Capítulo 83: Chapter 85: The Case is Solved

Song Desheng was too eager to frame Wu Zhiming.

When he confidently thought he could easily frame Wu Zhiming with some fabricated evidence, he rushed to the police station. If he could prove that Wu Zhiming kidnapped him yesterday, then Wu Zhiming would be the prime suspect. This would shift the entire focus of the case onto Wu Zhiming, giving Song Desheng more time to cover his tracks.

Everything should have gone according to Song Desheng's plan. Unexpectedly, Wu Zhiming somehow managed to provide a perfect alibi.

Now, it looked like Song Desheng was lying!

Once the police believed that Song Desheng was lying, it would be extremely disadvantageous for him. Furthermore, with all the information Wu Zhiming had revealed, Song Desheng found himself in a very passive position.

The Luoshen earrings were indeed sold, but it wasn't his grandfather who sold them—it was Song Desheng. The money from the sale didn't go into his grandfather's account; instead, it went into an inconspicuous company account controlled by one of his subordinates.

The police might not be able to uncover this immediately, but if they followed Wu Zhiming's suggestions, they would eventually find out. Once they discovered this, Song Desheng would undoubtedly become the prime suspect.

So, it was no wonder that Song Desheng broke out in a cold sweat.

"Xiao Chen, check Song Jingsheng's recent financial transactions, and also look into Song Desheng's finances," Zhou Jianye ordered his subordinates without any attempt to hide it from Song Desheng.

"Captain Zhou, are you suspecting me?!" Song Desheng asked excitedly.

"This is just routine procedure," Zhou Jianye replied.

"Then what about him? Why aren't you investigating him?" Song Desheng pointed at Wu Zhiming.

"Mr. Wu has a perfect alibi," Zhou Jianye said.

"I want to see my lawyer!" Song Desheng demanded, his face darkening.

"Feel free, but until then, you cannot leave the police station. Additionally, every call you make will be monitored," Zhou Jianye stated.

"I haven't done anything wrong, so I'm not afraid of being monitored. I'm calling my lawyer right now!" Song Desheng said, making a show of dialing several numbers.

Wu Zhiming sat aside, watching everything with a smile.

He only wanted to find out where the Luoshen earrings were. If Song Desheng hadn't tried to frame him, he wouldn't have bothered with who killed Song Jingsheng.

But surprisingly, Song Desheng turned around and falsely accused him.

Although Wu Zhiming had anticipated something like this, he hadn't expected Song Desheng to be so self-destructive. Therefore, he didn't mind solving the case of the Luoshen earrings while also solving this case.

Having watched over a thousand movies, there wasn't a single bizarre case in the world to him.

During his time in hiding, Wu Zhiming spent his days and nights watching movies and reading novels. He had a thorough understanding of crime patterns.

To him, this was a typical insurance fraud case. The person who killed Song Jingsheng was either the buyer of the Luoshen earrings or Song Desheng himself. Regardless of who the murderer was, the beneficiary was Song Desheng, so he was definitely involved.

As long as they investigated with this premise, finding the truth would be easy.

He didn't reveal his suspicions, only providing the police with a direction and casting doubt on Song Desheng. That was enough. The police weren't foolish; with a direction and suspicions, the rest was just a matter of methodically unraveling the case. If he said too much, it would appear he was trying to manipulate the police, which would be counterproductive.

Just then, Wu Zhiming's phone rang.

He glanced at it and, without hiding it, answered the call.

"Master, while investigating Song Desheng's connections, we found a man named Taikun. He's from Southeast Asia and is an expert with knives. Four days ago, he and Song Desheng returned to Haixia City from Xiangjiang City. He left Haixia City on a fishing boat yesterday morning. This man works for an overseas Chinese who runs a casino in Xiangjiang City called Mansha Gold," Dong Jian reported.

"And?" Wu Zhiming asked.

"Mansha Gold is the casino where Song Desheng lost money," Dong Jian continued.

"I understand," Wu Zhiming said and hung up.

"Mr. Song, the casino you often frequent is called Mansha Gold, correct?" Wu Zhiming asked Song Desheng.

"I won't answer any questions until my lawyer arrives," Song Desheng replied, his face stern.

"The owner of Mansha Gold has a subordinate named Taikun, a knife expert. If I'm not mistaken, your family was killed with knives, right?" Wu Zhiming said.

