She stood, forcing him to let go. 'I thought we'd settled this.'

'Are you saying,' he said quietly, 'that I'm still paying for favours?'

Growing familiarity kept threatening to make her forget what he might be. Recalling made her stomach roil. So twining her arms around his neck she worked at being playful. Concentrate on the important.

He responded predictably, his large hands bruising her hips. 'Are you coming home with me tonight?'

Against his fine fair hair she said, 'We're going to Chuck's warehouse at five thirty don't forget.'

'I'd rather go to bed.'

She kissed his temple. 'I want to go. Don't disappoint me.'

His hands came up under her armpits and he held her away. 'Only if you don't disappoint me.'

'William, I like to be romanced. Humour me for a while.'

'Only if you humour me now.'
