Time: Sometime during the fall of 2678
Dim fluorescent flickered over the lacklustre white room, filled with the bare minimum of sanitized furniture and various dead medical machines tucked away into the dark corners of the room. The only sound was the occasional shuffle on the thin sheets or the slow drip of the saline solution from the IV, mixed with the slight humming of the lights from above. Sitting in the middle of the room attached to the slow drip of the IV was a pale-faced youth whose tearfully swollen amber orbs detached themselves from reality staring down at the branded tag around his lavender wrist.
"Patient: Hollice Katko
Ht. 6'1' Wt: 132lbs
M: 27Y DOB: 7/17/50
IPRT: 78378478234292342"
Graceful black-tipped fingers stroked the loose strands of his raven hair back behind his shoulders along with the messy ponytail, too exhausted to retie it with the remaining locks. His face most would be described as beautiful in an unnatural eternal way, despite the dark grey scar that cast its self upon his fair features across the right eye. Under his redden swollen eyes sat a days worth of makeup that had been moved by precious tears, reflecting the tired nature he has felt in the last few years of his life. Atop his long ravenous locks sat two twin glistening crescent horns drenched permanently a deep wine color. Readjusting onto the stiff white mattress his tail waved impatiently until settling down next to him onto the sheets.
Leaning back his fragile frame sat against a mountain of thin pillows his fair hands fashioned into a sort of backrest. Sulking in the dark beneath the gentle humming of a single fluorescent his thoughts were drawn in only to be startled back to the cold room as two crisp wooden knocks penetrated the silence followed by a low timbre voice. Hollice couldn't make out but clearly understood what it meant, the Doctor was here. The dull sound of a lock being turned and gentle jittering of the metal door handle rung out into the room.
Hollice swallowed the nervousness settling on the top of his stomach and fidgeted with his hands curling his fingers up into his palms and tucking his tail. His anxious face steeled over easily with from years of practice as he mentally prepared a few speeches and cons to getting out of here while trying to remain as sane as possible, despite his dishevelled appearance saying otherwise. With a creak, the dark mahogany door opened and easily latched behind the person locking with a dull click. Squinting in the dim light, the figure reached and flicked on the remaining bands of overhead florescences instantly brightening the already white room.
Mirroring the squinting motion back at the Doctor for the opposite reasons, Hollice glanced at him threw the three dark voids of his swollen eyes. The dark grey man with prominent ears and generic glass walked forward with his hand extended for Hollice to take it. "Greetings, I'm going to be your primary caretaker and psychiatrist while you stay here, you may call me Dr. Lawton" The Smaller purple-skinned man eyed up the larger man and his name tag to see if it checked out before reaching out and giving a quaint shake before the other man settled himself at one of the various empty chairs that dotted the walls of the room around the bed.
"Pleasure, it pains me to be as rude to ask so upfront and casually about the subject, but when am I going to be discharged? I'm feeling quite fine now and would much rather go back home and back to work" Hollice reshuffled onto the bed adjusting to look at the Doctor to more easily continue the conversation. "About that Hollice... I was going to ask you how you were feeling, you've been unconscious for quite a few hours. Do you remember anything before that and or are you feeling any dizziness?" Lawton locked his hands causally together meeting Hollice's gaze. Hollice's curt attempt to get out failed and was ignored by the more stoic man."I feel fine, and who cares about what happened before I'm better now I want to go home" two thin lavender lips drew together into a stiff line as the dark wine pointed tail wagged impatiently feeling annoyed and on the defensive after his failed attempt to politely get out.
"I do believe you do feel fine as of right now, I do. But I wanted to ask you a few questions about earlier before you leave. Do you remember or are you simply not wanting to talk about it?" The stern lips on Hollice dipped down for the smallest of moments into a quaint frown and returned to the stubborn posture before as his brows furrowed and the little crescents were pushed into his palms by the long black nails. Stiffening his angered posture he glanced directly into the eyes of the other. "Listen, Doctor..." getting up from the bed his gentle footsteps paced towards the sitting man as he spoke in an almost threatening way "You obviously know who I am right?" Un-fazed by the smaller man's advances Lawton replied stoically as ever staring back at him blankly, "Yes".
