A few multi-colored glass decorations fall to the floor and shatter next to Vlad's bare feet. He jumps back.

I cover my mouth to stifle a snicker.

Morph leaps from his high perch, batting at a large flying insect. His paws connect with Vlad's back and left shoulder, then he lands on the floor, still chasing the winged bug. Morph propels his body forward.

I jump back to avoid a collision and slam into the doorway. His hind legs spin out on the slick floor, unable to find traction.
