"Father, did you call for me?" Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen, the eldest daughter of King Viserys I Targaryen and Queen Aemma Arryn, entered the room where her father was sitting, looking quite pensive.
Viserys looked at his daughter and gestured for her to come closer. "Daughter, have you heard about the recent instability in the kingdom?"
"Are you talking about that army that crossed the sea claiming to be the Rhoynar, who have come to reclaim their throne?" Rhaenyra's playful expression turned serious as she saw the gravity on her father's face.
"Stories tell of mythical creatures, magical races, and ancient beings beyond the wall, beings that we humans are not prepared to understand. But it seems that when the Rhoynar were cornered and knew they would lose against the ancient Targaryen house at its peak, they sent a group of wizards beyond the wall."
Viserys paused and then said, "This time, those who were in the far north managed to tame two great dragons. The prince was able to subdue a warrior race of armored bears, bringing back a concern from that place that we both considered."
"The White Walkers?" Rhaenyra seemed to be aware of what happened at that meeting.
"It is said that the White Walkers outwardly resemble humans but differ greatly in other aspects. They are as tall as most humans, with long, sparse white hair, and some also have white facial hair. They have white-gray, pale, veined, and gaunt-looking skin, despite their generally bulky bodies. However, their most notable feature is their vibrant, deep blue eyes."
"Only the Rhoynar have the power to face those White Walkers, so we made an alliance instead of going to war. You understand politics because you are my daughter, and you know I love you, but to maintain the stability of the alliances, I have betrothed you to the Rhoynar prince."
Rhaenyra's joy faded from her face upon hearing this. "Have you given me away to a prince I don't know?"
"He didn't seem convinced either, but he recognized the importance of the war that is coming," said Viserys, wanting his daughter to understand what was at stake.
"Does it matter?"
"He will come in the next few days; you will get to know him."
"At least, is he handsome?"
"Believe me, I haven't seen a better man in the Seven Kingdoms. He is at least mature enough not to hurt you, and I will ensure that."
…
The afternoon had arrived in this vast castle, which was so devoid of emotions that it felt empty, as if there was no one else around.
Haldor felt incredibly lonely here. Many of his purposes were left behind once some were fulfilled. Now that he was here, he wondered, What next?
The signs had been cut off, as if the only thing left was to continue living in a strangely familiar world.
"Are you lost?"
Haldor turned and soon found the strong feminine voice that had spoken to him. He smiled politely and said, "Walking without thinking has its disadvantages. Do you think you can help me?"
The girl approaching him seemed to be around his age, perhaps a year older, but overall there was no significant difference. "By your striking hair color, I must say you are the special guest this castle received today."
"It's much whiter than yours, but in the end, it's just hair." Haldor approached the girl and asked, "I am Haldor Mondragón. May I know your name?"
"It's not relevant."
"I think it is since we are talking, don't you think?" Haldor knew that the girl in front of him was from the Targaryen family; her emblem and attire did not lie.
"Just call me Rhaenyra." Upon saying this name, Rhaenyra seemed a bit regretful because the boy in front of her might know she was his betrothed.
But Haldor did not react, did not show any surprise, and instead walked towards a bench in this lonely garden. "Is there any fun place in this castle?"
"Have you gotten bored so quickly?" Rhaenyra asked, a little surprised by the behavior of this prince.
Haldor looked around and said, "Well, I think I was missing some company."
"You can go to a brothel for that."
"Not that kind of company. I am not that kind of man, miss. Besides, I am already betrothed," Haldor said with a bit of pride in his voice.
