It only takes a split second for someone's life to turn completely upsidedown. Noone really realizes how true those words are till that moment when they experience it. For Neptune Storm that moment happened on a sunny summer day like any other. One second she was just sitting in another boring history class barely staying awake and the next second, she and the rest of her classmates were watching people get killed right on the other side of their classroom window. This happened on march 26th, her birthday
The previous day
GRIIING!
That sound, the sound loved by most students in almost any high school. The shrill sound of the bell signifying the end of another torturous day of learning. This feeling was not any different in Redfeild High as students quickly filed out of their chatting happily away. In the midst of the sea of students, Neptune fought her way through trying to get to her locker. After several minutes of saying the words "Excuse me." or just plain shoving people out of the way she finally managed to make it to her locker. Her day had been hectic. From waking late, to missing the bus, to having to run to school because her dad wasn't home to drive her, to getting in a minor car accident, to finally arriving at school only to get scolded by the teacher, starving through lunch because she had forgotten lunch money and her best friend was vegan (she hated vegetables) and tripping down the stairs on her way to one of her classes, Yep! this was a certifiable bad day. Yet with all the chaos she just experienced she was still in a rather good mood because tomorrow was going to be her birthday. The mere thought of it made her squeal inwardly with excitement. She had the whole day planned. First she and her best friend Sophie would Ofcourse sing a birthday song and slice the cake, then they'd having a mini dance party, their favorite activity karaoke to some of their favorite songs and close it off with them binge watching the new season of their all-time favorite show 'Love under the twilight' with some popcorn and soda. Some people would say that this party plan was drab but to Neptune and Sophie this party was perfect.
"Hi there." Sophie appeared next to Neptune as she shut her locker door. "Hey BFF." Said Neptune happily. "You ready for the best day ever tomorrow."
"Uh.. Yeah." It was an awkward reply and although Sophie managed a smile, it was easy to see that she was forcing it. Neptune's face fell. "What's the matter Soph?" She asked concerned as they started walking towards the door. "Nothing. I'm fine really." Replied Sophie. It was obviously a lie. Even though Sophie was usually introverted and didn't say much, she usually had a warm smile on her face plus she had enthusiastically planned this whole party with Neptune. Today however, she was clearly downcast with a mourning look on her face, her eyes shiny like she was on the verge of breaking into tears and she even had bags under her eyes, an indication that she probably hadn't slept well either.
Neptune sighed. "Okay look. Why don't you save us both the trouble of trying to keep your troubles to yourself and me constantly asking and prying till you break, and just cut to the part where you tell me what's up and I help you feel better."
"I don't think there's anything you can say that'll help me feel better about this Neptune." Said Sophie solemnly. "It's something that even you would never forgive me for."
Before Neptune could inquire further they were interrupted by Sophie's older brother Cullen who was leaning on the side of his red convertible sports car accompanied by a blonde haired girl from his class, Allison. "Hey sis, ready to go home?"
"Hi Cullen." Cooed Neptune instantly lovestruck. She had had a crush on Cullen ever since he and his family first moved into town and he had almost accidentally hit her with his car because she had been wearing headphones and hadn't before walking into the street. Cullen eyed her degradingly before looking away without a reply. "I wouldn't be standing here if I wasn't now would I?" Spat Sophie.
The coldness in her tone was enough to snap Neptune out of her lovestruck haze as she turned to stare at her friend shocked. Sophie was usually very respectful and sometimes even formal when addressing her brother, what was with the sudden change in attitude. Untop of that she was glaring at him with a look of hatred. "Did they get in a fight." Neptune wondered as Sophie unapologetically walked over to the passenger's side of the car and got in. Cullen let out a small sigh as if tired of whatever argument they may be having. "Good bye babe." Said Allison pecking Cullen on the cheek. "Yeah." He mumbled walking over to the other side of the car and getting in.
As the car reversed and started driving out of the parking lot, Neptune yelled after it. "Don't forget my birthday party tomorrow."
Cullen sitted in the driver's seat scoffed. "There isn't going to be a birthday party tomorrow."
