Capítulo 34: 33.A Surprise meeting and a new discovery

**POV: Finn the Human**

They were still in the Candy Kingdom, sitting on a bench and watching the funny citizens of the place. It felt like a competition to see who could do the dumbest thing at this point, and both were thoroughly enjoying the free show that came with their meal.

Finn still enjoyed the taste of the pizza, despite it being slightly warm. The cheese had stopped melting in his mouth like it had earlier, but he relished every bite.

"Hey, Jake, tell me about other places in the Candy Kingdom," Finn asked, lying on the bench lazily. He was just too comfortable at that moment.

"Well, Finn," Jake replied, also lounging lazily in his chair, "the other places I didn't show you are mostly the Candy Kingdom preschool, where the young candy kids learn to read, the candy orphanage, where the orphaned kids live, the candy kingdom park, the residential area where you can buy your own house, the Cabdy prison, the shopping district and the bad side of the Candy Kingdom."

"What do you mean by the bad side, Jake?" Finn asked, curiosity piqued. But he held a slight desire to visit the shopping district. He was curious what they offered as products.

Jake contemplated the question with a slight frown before answering.

"Well, Finn, like any place that exists, as long as there is light, there will also be a certain darkness. The Candy Kingdom is no different. Despite what you've seen so far, which is mostly new-looking buildings with clean streets, there exists a harsher part of the Candy Kingdom. It's called the Back Alley."

Finn was aware of its existence. He recalled that episode where they mentioned the Candy Tavern was in the back alleys—a place where crime mostly occurred in the Candy Kingdom and where criminals operated.

"The main establishment there is the Candy Tavern," Jake explained, his expression distant as if recalling a memory. "It's a gathering place for all types of criminals, and it's also a good place to find information brokers. It serves great drinks, too."

Finn knew about Jake's past but didn't comment on it. Instead, he was more interested in why Bonnie allowed that part of the Candy Kingdom to exist. Given her nature, it seemed strange for her to accept such things. Did she realize that certain vices exist regardless of how much control she had?

He may not know her reasons for allowing such a place to operate in her kingdom but, Finn was sure the place existed because Bonnie allowed it to.

"Hey, Jake, if I hypothetically wanted to check that place out, what would you say?" Finn asked, sitting up and giving Jake his biggest pleading eyes. His blue eyes practically sparkled. Who could refuse a face as cute as his?

"Not happening," Jake said blankly, crossing his arms over his chest. He was not letting his little brother anywhere near that place. Maybe when Finn turned eleven or twelve, but right now? Not a chance!

Jake also didn't want Finn to discover anything about his past activities. It was too embarrassing and would ruin the big brother image that Jake had built in Finn's eyes.

Finn pouted at the refusal but soon found his attention drawn to something else. This time, it was a police chase that had been underway for a while.

Or at least, it was a poor imitation of one. This should have concluded over five minutes ago, but Finn had underestimated the idiocy of both parties involved. Both the criminal and the chasing banana guards.

"Hey Jake, why don't you help them out?" Finn finally said, growing tired of the Banana Guard and the thief wearing a black eyepatch and a black-and-white striped shirt running by. It had become a pitiful display at this point.

"Okay," Jake replied.

He stretched his leg out onto the path where the clueless thief was running. The thief himself looked like he was on his last legs as he stumbled over Jake's outstretched limb and went crashing forward.

Jake quickly pulled his leg back, realizing that if he had left it there, the other Banana Guards would likely trip over it too.

"WEWAWEWE! Oh look, the mysterious thief finally fell. How lucky!"

"No, he didn't. He was tripped by that guy sitting over there."

"But how could he trip him if he's sitting over there?"

"Hmm, I don't know. How did he trip him? Let's ask."

"Hey, did you trip this guy?"

Finn was amazed at how the conversation had progressed. Jake gave a thumbs up, and Finn noticed the guard who had spoken earlier light up with smugness.

"See, I told you he did it," he said, looking to his fellow guard.

"Okay, whatever. Let's get this guy back to the station."

The Banana Guards picked up the guy, who looked like he had passed out from the fall. Surprisingly, they lifted him easily and started carrying him away.