"Good, since you know who I am, you know what I am capable of..." The scar-faced youth drew his face an inch away from the others and reached for his collar tightly, drawing back his soft lips revealing a wicked set of double canines into an agitated smile, staring back in the others dark eyes. "If you don't discharge me right now, I'll make sure you never practice in any firm in the universe, I'll demolish this hospital, then make sure the rest of your co-workers never get new jobs as well so the loath you, finally I'll hunt down your family slowly one by one unexpectedly and let them know the longer they stay around you the shorter their own lives become..." his grip became tighter around his collar as he drummed on with anger seating into his voice. " L e t m e o u t " he slowly spat every salable out on to the doctors face then hushed out "Or else". His hands still gripped at the older man's collar tightening them to an almost choking level, searching his face for any sign of emotion or reaction to his threats.
Lawton's face remained unmoved as his eyes stated back into Hollice's yellow voids as he spoke up. "You can't harm me, your friends told me your not to be discharged until you show improvement, after that the promised that while you were away they would take care of things at work until you are in best of shape". The smaller hands released from the other's collar with a shove in an exaggerated manner as he briskly turned around knuckles white as he clenched them into a fist and he yelled out and into the room a defeated "God damn it!" his fist crashed down onto his pillow pile looking at the un-phased man from over his shoulder before he spoke up. "Judging by your failed intimidation and outburst we have a lot of improvements to make" Picking up the now spilled pillows off the floor and muttering god damn it a few more times before angrily taking a spot back in the bed sheathing enough that you'd think the Lil' devil would burn a hole threw it.
Staring at Lawton with a deadly gaze and breathing out a firey "Fine" he threw his hands up sarcastically "My shit head friends won't let me out of here until I'm better " he did air quotes aggressively pausing on better. "Fine, then let's get just get fucking started so I can get out of here faster" yellow eyes rolled as he relaxed onto the bed still radiating discontent. Lawton eased his posture back into the uncomfortable hospital chair and his face still remained unmoved. Although no one could tell it from his outward appearance he was annoyed at Hollice's childish behaviour, could the lord crime boss of all the families truly be this man?
Coughing into his hand he spoke up. "Alright then if that's what you think is going to help, why don't you tell me about what you did earlier today and the reason you are here?" behind black frame glasses he observed the lavender devil for any change in body language. The already angered one on the bed instantly became standoffish but tried to cover it blatantly, he turned his head away then crossed his arms blocking himself off. "Nothing, ask me about something else" the words came dryly and quick out as he spoke into the wall almost muttering them in a threatening manner.
Lawton stared as he watched as Hollice's self hugging arms steadied the slight tremors in his body. The events from earlier today when just asked about directly changed the fuming man's whole demeanour. Lawton clearly knew everything that happened earlier from he heard first hand from Hollice's closest friends the first-hand account. Dr. Lawton was just waiting for Hollice to admit to it, but seeing instantly how Hollice reacted to thinking about it, he'd have to wait. "That's alright then, how about you tell me about your relationship with Faust Von Luck? He was the one who you kept calling out for earlier today" Lawton knew this was the sorest of the subject, and watched as the last of Hollice's dignity at this moment shattered like broken glass.
Curling closer into a fetal position upright on the bed while locking both arms as tightly as possible to stop the tremors, to no avail. That beautifully sore face scrunched up trying to block out any outside stimulation. A trembling ball of nerves warm streams of silent tears glided down his face, "Please.... just don't ask me". The two of them sat in silence and Lawton observed the change in the man before him. Slow-moving streams drifted down Hollice's mauve porcelain features making their way across the deep gash across his face. The subject truly frightened him, enough to make him physically retreat into himself like this. The threatening shadow of Faust Von Luck truly loomed over Hollice's psyche enough to trigger today's episode of psychosis as well as all other facets of Hollice's life according to his closet friends. Lawton genuinely felt bad for Hollice letting the fear of one Von Luck completely break him in this way but, he was here to try and pull Hollice from that man's shadow as despicable as he is, Lawton was even afraid of him.
