Capítulo 3: C3: Summer

[ Saturday, June 18 ]

Today's my deadline for dad's speech for the upcoming ribbon-cutting event of the newly established site. Honestly, I don't see the sense why. But since dad always wants to throw a party whenever there's an opening of any of The Crown's hotel or resort site, there's always a part where he'll say something to the audience. I've been doing this since last week, and for some reason, I'm having this mental block on how to end the speech.

As soon as the clock strikes at 5 pm, I hurriedly packed my stuff and left my office. But home isn't the best place to head to this early. Everyone deserves a break.

I pulled out my phone and searched for the nearest pet shop from my location, leading me to "Keovia pet shop" which is 3.7 kilometers away from The Crown's office.

The bells jingle just like they always have when I push through the door. A furry cat jumped off the table and approached me, and it rubs itself on my ankles as if it knows me well.

I crouched to greet the creature. "Hey there, little guy," I said as I caressed the cat with my hands.

"It seems like that cat likes you very much and wants to be adopted," I looked up to see the person who talked, and it was a staff from the shop. "Good evening, miss Summer. We're so pleased to have you here." He beamed.

"Oh, you know me?"

The staff paused, and with his eyes, he communicated a 'how-can-you-say-that' look. "Uh, everyone knows you, I think? You belong to the family of one of the richest businessman in this country so… anyways, how can I help you?"

"Ah, that. Well, I'm planning to buy a cat. You know, this place is better to be called as cat shop because" I looked around to double check if my assumptions are correct. "All of your pets here are cats."

The staff paused for a moment, articulating his thoughts. But he didn't comment on my suggestion.

After taking a look at the cats, which I find most adorable, I end up picking the black silver-blotched tabby white Norwegian Forest cat. The staff suggested that I should pick a litter box, together with a collar and a bowl. He pointed the spot where those are located so that I can pick one.

I picked four litter boxes so that the cat can be free to move around the house. One of it can be placed in my office so that I can bring the cat in my office too whenever I'm in the mood of bringing it. Who cares? I need a stress reliever, and a cat is good enough to give me that little comfort that I wanted. Besides, I'm the daughter of the owner of The Crown Hotels and Resorts. I'm an exception, I have the right to break the rules.

As soon as I managed to pick the litter box, I chose a red collar as well as a silver bowl with the name Shawn in it.

"Shawn, that's a nice name." the staff said as he placed the items that I bought in a green paper bag.

He carried my cat and placed it in a cage for easy handling. The staff assisted me and carried the cage together with the green paper bag. I unlocked my car, and he placed the cat's cage next to the driver's seat while the white paper bag on the back seat.

"Thank you," I said and the staff nodded.

As I turned on the engine, the 12-pound cat sat upright and started clawing at the doors of the cage as if to say, 'Let me outta here.'

"Okay. From now on, I'll be calling you Shawn, my cat. I'm your owner and my name's Summer. I'll be nice to you little guy. When we arrive home, I'll play with you. But definitely not this moment, because you might distract me from driving." I said, holding its paw with my fingers. I couldn't help but giggle. I'm excited to spend time with my new pet.

----------------------------------------

I stopped at a coffee shop instead of heading home, carrying the cage with me. Eyes filled with curiosity became focused on me, considering that it's awkward to bring a cage with a cat inside a coffee shop. Lucky enough, I wasn't questioned for bringing a pet. It's not like I'm going to leave my pet inside the car to die from suffocation. As long as the cat's in the cage, it wouldn't spread some waste around.

As soon as I got my order, I looked around to find a seat where I can sit for a while and surf online. Meanwhile, as I browsed my Instagram account, I noticed someone approach from the corner of my eye.

"Summer?" I looked at the person who came, and it was Amethyst, her eyes narrowed.

I looked at my phone once again after seeing who it was. "Oh, it's you. What are you doing here?"

"Can I talk to you about something serious? I don't want to mess with you again. I'm tired of it." she assured.

"You're lucky that I'm in a very good mood now. It's not usual for you to be like this though. You sound like you're gonna open up or something." I said as I sipped my frappe.

