Tang Rong looked outside the glass window.
At first glance, nothing had really changed. The location they lived in was one of the luxury residential areas, so the atmosphere was usually calm to not disturb the residents. But, on a closer look, in the garden of the villa in front of them, there were some suspicious red traces, almost like the live spot of a murder scene.
From the corner of his eyes, Tang Rong caught a movement at the end of the street. A few men and women were running on the street. Before he could observe them closely, Duan Wei, who was quietly standing by his side, leaned outside and swiftly blew out a loud whistle.
'Whistle!'
The shrill sound was extraordinarily clear in the silent environment. Tang Rong looked back at Duan Wei, intending to ask the purpose, but the latter seriously looked in the direction of the people. Before he could turn his neck around and look in the direction again, Duan Wei quickly closed the windows as well as the dark curtains. His whole body moved so fast as if he was escaping something.
Huh, is there something dangerous outside? Tang Rong wondered to himself, and very soon, he got the answers to his questions. Duan Wei opened a small space in the corner of the curtains and motioned him to look outside through it.
They were all five.
Two men, one woman, two teenage girls, and one small almost five-to-six year old boy.
'Grr…'
They occasionally made strange noises from their throats. The sounds seemed guttural, as if a person was making a sound from the throat. They often looked around, feverishly, like some rabid animals looking for prey.
'No this can't be…'
Tang Rong's eyes contracted and his hands felt cold. He subconsciously held his breath as he observed those strange human bodies sniffing in all directions, completely unlike human beings. Are they even humans? Or are they some new creatures? They wore clothes quite normally.
"Vroom-" Suddenly, the sound of a motorcycle speeding came from the nearby street. All five of the strange people whipped their heads in the direction of the sound and growled almost animalistically. The scene was quite eerie, considering that they were "people". Soon, they all ran in the direction of the sound.
Tang Rong stood stunned in the same spot. Duan Wei patted his back, seemingly understanding his turmoil and giving him strength.
"BAM!" This sound came from the corridor outside their room. Li Jin and Fang Bai were standing there.
Both Tang Rong and Duan Wei almost jumped at the high sound. Thankfully, the windows were soundproofed so the sound would not escape outside and bring trouble.
Tang Rong and Duan Wei rushed towards the bedroom door. Duan Wei was worried since there were already two zombies in the house. Li Jin and Xiao Bai were standing completely defenceless outside. What if something happened to them?
**
Outside the room.
A few minutes ago.
Fang Bai's POV
Fang Bai randomly traced his fingers over the designs on the wall but he still could not find words he should say to Li Jin. "So do you like AWei?"
"Huh?" Li Jin was taken away by these words.
"Do you like him? I mean, because of what happened in the room…"
"No no… I don't like Duan Wei." Li Jin frowned and denied almost immediately. He really had no intimate feelings about Duan Wei, just some good intentions.
Fang Bai slowly let out the breath he was holding. 'Thankfully, Li Jin has no feelings…' He really didn't want to see a dog-blooded storm in his brothers' lives. He did not get involved in them did not mean that he would allow others to get in between their lives. Not to mention that he was still suspicious about the intentions of Li Jin.
'Why the hell did Duan Wei even do that?' Fang Bai sighed to himself. He hoped that the two inside could talk and sort out the things among themselves. The intense dream he had a few minutes ago had already slipped out of his mind.
"Grr…"
Where did this strange noise come from? The sound of slow dragging feet was very clear on the tiled floor. Someone seemed to be walking towards them really slowly. Fang Bai could not see where this noise came from since there was a ninety degree turn in the hallway. Li Jin also stopped staring at the floor and looked in the direction of the sound.
Out of the corner, one of the two male helpers walked out. Fang Bai remembered this person; he was the person responsible for looking after the things in the villa and almost acted as the butler. Now, this person was walking aimlessly out of the hallway. After observing him, he noticed the latter's suit which was torn at the shoulder. A hint of red could be seen on the collar and it was not impossible to judge what it was. Instead of changing the direction at the bend, this helper walked straight until he walked almost into the abstract painting on the wall.
Li Jin, who was next to Fang Bai, stood up straight and took repeated glances between Fang Bai and the helper. Fang Bai had no time to pay attention to him.
The helper was in a very wrong state. His clothes were torn and he was also dragging his feet. Did he have a violent fight?
"Hello, what happened to you? Are you okay?" Fang Bai tried to speak politely. Li Jin almost jumped on the spot when he saw Fang Bai speak, but it was too late to stop him.
Hearing Fang Bai's voice, the helper jerked in the direction of the sound. He stood at the place, made an abnormal throaty sound which did not sound humanely at all, and almost madly, he started running in their direction with his hands stretched out and his jaws opened very weirdly.
Fang Bai observed the running person and was prepared to push him away, but Li Jin stepped ahead of him and pushed him(FB) behind himself.
Li Jin waited for the helper to reach him, and as soon as it was close, he whipped out a vase that he had picked up from the nearby cabinet.
'Bam! Thud.' The huge sound of metal colliding with flesh was heard and then the person who was almost madly rushing in front of them, fell down on the floor, motionless. Fang Bai winced low-key, but he was internally shocked. Li Jin is even doing murders openly?! Does this guy want to go to jail?
"Yo, Li Jin, calm down-... F*ck?!!!"
"Grr…" The person who had fallen down stood up again.
"What the hell! He's standing up!"
Fang Bai was flabbergasted as he dumbly looked at the person who again made that familiar 'monster-like' sound and got up from the ground as if he felt no pain at all. The flesh on his face had be deformed completely from one side and one could almost see the hint of a bone peeking out of the flesh. If it was any normal person, it would have been difficult to even breathe because of the pain. But the helper seemed to feel no pain as it almost immediately tried to get up on its feet, though failing miserably at that.
Something was definitely not right with this 'helper'.
"He is not a human anymore, Fang Bai", Li Jin answered the doubts in Fang Bai's heart. And as if to prove the latter, he nimbly avoided the 'helper's' hands which were opened widely like claws, and gripped the other's clothes to raise him from the ground. As soon as he did that, he did not give the 'helper' a chance to charge at him, and ruthlessly kicked the latter's knees.
"He is a zombie", he completed his sentence.
The kick was so powerful that those knees directly popped and shattered, and the weird helper again fell down on the ground. The shape of those legs had turned so ugly that it was even painful to look at it, but the helper seemed to have no feeling of his legs at all. He just had his whole focus on his 'prey' as he stretched his arms and tried to reach over to them.
Looking at this scene, Fang Bai felt a distinct thud in his heart. He blankly registered all the things he saw into his mind but failed to give any reaction. Meanwhile, the fallen 'helper', or precisely- 'zombie' stretched out its claws towards them, which almost hit Fang Bai. The latter motionlessly looked at the almost white hand with greyish nails approaching him and subconsciously wanted to look at it more closely, but Li Jin swung the vase in his hand once again and hit the oncoming arm.
"If you get scratched by it, you will get the virus and get infected. It won't be long before you become one of them."
After saying this, Li Jin swung his arm and hit the zombie's head from behind.
'Thud'
This time, the zombie fell down and showed no reaction at all. "If you want to kill them, hit the back of their head or neck, basically at the nervous system."
Li Jin kicked the fallen zombie with boredom and thought of sharing some more information with Fang Bai, but he heard a familiar guttural throaty noise, and this time, it sounded very close to them. Reflexively, he looked in the direction of Fang Bai and saw a fat female zombie running towards the latter from behind.
"Watch out!"