Ten bloody crescents leaked small streams down his arms as he dug his black claws into the tender flesh of his arms. Briskly rushing over Lawton rolled the densely pack man moreover to face him, and slowly tried reassured Hollice out of his fetal ball with kind words of reassurance that he was safe here. After a lot of coaxing and promises not to mention Faust again seriously this time. Reaching into a side cabinet he grabbed some bandages and quickly brought them back to the still shaking Hollice who was still densely packed into himself, he left just enough room for the doc to patch him up. No more silent tears feel from him instead as he sat up on the bed, woeful weeps escape him as his emotions caught up to his trembling form.
Lawton only watched after patching him up and letting Hollice cry it all out. On the inside, Hollice was burning with shame. He was never like this, first, he let his anger get the best of him instantly which is immediately out of character for him, some passive-aggressiveness sure, but no threats especially to someone outside of the families. He even got physical Hollice wanted to faint from the shame, his face would never recover from this. But he also didn't take well to any jabbing questions about his personal relations and fears but he should have been stronger than that, he was raised with thicker skin, yet here he is a trembling child all alone in the world again as others just watched him. No matter how much he tried to steady his hands nothing came from it as he only could listen to the sad shaky cries that filled the room in disbelief that they were indeed from his small frame.
Seeing as he wasn't bleeding anymore Lawton didn't want to hover over the recovering patient so he sat back down again and spoke up quietly, "If you need some space I can come back tomorrow morning and we can work on some other stuff instead?" Lawton inquired trying not to say anything to make this fit worse in a professional manner. Still quivering and in between woes Hollice cried out wiping at the ever ending steam running down his face, "Please don't leave me I don't want to alone!" he shakily cried out gasping for breath in between cries. He avoided eye contact at his selfish demand of the doctor if he were in Lawton's shows he wouldn't want to be in the same room as this uncontrollable selfish mess of a person.
Amiss the loud sobs of the small room Lawton spoke up quietly "Alright" was the only response as the man in the white coat relaxed again. Looking over from the bed Hollice stared at the un-phased man between watery eyes. "Please do something..." he sobbed "Isn't it your job to help!?" he went back to clawing at his chest as he desperately tried to breathe in. "Ok, if that's what you want, take some of these pills" Lawton leaned over without getting up and carefully placed a handful of little white pills into Hollice's shaky palms, then he quickly swallowed them without water trying not to choke. "That should calm you down some but you need to distract your thoughts so it will be easier to calm down."
Hollice steadied himself and started the process of trying to regulating his breaths, large breaths threw his mouth and long exhales exited his from his nostrils. He knew that he fucked up today, and sadly he just wanted to retreat into warm loving arms of Cassian instead of the cold white walls of the room, stuck alone. Recently he's been nothing but repugnant trash to Cass, and it wouldn't surprise him that after the stunt he pulled today that he would want nothing to do with him anymore. Slowly the sobs in the room were replaced with calm breathing enough to the point that he could speak without yelling out quickly before his sobs could swallow up his words, he spoke up faintly "Was Cassian the one who admitted me?" he tightened his hands and went back to solely trying to breathe and easing the shakiness in his chest while waiting for a response. "Yes, but..." before he could finish Lawton was interrupted by a meek voice "was he angry?".
Continuing as if he wasn't interrupted he went on "Yes, but he wasn't the only one, Lou and Belvedere were there as well. Although Cassian was the one who was most concerned and propositioned for you to get help the most. If your worried he's upset with you don't fret, he's gravely concerned about you more than he is angered. You're lucky" Guilt once away ate away at Hollice's stomach, as he avoided eye contact and tried not to overthink the last comment the Doctor made. After all his disloyalty, lashing out, emotional baggage, missing scares, and everything else he's dragged Cassian threw he still was his biggest support through it all. He sighed "I know" as he frowned and wiped at his eyes.
