Capítulo 228: Promise

"Your mother asked me to look after you… to protect you, and I did just that" said Romanoff as he looked at Natasha and he smiled at her.

"By watching me in the shadows?" asked Natasha.

"It was safer for you that way, the further away I was from you, the better" said Romanoff as Natasha scoffed she could not believe that nonsense.

"You say that, but that still does not erase the fact that you killed my mother, you could have let her go, or tell whoever it is you work for that you did the job" said Natasha as Romanoff laughed, she was so naïve, so innocent, just like Ivanka was when she first started with him.

"Sorry to say devochka (girl), but there is no such thing as lying in the type of work I am involved in, they know everything" said Romanoff.

"Believe when I say that I tried to put it off for as long as I could, 12 years, 12 good solid years, your mother was free to live, but they never forget, they never do, and just to punish me, they assigned me on the mission, I could not disobey" said Romanoff.

"That is nonsense" said Natasha as she did not know what else to say, this was just horrible, she was in the same room as her mother's killer, and yet she could not do anything at all, she did not know why, but for some reason, she believed him, she believed his story, maybe because it was actually the truth.

"It is the truth devochka (girl), I recommend you sit down if you want to ask me more questions" said Romanoff as he smiled, nothing got him down, nothing at all.

Natasha just scoffed as she sat down across him on the second couch, she had him right here, right in front of her, there was no way that she was going to let him go, not until he had answered all her questions, and she was satisfied with all his answers.

"That is better" said Romanoff as he smiled, she was just like her mother, as impatient as the waves.

"How did you find me?" asked Romanoff as he drank his coffee.

"My mother left me tape recording, and I found the many post cards that you sent to her" said Natasha.

"Ahh, I should have known that Ivanka would not leave you in the dark" said Romanoff as he smiled, she always prepared for everything always.

"But that still does not explain how you found me" said Romanoff as he smiled.

"I did some research and I hired a hacker, he found your face recognition, off some old security footage, we tracked you down, for some reason, your name was Clark, and well here we are" said Natasha.

"You really are determined Natasha" said Romanoff as he laughed, she would be really terrible as his enemy, she was skilled and resolute just like her mother, Romanoff realized that he had been very sloppy as of late, maybe because he no longer had enemies, or more like all of them were dead now.

"Who do you work for?" asked Natasha.

"Ahh, well slow down now, that I cannot tell you, for your own safety" said Romanoff as he smiled.

"That makes no sense , didn't you promise my mother that they would not come after me?" asked Natasha.

"That I did promise, but they don't go after people like you, except you come after them, and show them that you are a threat" said Romanoff as he did not trust Natasha, everyone had long forgotten about Ivanka, and well if her daughter Natasha surfaced, she would be in danger.

"Fine" said Natasha.

"The next question I ask you, you have to answer me truthfully, you cannot say that you cannot tell me alright?" asked Natasha in a demanding tone and Romanoff smiled, no one dares orders him around, but this little girl here was, he did not know whether to be proud of her boldness, or to warn her not to be this bold with everyone.

"As you wish" said Romanoff as he smiled.

"Were you the one who caused my Father's accident, the one that made him lose the use of his two legs?" asked Natasha as she watched Romanoff's face closely, knowing that Romanoff had been watching her, then she knew that he knew something, or maybe he was the one who did it.

"Now that devochka (girl), I can answer to truthfully, I did not cause that accident, It was not my doing at all" said Romanoff.

"Then why was he involved in that accident? It was reported as a case of drunk driving, with the man who crashed into my father declared dead on the scene, and you and I both know that is not the case at all" said Natasha.

"Well, the thing is your Father went snooping In places that he was not supposed to, this raised an alarm, and they decided to teach him a lesson to make him keep shut, what is buried is buried" said Romanoff.

"Then why didn't they kill him then?" asked Natasha.

"They did not see it a necessary, after all, it was their own agent who asked for his help to betray them, he was only an accomplice, they only wanted him to suffer" said Romanoff.

"They confined my father to a wheelchair, till he died, he was only 51, and I was 20" said Natasha.

"I had to take care of my all on my own, until we decided that it would be best for him to be taken care of by professionals" said Natasha.

"He was getting better, he was feeling happier, until you… you killed him" said Natasha.

"Why?" asked Natasha.

"He was trying to tell you everything… they had been watching him, and they only wanted to give him a warning, or so I was told" said Romanoff.

"Warning my foot!" said Natasha.

"You killed him, you are a murderer Romanoff, you killed both my parents" said Natasha as she felt like crying, if she could, she would want to kill him herself.

"I am a murderer, I agree with you, but I can promise you that I did not kill him, I did not kill Larry, I would never do that, I promised your mother" said Romanoff.

"So who did then?" asked Natasha.

"Tell me devochka (girl), why do you want to know who did it?" asked Romanoff as he dodged her question.

"Tell me if the same person who arranged my Father's accident is the one who killed him" said Natasha as Romanoff was quiet, that was her answer, his silence meant yes.

"You know who it is don't you?" asked Natasha as Romanoff said nothing.

"Why won't you tell me, are you trying to protect him? It's a him, right?" asked Natasha as all Romanoff's silence told her was that she was right.

"You do not need to stick your nose into anything that does not concern you Natasha" said Romanoff as he finally spoke up, of course he knew who it was, but he was not going to tell Natasha his name, just out of fear that she would go looking for the man the same way she went looking for him, and he would not be as nice as him not to kill her once like that, that man killed for a living, he liked doing it, and Natasha was far off better and safer not knowing about him.

"No, it concerns me, they are my parents, they killed my entire family, and left me alone, since I was 5, I have only had my dad, and they took him away too soon in the worst possible way, all I want is justice" said Natasha.

"Are you sure that it is justice you want, or revenge?" asked Romanoff as this time it was now Natasha's turn to stay quiet.

"You are young, you have your whole life ahead of you, don't look for revenge In places that you won't find it" said Romanoff, he knew it sounded hypocritical coming from him, but he wanted to advise her well.

"That is easy for you to say Romanoff, they did not kill your family" said Natasha.

"They did… your mother was my only family, and they made me kill her" said Romanoff as he gave a sad smile.

"One thing you will learn when you are older devochka (girl) revenge does nothing but fill your soul with emptiness and death" said Romanoff.

"You are not one to advise me" said Natasha as she scoffed.

"Yes, you are right about that, but when I do advise you, you should know that I only mean well" said Romanoff.

"if you mean well then you will tell me who he is" said Natasha.

"No, and that Is final Natasha" said Romanoff as Natasha scoffed.

"I have answered enough questions for today, go home Natasha" said Romanoff.

"I will see you tomorrow, same place, same time" said Romanoff as he knew that Natasha needed to clear her head and relax, she had found out too many disturbing things today, and she needed time to take it all in slowly.

"Don't be late tomorrow" said Natasha as she stood up and she walked away, she was furious right now, Romanoff was protecting those who did not need to be protected at all.

Romanoff just smiled at her, he knew how she was feeling, but that anger and hate would not do her any good at all.
