Colette’s mouth opened, but she didn’t have anything else to say.
“What the hell …”
“Did no one tell you? Eveline turned herself in for conspiring to harm her own child in order to halt the exchange of power in the Berry household.”
Colette’s brow furrowed. “What’s the possible sentencing for that?”
“One or two years of jail time for harming the head of the household. Most vampires get away with just doing community service or being under house arrest, however. And since her crime wasn’t murder of an Elite, then … well, she’ll probably just get a slap on the wrist.”
“Why would she turn herself in, then?”
“Guilt.”
Arabella spoke as they were driven to the courthouse, and Colette felt badly for Eveline. She was desperate in all the wrong ways. She wondered how far the woman would go to get her way, and maybe this was the first step in fixing her behavior.