"I don't know what you're talking about!" Song Desheng said, his face turning ugly.

"Wu Zhiming, do you have new information?" Zhou Jianye asked.

"Five days ago, Song Desheng lost a large sum of money at Mansha Gold. Four days ago, he returned to Haixia City, and Taikun, a henchman of the casino's owner, also came back to Haixia City. I think Taikun came with Mr. Song to collect the money, right? Then, Song Desheng reinsured his family's jewelry. Early yesterday morning, Song Desheng's grandfather was killed, along with several family members. Coincidentally, Song Desheng was out drinking, and his wife, children, and parents were also not at home, so they escaped the massacre. At dawn, Taikun left Haixia City," Wu Zhiming explained.

"Song Desheng, did you have Taikun with you when you returned to Haixia City?" Zhou Jianye asked.

"I won't answer any questions until my lawyer arrives," Song Desheng replied, shaking his head.

Zhou Jianye frowned at him. "Song Desheng, you need to understand that this case involves multiple deaths in your family. If you know something and don't report it, your grandfather and those other relatives won't rest in peace."

Song Desheng took a deep breath, closed his eyes, and remained silent.

"Can I leave now?" Wu Zhiming stood up and asked.

"Yes, you can go," Zhou Jianye said, waving his hand. Wu Zhiming had already provided a plausible direction for the investigation, so keeping him there was pointless.

"Catching Taikun might solve all the mysteries," Wu Zhiming said with a smile.

"That's the police's job," Zhou Jianye replied.

"I'm just suggesting." Wu Zhiming then looked at Song Desheng, who sat with a dark expression on his face. "I hope we can see each other outside again."

"Wu Zhiming!!" Song Desheng growled through gritted teeth.

Wu Zhiming smiled, turned around, and left.

At this point, everything was clear.

After leaving the police station, Wu Zhiming called Dong Jian.

"Investigate Taikun's boss for me. The Luoshen earrings might be in his possession," Wu Zhiming said.

"Taikun's boss is Wan Liangyou. Interestingly, he's also from Haixia City. He moved to Southeast Asia over fifty years ago and later developed a business there. About twenty years ago, he got into the gambling industry and opened Mansha Gold in Xiangjiang City, which is one of the top five casinos there. Because of his Haixia City roots, he often visits here. Most gamblers from Haixia City who go to Xiangjiang end up at his casino. Song Desheng is one of his regular customers and has lost over a billion in his casino over the years," Dong Jian reported.

"Wan Liangyou... I've heard of that name!" Wu Zhiming nodded. "Investigate him and his henchman Taikun. If the Luoshen earrings are with him, we might have to visit him."

"Should I have him brought in?" Dong Jian asked.

"Too many eyes are on me now. I'm no longer the man hidden in the shadows. Any move could reveal our hand. So, let's not touch him for now. If necessary, we'll deal with him later. For now, let's not think about the Luoshen treasure," Wu Zhiming said.

"After all, the most important thing is still that matter," Dong Jian noted.

"Yes!" Wu Zhiming stretched and then asked, "Any changes with the driver's family in Huanghai City?"

"Not yet, but recently, some suspicious people have been around them. I think they were sent by Shen Hongyue, but they're very cautious and haven't made any moves yet," Dong Jian reported.

"That family must not be harmed," Wu Zhiming emphasized.

"I understand!"

"Also, spread the word in Haixia City's upper society that Song Desheng conspired with others to kill his family, steal the jewelry, and commit insurance fraud," Wu Zhiming said.

"You're trying to force Song Desheng to flee?" Dong Jian laughed.

"The police don't have enough evidence to heavily implicate Song Desheng. As long as they can't catch Taikun, Song Desheng will be fine. So, we might as well create public pressure. If Song Desheng panics and runs, a lot of things will become clear," Wu Zhiming explained.

"Got it!"

After hanging up, Wu Zhiming stretched again.

It was already Friday, and tomorrow Yao Jing's younger brother would be returning. He didn't have much impression of this brother since he had been away at university. Unlike Zhou Yanqiu, who was very snobbish, Yao Jing's brother wasn't like that. They barely had any interaction, just occasional greetings.

Although it was just a casual greeting, Yao Jing's brother was the only one in the Yao family who called him brother-in-law, so Wu Zhiming didn't dislike him.
