Capítulo 493: Jump
Benjamin pulled Lulu up with one hand as she held onto him for balance and she didn't let go until she was sure that she was standing properly on her own two feet.
Lulu looked around as she blinked, waiting for her eyes to adjust to the darkness of the shaft.
"Alright I'm here, so what do you need my help for?" asked Lulu as she looked at Benjamin and she sighed, she just really wanted to get out of here as soon as possible, she was tired of this entire situation.
"I need you to hold my legs while I go down to try to open that." said Benjamin as he pointed down and Lulu looked at him incredulously.
"What??!! Are you okay?? Going down there? Are you crazy Ben??!" asked Lulu as she looked at Benjamin as she tried to figure out what exactly was going on in his mind, had being stuck in the elevator turned him mad or what??
"I'm not crazy, that's the only way for us to get out of here." he said as Lulu shook her head.
"But it's too dangerous, do you see how far away it is, and I honestly don't think that you'll be able to reach there." said Lulu honestly.
"We will never know until we try." said Benjamin quickly as she was shocked.
"Wow, and you call me the crazy one." she said as she shook her head.
"Look, I only need you to hold my legs so I don't end up falling." said Benjamin.
"Finish that sentence Benjamin, finish it, you're not only going to just fall, you are going to fall to your death." said Lulu.
"I mean what if I'm not strong enough to hold you, or worse, what if my hands slip and you fall? I can't do that, I'm not going to risk that possibility Ben, I say it's best we just get back down into the elevator and try to call for help again." said Lulu as this was simply to dangerous, she didn't want to risk anything, she was scared right now.
"I don't think that will happen, you need to think positively." said Benjamin as Lulu did not look convinced at all.
"Please Miss White, this might be our only way out, I know that you are scared, but I trust that you would not let go of me." said Benjamin.
"So what do you say?" asked Benjamin as Lulu was still reluctant, but with a sigh and shake of her head she said:
"Alright fine."
"Thank you. I need you to hold my legs tightly, if I go too far and you think you can't hold me anymore tell me" said Benjamin as Lulu nodded and he slowly went down and stretched his body outwards.
Lulu could feel her heartbeat ringing in her ears as she watched Benjamin slowly extend over the elevator, his body was dangling in the air as she prayed internally that they would not end up dying here.
Benjamin took a deep breath as he felt his upper body stressing to balance in the air, he did not have enough time to get used to the strange feeling of being in this position.
He immediately moved slowly towards the opening to the elevator shaft, he needed to move a little bit closer. Benjamin grunted low, this was extremely hard, if not for the fact that he was fit enough to hold his body weight, he would have collapsed from all the strain he was putting on his muscles.
He shuffled a little more as his legs were close to the edge of the elevator, and that was making Lulu very scared, but she didn't want to say anything to disrupt his focus before he accidentally fell.
Benjamin's hands were finally within reach of the opening, he stretched out his arms far as he tried to find a crevice that he could fit his fingers through, and luckily he succeeded at that.
Now came the hard part. His body was already in a very compromising situation already, the sheer force he would have to exert to push the opening would be too much for him to handle, he only hoped that the opening would not be too hard.
Benjamin focused as he took a deep breath and with all the strength he could muster in the moment he tensed up his fingers as he pulled with all his might, trying to pull open with all his strength.
Lulu could see him struggling a lot and her hands were getting sweaty, she prayed internally that this would work, she was getting a mini heart attack seeing Benjamin in such a compromising position.
Benjamin heaved as he gave it one final pull as with the sound of light metal screeching on the ground from the forced opening, the hoistway door finally opened as both Lulu and Benjamin breathed a sigh of relief. They could finally see outside the shaft, they were so close to freedom but they still had a long way to go.
"Now, slowly pull me up." said Benjamin as Lulu nodded, she did not know where she got the strength from, but she pulled his feet with all her might and she didn't stop until his entire body was back on the elevator.
Both Lulu and Benjamin heaved as Benjamin needed a minute to catch his breath, his entire body was aching, but it was worth it to see that his efforts had not gone to waste.
"So what do we do now?" asked Lulu as she looked at him and Benjamin looked at her and looked through the opening and then back at her.
In the corner of his eyes he noticed the metal cable of the elevator now visible due to the bright light coming from the opened hoistway door, and to his surprise, more than half of the cable had snapped. That explained why the elevator started to fall.
Benjamin decided to keep this to himself, he did not need Lulu worrying any more than she was, the most important thing was that they got out of here.
"We are going to get out of here." he said as Lulu held her breath, she didn't want to ask how, but she knew that she had to.
"How?" she asked in fear.
"We have to jump." said Benjamin as Lulu's eyes were filled with horror.
"Are you mad Ben?? Jump?? Jump down there?? You won't make it." she said as more of a fact than a statement.
"You're wrong, I can make it, it's not that far, if I get a good start I could make it." said Benjamin and all Lulu could see was the madness in his eyes. She regretted getting into this situation with him, she regretted ever asking him to go out with her today, She regretted mostly all her decisions today.
"I can't believe this..." she said as she covered her face with her hands and sighed.
"It's been an hour, and there is still no sign of help, correct me if I'm wrong." he said as Lulu looked at her.
"You're not wrong, but you're also not seeing how dangerous this is. Look, there's no way you're going to make it." said Lulu as Benjamin stood up, obviously not listening to her.
"Are you hearing me Ben??!" she called as he clearly was not, he moved further on the top of the elevator as he calculated his chances of making it, and even though they were slim, he had confidence that he would make it.
"Benjamin Maslow!!! If you dare jump I am going to kill you!!" said Lulu as she stood up, she had to change his mind before he killed himself.
But it was too late, Benjamin did not hesitate at all, he took a deep breath closed his eyes, opened them and ran before jumping as Lulu screamed.
"Ben!!!!" she screamed as her voice rang through the shaft and beyond.
"Lulu!!" called Dom in alarm as he heard her chilling scream from inside the stairway as he rushed and climbed down faster.
"Ben are you okay?!!" asked Lulu in alarm as she had already seen the worst possible outcome when she saw Benjamin jump, but to her relief, he had landed badly and his upper body had landed on the floor while his legs were still dangling in the shaft.
"I'm fine." he responded with a groan as he quickly pulled himself up and held his side, he had hit himself badly on the ledge and he was sure that he was bruised a little bit.
"Oh thank God, don't you ever do something like that again, you scared the living life out of me!!" said Lulu in a scolding tone as Benjamin stood up and looked up at her.
"Your turn." he said as Lulu looked at him as if he was deranged.
"What?? You can't be serious right now, there is no way I am jumping down, I'm not as stupid as you." she replied as she shook her head vehemently.
"Come on jump, I'll catch you." he said as he could not help feeling that the cable would break and the elevator would go falling down.
"No way, I don't trust you, I don't!!" said Lulu as she moved back and shook her head.
She could not do it, she couldn't jump, she was just too scared too. Benjamin was lucky, who was to say that she would be as lucky as he was?? There was no way that she would jump. No way on earth!
