“Stop it!” Ellis pushed at Nash. “What the hell is wrong with you?”

Nash whirled around, the stabbing pain in his side cutting through the roar in his head. Ellis held up his hands but instead of looking scared he glared at Nash. “Why the fuck are you attacking Gilbert?” He turned to Gilbert. “And why the fuck did you hit him? How could you hit him?”

Gilbert sighed and shrugged. “I was trying to prevent him from running away. Unless you haven’t noticed we’re running out of time.” He gestured at Nash and widened his eyes.

Silence fell over the woods. Nash’s breaths were coming in puffs, blood still trickling down his body in a steady flow. He frowned. Why was he still bleeding? Glancing at Gilbert, he saw the cut on his hand already closing. Why wasn’t his cut closing?

“I can’t believe you hit Arlo, Gil.” Ellis threw his hands in the air in an exasperated gesture.
