Capítulo 77: Should I Bring Another Demon?

"What did you say?"

"My father-in-law's word is being questioned, so I ask you, should I bring a white Walker for all of you to believe? I have an army beyond the wall; we still have safe lands that will not be easily conquered, so anyone who has doubts can take a journey while those who believe participate in the war." Haldor's piercing gaze calmed all the lords of their respective houses.

"I will not allow a wildling to disrespect me."

"Be more careful, my lord; you are speaking to my niece's husband," warned Daemon, who had so far shown no hostility towards anyone. However, many present had forgotten where they were seated.

"My apologies…"

"There is nothing to apologize for; it would be wise for many to think it is impossible for the White Walkers to cross the great wall." Haldor acted before Viserys could say anything and pointed out, "But right now, you are all blinded by the comfortable life you lead. I believe only the north remembers the ferocity of the White Walkers."

"Not only the north participated in that war."

"But we finished it. Thanks to the Builder, we have all the Seven Kingdoms, lands, and riches to fight over." Rickon, who knew perfectly well what was at stake, said.

Haldor, maintaining his composure, pointed out, "Next to me is Baba Voss, commander of a large part of my army, one hundred and fifty thousand men to be exact, and who can bring all of you a new White Walker."

"That is very risky." Daemon acknowledged the ferocity of these enemies.

Luker, who was seated beside Haldor, said, "We ask every Lord seated at this stone table for metal, food, and young men. I have seen your swords, so I recognize that few have our forging skill, and your swords would be useless against White Walkers."

"This steel has killed more men than can be counted. Are you saying that steel is useless just because you are better at forging it?"

Haldor intervened and said, "Only steel forged with dragon fire is useful for killing White Walkers. Everyone will need at least swords of that quality to kill dragons."

"How much will each sword cost us?"

"One gold coin or half a ton of food, clothing, wood, or unprocessed minerals." Luker immediately mentioned when it came time to consider the negotiations for his people's work for the Seven Kingdoms.

"That is a damn robbery."

Haldor raised his hand and said, "That would be the price before, but now we will only charge you half a coin for the worst, and each time you must send two tons of varied resources. All of you will receive reports of our numbers, and as I mentioned before, if you have doubts, you can say so and be taken to the outbreak where you will discover everything."

These words left everyone in silence; no one wanted to die in the north, and even less satisfied their curiosity to see creatures that even the King himself had seen. All that was left was to wait.

Hearing about what these things could do, even dragons, which are considered gods, would not have it easy leading the front line.

Moreover, if they do not have the necessary weaponry to defend the wall, all of them would be in danger, and many bad things would happen in no time.

But Haldor's ready army was pleasant to hear about; this would give many time to organize their resources.

"Representatives from each house will be sent to the front lines to have a part of each house united in battle. This responsibility is something we all take."

Viserys nodded; this was about the best that could happen. Of course, no one would refuse to go to war if ordered, but doubts had grown in the hearts of many present.

All those doubts had been evident from the start; this way of viewing things would give insight into who was useful from Haldor's perspective.

There are many rats among the King's loyalists; some present might be his enemies the next day when Viserys's heir looks for weakness.

Haldor was patient; the Seven Kingdoms' throne could very well be his without even shedding his soldiers' blood to obtain it. For him, it was a win for the future, which is why he was engaging in all of this as if he were the king's hand.

"Alright, as I need to train the knights, I must excuse myself from the rest of the meeting." Haldor said his farewells to Viserys and left with his people from the meeting, where likely discussions would turn to the heir's appointment as King.

One of the closer lords asked, "How strong is that young man?"

"He is from the north; everyone who has lived in the north is strong by nature."
