"Lex? What are you doing here?" Rudy asked as I stepped into the dungeon.

"I will watch the prisoners for now. You've been here for a while." I tried to look calm and helpful, but I don't think he bought it.

"Talia told me to stay here, so I am."

"And as your superior, I am telling you to go. Spend some time with your family. I'm sure they are worried and frightened."

"Well, yeah, they are, but-."

"Just go, Rudy. Before I decide to change my mind." This time, I did my best to give him a reassuring look.

"Thanks." He smiled and hurried from the room. He might still suspect that I was in a foul mood, or that I would take it out on these demons, but he wasn't going to argue with me. Not when I dangled time with his family before him.
