"Ah, Lord- I mean, Ares. We should get to class, the results will be announced."
I groggily woke up to find that Evelyn had already gotten ready.
"Uh... yeah, give me a bit."
"Of course, I've readied the bath for you, I'll wait outside."
I freshened up quickly after seeing Evelyn's excitement.
Frankly, I was not very excited.
I was one hundred percent certain that my rank would be first.
Whilst walking, we talked about our expectations for our results.
"I heard that you made the elf princess quite upset?"
"...It's more like she made herself upset."
"For some reason, I doubt that's the case."
Hearing the sarcasm from Evelyn made me smile.
Her attitude towards me was improving day by day.
"Anyway, what rank do you reckon you'll get?"
I asked her casually, yet she seemed quite nervous.
"I... think I did good."
She was the type of person who would study endlessly for an exam, ace it, and then say they weren't sure if they did well.
I knew that she would at least get in the top 10.
As we made it to the main building of the Academy, we entered a crowd of first year students who were standing around a board.
As soon as my presence was noticed, people began murmuring.
'I don't really like this type of attention...'

The quest had been cleared, and I had obtained the bonus reward.
My credits had been rapidly rising as of late, most likely due to the fact I had thoroughly destroyed people's expectations.

If they continued rising at this rate, I could probably buy something actually useful.
The entire crowd was still silent, and I could more or less guess what was about to happen.
The fiery haired girl, Iris, decided to be the one to break the silence.
"How... How on earth did you get first place... It's...just not possible. Did you cheat? Do you think you can get away with it?"
As expected, someone had accused me of cheating, and the shocked gazes from the crowd turned into ones of hostile judgement.
'Are all these people idiots?'
"I uh, I got first place by scoring the highest... I studied a lot, right Evelyn?"
I looked at Evelyn, who awkwardly nodded her head, most likely as she had not expected me to mention her name.
"Anyway, I'm pretty offended by that baseless accusation... Is it that hard to accept that I'm a genius? My family is quite famous for that, after all."
"Come on, you think I'd fall for a shitty joke like that? I'll find out for myself just what happened."
"Well, I can tell you now that your findings will only conclude that I scored first legitimately."
Iris stormed away from the crowd after that.
Most of the crowd was silent, but I took note of the gazes of other notable individuals.
I did not dare make eye contact with Aria, whose killing intent was palpable.

The final week was not particularly interesting.
We went through the regular classes, but people were mostly just happy that they would be able to see their families again.
I had been quite isolated after scoring first place, more than I already was, if such a thing is possible.
I still talked with Cassenia and Evelyn, but that was about it.
The... 'friendship' of sorts that I had with Aria had basically disappeared.
'I'll deal with it next term...She'll probably have cooled off at that time.'
There was plenty of time to improve my bond with the heroines. Before that, my goal was to get stronger.
I wanted to become a powerhouse as fast as possible.
The feeling of not having my life be in my own hands irritated me to no end.
At any time, the vice principal could have killed me.
The thing protecting me was my last name, but without it?
I'd be long dead.
At the very least, before I graduated the academy at the end of my fourth year, I had to become one of the most powerful humans on the central continent.
My goals were lofty, but if a veteran of one hundred playthroughs aimed for any less, it would be embarrassing.
My thoughts drifted away from such thoughts, and I realized I had been unconsciously clenching my fists.
I let them go and instead thought of the brighter events ahead.
Vacation was upcoming.
Evelyn and I would be returning to the Castellan Duchy.
More importantly, I would be meeting my father again.
I was hoping it would be a little easier to talk to him considering my impressive feats in the academy.
The academy results were sent to all parents of academy students.
Another thing was that I would be meeting my brother in this world.
I had a deep desire to improve my bond with him, as well as the rest of my family.
I had adopted the memories of the previous Ares, and despite his stupid way of living, a part of him wanted to mend relations with his family.
That small part of him had grown inside me, and now I truly wanted to mend the broken relations.
Ignoring the emotional aspect, there was much for me to gain from the duchy.
My family was renowned for creating unbelievably powerful mages, and of course, they had many methods to increase strength.
Our vacation would be a month long, and in that month, I had to grow quickly.
The academy was quite generous with their vacations, considering many noble students had responsibilities back home, as well as the fact that the curriculum was stressful and rigorous, so students needed ample time to rest.
Unluckily for me, there would be no resting.
