Inside the town were screams and cries of tortured people. But he never bothered to help them, as he too, was in the same state. It had been his twenty-first step since he started running away from his fellow kind, and up until now, he's still catching up to him.
"There you are," Tasan said, as he swung his sword towards him, now blazing as the fire surrounded his sharp blade. The holder had the palette of silver and ruby forming tribal patterns. Kandani, who had been running, dodged his deadly attack.
He had never been good at dodging ever since, but somehow, he can avoid his sword. And he knew that his past friend will never go lazy on his task at hand. That's where he found something is wrong with his behaviour.
"Hiding and running as usual, are we?" He mocked. His prey stopped in his tracks and turned back around, now facing his opponent in front of him. The armed scarnet also didn't move and just stood up.
Then, the once sharp sword had turned into a long lance, the edge can reach anyone at a far distance. After the transformation, he pointed it towards him, threatening his life.
"Why are you doing this… Tasan!" Kandani shouted, shivering at his presence, especially the fire relic that he had been holding. He remembered the time that they were both wishing the relic be given to one of them.
Yet he knew that he wouldn't obtain it, since his friend had the blood of the ancient family. But he just used it to wreak havoc in every place he could find rather than protecting his kind.
The fighter didn't answer for a while and just stared at his faceless prey. He lowered his head, as he clutched his hands and tightened the grip of his sword.
"Our race had always been quiet… and a coward." He explained. His face may not be seen, but you can feel that he was feeling a mixture of sadness and anger. "They've been hiding and running every time. They don't want to fight."
After hearing this, Kandani couldn't help but drop his head, looking at the ground full of ashes. It's true that scarnets had been coward. All they can do was hide and be quiet. They're the creature of peace after all.
"They let the Lamician kingdom rule over us like a dog in a leash." He added, raising his head. If one could see his face, then he would be glaring out of anger by now. "I want to cut that leash, and start a new generation that has the courage and will to fight."
"Not a coward, such as you and the other scarnets."
These words left their whole surrounding in silence. Nobody decided to talk, as one was filled with satisfaction, and the other with guilt. Of course, not everyone would be delighted being labelled. Not all tendrins want to be happy, not all scarnets want to hide, not all encantors want to be majestic, and not all humans want to be greedy.
"Mama!"
The quiet atmosphere was interrupted by a shout of a little girl from a near distance. This caught their attention, so they turned around to see a small tendrin walking anywhere, holding a wooden sword. She doesn't know how to use it, since she was holding it in the wrong way.
She wasn't recognized as a tendrin at first because of her birch trunks. Her hollow eyes were wet and continued to pour tears on his cheeks. The yellow glowing light started to enlarge as she cried. Her magenta hair was now stained by twigs and leaves, and the small sapling on top started to wither in the environment. Her head was twisting and turning in any direction like she was looking for something.
"Mama!"
The small one yelled once more until she finally found the two scarnets in front of her. She jumped out of surprise and started to shiver at the unknown people. Then, she raised the sword in her hands, but still in a wrong position.
"Oh, look what we have here," Tasan said as he started walking and staring at the poor little girl, filled with dark and intense aura. No matter how much she wanted to run, her legs were shivering out of fear, waiting for him to do something horrible to her.

Meanwhile, minutes ago, the battle between the creepy daminon and the skilful encantor had started. Clanks and swishes of the sword can be heard in between the screams of the panicking residents. The fight favoured the two fighters, but one knew that only one can win.
Kairos sprinted back to stand up straight, his smile on his face was wider than before. He had been giving him attacks, but most of them were being blocked and dodged by him.
Cainne had been running out of breath, started to lose his stamina even though the fight had just started. All he did right now was to defend since he had been at the disadvantage the whole time. But no matter how tired he is, he still didn't show his weakness.
"Hmmm…" He said as he rested his chin on his fingers, holding the thin but pointy blade on the other hand. "…you're actually quite strong."
"This will be hard." He added. He raised her arms and shrugged, but his opponent didn't make any reaction that would make his guard down. "But that makes it more fun, right?"
After that, he started laughing maniacally, which echoed all around the gate entrance. His laugh made his target more uncomfortable, as he started lowering his sword into the ground. Then, he finally stopped his laughter and wiped the tears of joy from his eyes.
"My apologies, I shouldn't be laughing at this moment." He said, remains of the laughter still can be heard from his words. "Now, let's continue the fight."
With that, he lowered his knees and sprinted towards him at great speed. This caught the former off guard and couldn't be able to do anything than just to raise his sword and block some attack. He was too nervous that he lost focus on his opponent.
Kairos made it in front of him with close distance. He swung his sword and aimed it to the immovable encantor. Before he knew it, some of his body had been wounded in just a swing, but he's still alive to feel the torture and pain.
Blue blood had started to slowly pour from his skin, reaching the ground below him. He bitted his tongue as he had been trying to yell earlier. He knew that he had been a knight before, a sergeant, but he couldn't believe that he failed as a fighter right now.
He was now in a pinch, and the daminon had been wanting for some more.

Unlike the burning town, the undead woods had never been affected. The grey leaves are still falling and the trees are still standing. But they already knew that they wouldn't last for long. Soon, the fire that started at the south gate will spread around the town and further into the forest.
With minutes of running, she finally stopped and fell down into her knees. She took short breaths, pleading for air. But after seeing the long distance between the town and her, she knew it was worth it. Now, she's alone.
The tears continued to fall from her eyes, as it hits the ground with a small splash. She tried to hide the grief and guilt she had been feeling since then, not showing it to anyone. This may not be the first time she felt that it was completely her fault, but it still stabbed her like a thousand swords stuck in her chest.
If she wasn't for her, then the daminons wouldn't come here and massacre the whole town. Plus, she knew that there's a daminon lurking, but she brushed it off and focused on her training.
All she can say that she had been selfish this whole time. She got used to being the cursed child that she demanded the importance of her, that she must be kept protected. And she knew that it was the wrong thing.
In the middle of the grief, suddenly, a golden light shone so brightly in her pocket. It might not be strong and mighty like any light, but somehow, it gave her warmth under the cold grey woods.
She grabbed what's inside and ended up with the necklace that her brother gave her. The light gave her warmth, even though it was small and low. And she knew what this all means.
After inspecting the front, she turned it around to see the carvings that she inspected before. There were once two phrases displayed, forming around the wing figure in the middle. But now, there's something that she never noticed, the third phrase.
"Follow the voice you hear…" She muttered what it said, still pondering her unknown knowledge of the foreign language in the medal. And then, there's the remaining space in the top-right corner, giving it to the fourth and last phrase.
She closed her eyes, feeling the warmth of the necklace all around her. It's like it came from a person that cared for her, that loved her, and treasure her. For the first time in a while, she smiled.
"Meria…"
A whisper reached her ears that came from a voice of warmth and kindness. This repeated for a while, echoing into the depths of her heart. If this is a gift from her mother, then it never failed to give her love and care.
"AHHH!!"
While she was busy with the warmth, a sudden figure passed through her with an incredible speed that she couldn't be able to catch their whole identity with her eyes. The figure crashed to one of the trees, causing it to fell down into the ground, and for them to feel intense pain.
She approached to take a closer look. No matter how much mist was trying to cover her sight of the unknown space shuttle, she can still see their whole body. After scanning, her eyes widened. She covered her mouth as she finally recognized who was in pain, in which she didn't expect to encounter here in the woods.
"Cainne!"