"Why don't you tell me about yourself? It's a start" the doctor spoke up into the silent room trying to change the subject and move on to a more positive topic. "What about me?" it came across and slightly rude but Hollice had no intent in his heart, he was just genuinely curious at what he was asking about, it was a broad question. "How about something simple first, do you have a favourite colour?" Hollice frowned looking down at his off white hospital gown, he's rather be caught dead than in public like this. He missed his warm attire that didn't leave him feeling bare beneath and the flare of red he so desperately craved. "It's red, women who wear red make their living in bed" he cheekily smiled, it was one of his favourite sayings and one of the reasons he loved the colour. It had a deep symbolism, it was the colour of blood, passion, sexuality, anger, love, and joy, plus Hollice looked devilishly handsome in it. Lawton awkwardly smiled in acknowledgement and took a mental note for later on the topic of sexuality.
"How about your favourite food? I can at least for you, have it arranged to be brought from outside the hospital cafeteria" Lawton adjusted his glasses. "Hmmm.." Hollice relaxed at the more casual conversation although it made him feel like a child being asked questions like this. It was a better change of pace for him than thinking about Faust and Cassian, his chest still hurt. "It might surprise you to find out that the richest man on this satellite, doesn't have a pension for gourmet 5-star restaurants if you could have Cassian pick me up some Strouffner's microwave lasagnas that would be splendid, he knows the ones I like." At the thought of those cheap frozen dinners Hollice's demeanour changed as he thought of the savoury goodness of noodles and finely ground meat sauce, he drolled at the thought. Back at home, it's about the only thing that lined his freezer, despite much scolding from Cassian, he can't help it. A soft chuckle escaped from Lawton as he looked over Hollice. "I guess your right, everyone has their favourite I suppose, I will have Cassian get some before he visits". Hollice dreaded to see Cassian in such a distressed state but he wanted those lasagnas so he complied at the thought of his beloved seeing him just to bring him cheap dinners. "Thanks, Doc, I'm sorry for the trouble..." he muttered under his breath, he had to apologize eventually for his rude actions, now that he was slightly under a more controlled state.
"It's alright, you haven't flipped your furniture, thrown excrement at me or actually physically attacked me so you're not too bad of a case. Why don't you tell me where you came from?" Hollice oof-ed at the thought of the other cases the doc has had to deal with and was relieved he wasn't the worst, but he still felt bad about his behaviour he should be calmer and reserved. "Looking at your record in your hand, you should see that I'm an unknown mixed species. So I wasn't born onto a home world, and my parent's origins are unknown to me sadly. I favour my father's looks, but I haven't seen any images of my mother so I couldn't compare. I don't know where I was born but I grew up on the luxury planet Vecitune in a penthouse, so that's I guess if I had to say where I'm from it'd be from there. Probably a more lengthy answer than you wanted but it explains it." That was a long time ago, Hollice mentally reminisced about the sunny beaches, stormy nights, the boardwalk, and other tropical touristy attractions.
Vecitune was the vacation home for the galaxy's wealthiest and had just about every attraction and luxury the 1% could need. Hollice's early childhood was truly blessed despite the fact he lived there rather than visited the gem of a planet. Lawton replied "Oh really? that's nice, as for your parents both of them to be about the same as you so I can't enlighten you on their origins as well, how rare." Hollice frowned he was too afraid to ask his remaining parent about his origins because he was worried it was a sore subject since he's never mentioned it to his spawn. "Thanks for mentioning it, I guess I am rare" he questioned, besides his second pupil on his left eye he didn't think he was too odd, but he was his own mutant of untraceable genes, neat.
Changing the subject once again Lawton went on "Why don't you tell me about your transition into power? How'd that happen, was it as smooth as you would've liked?" Oh, this was a slightly different tonal shift in the direction of their conversation but at this point, it was still avoiding anything he didn't want to talk about so he was willing to open up about his first few days as the newest Crime Lord of Las Paraiso. If anything the whole crime life was fascinating to those who aren't directly involved in it, so the question was possibly out of curiosity rather than any ill-intent, so he decided that he'd much rather weave a tale for the white-collared Doc about his degenerate deeds and show him how boring and stressful the real mob life is, once you're on the top. It really is lonely at the top. Hollice ignored those thoughts and smirked as he began to speak...
I don't expect anyone to truly understand what's going on in this chapter, it's a prologue for a reason ^-^ But it's mostly written with a lot of foreshadowing plus the purpose to make the reader question things threw out the novel until we get to them. So sorry if it's confusing ಥ_ಥ it's meant to be that way...
