him stood before him.

"Hold it like this and pull this." The androgynous voice explained as Hayate got a close-up view. Hayate was thrown out and back to the paused game.

He mentally shook his head and unpaused.

Hayate held it as he saw that figure do and pulled the trigger. What he didn't account for was the loud bang and automatic fire. He immediately lost control of the gun as the bullets went everywhere, only hitting one target.

"What in the bloody hell was that?! Are you having a wank, mate?! Do it again!" Gaz couldn't believe what he saw.

He was lucky that Gaz was behind him so he couldn't see his scarlet-red face.

'This is going to take a while, isn't it.' He groaned as the targets went back up.

Hayate aimed the rifle downrange again.

=====

Well, here's to another story. There are quite a few stories like this, but I wanted to make my own spin on it. The first game is naturally inspired by that one novel where people get angry at the developer, but the second mission was so damn difficult to read that Godzilla would have multiple strokes over it.

Anyway, all chapters won't be like this, but since Hayate is the first victim, we'll get a more in-depth experience while others will be glossed over with a few key moments.

I might make some omakes for the fun of it. I already have some ideas. It'll be mostly humorous involving tropes and whatnot.

I don't have a consistent upload schedule because of life and responsibilities, but I'll try my best.

Until next time!