"Let's face it: as long as The Crown won't be included in the topic, we can talk well."

"Exactly, so let's set that aside. What exactly do you want?"

"I never saw you talking to Sasha," Amethyst commented.

I gave her a 'what-the-heck-are-you-talking-about' look, disgusted with what she said. I rolled my eyes as I answer. "Do you really think I'm gonna talk to that peasant? I don't even know her number. You see, Sasha isn't my sister. She isn't our sister. I don't see her as one, and she's definitely not one." I replied quickly.

"How did you know?"

"You were born when I was three, and two years later, Sasha came. That's why I know that mom didn't conceive another after you because I didn't see her preggy. There's no other explanation. You know what? I am disgusted about the topic. If you're here only to discuss that little whore, please, leave me alone." Yes, that title suits Sasha well. I'm not exaggerating things but I'm very sure of it.

"No, no. Sorry. By the way, aside from that, I also want to ask for a favor. Can we please stop fighting about The Crown? I don't want us fighting anymore. I know both of us wants to inherit our family business but us fighting is simply immature. I'm so tired whenever we don't treat each other as sisters because of that."

With that, she pulled me into a light hug. I'm quite surprised that she's apologizing. I never heard Amethyst apologize. Besides, we never hugged even as kids. Seems like this means that I've been with my sister for 23 years, but I hardly know her. That or she wants to get something from me.

Still, I'm tired of our immaturity. Quarreling like kids every time we see each other's faces? It's really time to get over it. At least she had the guts to swallow her pride to live with me peacefully from this moment on.

"Wait, is that ... a cat you're keeping here?" Amethyst asked as she pulled away.

"Yeah, I bought one earlier. Meet Shawn, my new cat." I replied, beaming as I look at my cat. Shawn tilted its head a bit while touching the cage with its paw. Clearly, I can tell that this cat wants to go out of the cage already.

"Why did you name it Shawn?"

"Why, got a problem with it?"

"No, no. Not really."

"Let me guess. You want something more from me, aren't you? Just be honest, Amethyst. I don't think you'll just exert effort to apologize out of the blue. Not like this."

"Um, alright. I'll spill it. I know that you hate the topic, but it's about Sasha."

"What about her?" I asked as I sipped the last of my frappe.

She cast her eyes down and began biting her lip. She seems to be filtering her thoughts, but I can read that she wants to talk to somewhere private. I don't know, but it feels like she'll cry any minute from now.

"Hey, don't cry here. I can see that you're on the verge of doing so. Let's go home. I suppose you have your car with you, and we can't talk in the car because I have my car too. What's your plan?" I asked feeling a little worried about how my sister looks like, judging by her actions.

"Ah, right. You're familiar with the overview near the park, right? Let's go there and I'll tell you my thing."

----------------------------------------

The 15-minute drive felt longer than it's supposed to be. I don't know about her problem, but if it's about Sasha, I won't be surprised if it'll be related to Vaughn too. Just in case she'll tell me about her relationship problem, I can't imagine myself advising her for some solutions. Not because I've never been in a relationship, but because I don't know much about it. If I'll be honest with myself, I completely forgot how it felt like to be in one.

My phone beeped as I arrived the park. I swiped it open, flashing Amethyst's message informing me that she's not feeling well and she'll just head back home. Unbelievable. She should've told me sooner.

Half an hour later, I went out of my car carrying the paper bags and the cat's cage, bringing them to my room. Shawn eagerly ran out of its cage as soon as I opened it, observing the surroundings of its new home.

"Hey, Shawn. Before anything else, you should eat dinner first." I said as I cut the package of cat food with a pair of scissors. The fluffy creature rubbed itself around my ankles and proceeded to its silver bowl to eat.

Seconds later, a knock was heard from the door. I opened it, revealing Amethyst outside, smiling sweetly while it turns to a frown, sadness pooling her eyes.

"Are you ready to talk about it now?" I asked, the feeling of frustration from earlier fading after seeing her swollen eyes. Without any word, she pulled me into a hug and began crying on my shoulders.