"Thanks for the help, fellas!" they waved as they left.

Despite the poor display, Finn was able to get answers to some of his thoughts as he observed the Candy Kingdom and its residents. This conclusion was based on his own observations as well as his memories.

First, Finn had to admit that despite the chase itself being a practical joke. He noticed that the candy people had above-average strength, and some even possessed superhuman abilities. This was when compared to the normal human from his old world.

Finn wondered if their strength varied based on their type of candy.

He also realized that the Banana Guards surprisingly had good stamina despite their foolishness—something he would say was their notable disadvantage.

Finaly with the presence of the Candy Corpse Revival Formula, the candy people were practically immortal if Bonnie wished for it? Considering how much Bonnie cared for them, Finn was sure they would exist for a long time.

Their only downfall seemed to be their destructive tendencies.

Finn did wonder on certain aspect about them though. For instance, did the candy people reproduce at certain points or was Bonnie only making them.

"Hey Finn, I hear something," Jake suddenly said, getting to his feet and perking up his ears.

Finn also broke from his thoughts to listen. He noticed that since he started his training, everything about him—especially his senses—had been improving. Finn could finally hear what Jake was hearing, or at least he thought they were listening to the same thing.

"Sounds familiar," Finn said, looking at Jake curiously. One glance was all it took for to realize they were hearing the same sound.

"Time for some investigation," they both exclaimed as they jumped off the bench where they had been sitting.

It was time to stretch their legs. Their journey took them back up the bridge they had crossed, past the residential area of the Candy Kingdom, and finally to a familiar fountain, the one Finn was sure released the red juice that Neddy produced.

But that was beside the point. The sound that had caught their attention, and seemed so familiar, was coming from the figure now sitting in front of the fountain, running a small stall with various items laid out.

The figure was humming a slow tune, deeply focused on what they were writing, and even from afar, Finn was able to identify who it was immediately.

It was Cornifer, the best mapper he knew!

"Hmm, hmm, hmm," Cornifer hummed as he huddled over what Finn assumed was his latest map, just when Finn needed it the most.

Finn quickly approached the mapper and offered a greeting.

"Hey, Cornifer!" Finn waved at him.

Cornifer lifted his head, hearing the familiar voice of the little human who had quickly become both a friend and a customer.

"Oh Finn, how nice it is to see you! How have you been?" Cornifer replied quickly, his voice cheerful at the unexpected meeting.

"It's nice to see you too, Cornifer. My brother and I were just buying some pizza," Finn said, motioning for Jake to join them.

"Hey " Jake said with a simple wave.

"Oh Jake, it's also nice to see you! I hope you haven't been getting into any trouble recently," Cornifer said with a teasing smile, causing Jake to laugh awkwardly as he looked away.

"No, I'm a clean dog!" Jake defended himself, and Cornifer nodded in response.

Cornifer's attention quickly returned to Finn. "Young Finn, come look at my newest map. I'm sure it could be useful to you," he said, laying out the map for Finn's curious eyes.

Finn moved closer to examine the map the esteemed mapper had created, and he couldn't help but feel impressed once again. What truly earned his respect for Cornifer was the fact that Cornifer had even managed to map out the location where Finn was sure the lich was currently imprisoned—a place marked by a big red skull with a danger sign written on it.

Was Cornifer braver than Finn himself? Finn wondered as he noticed that Cornifer had also mapped out the inside of the Candy Palace, a place Finn was sure Bonnie would be furious about if she ever found out.

This made Finn question whether he was being too paranoid. If Cornifer could venture into the lich's prison and come out unscathed, couldn't Finn do the same? Finn was confident he was stronger than Cornifer, who had ventured into dangerous areas even Finn was unaware of.

Could Finn truly call himself an adventurer if he was overly cautious and planned for every possible outcome? Wasn't the excitement of adventure found in the unexpected nature of each situation?

This whole encounter had made Finn reevaluate his entire approach, not only as an adventurer but also as a scientist. Even his past self, Leo, had been much more reckless than he was now, and that thought troubled him further.

[HORN BLASTING]

Finn wondered what could be going on now.
