Late at night, in the bustling town of Gold Rush within the Gulf World.
The four young bronze-ranked mercenaries, having concluded their plans, had returned to their respective rooms to rest.
Yet, inexplicably, they all lay awake, tossing and turning, finding it difficult to fall asleep.
"Mr. Gord is right; with our strength, it's nearly impossible to complete the commission... Will we all... die?"
Jenny stared blankly at the ceiling, her heart filled with terror.
However, the image of her innocent younger brother's smiling face popped up in her mind, and her expression gradually became determined again.
"We must not let the orcs break through... Never!"
The rest of the squad, like Jenny, were also experiencing complex emotions, repeatedly imagining the possible scenes of slaughter that awaited them the next day, finding it hard to calm down.
Of course, this did not include Wang Hui.
He had not lingered in his room for long, closing the door and heading straight to the balcony, where he reached out to grasp the eaves and flipped onto the rooftop.
On another rooftop, two buildings away, a figure had been waiting for some time!
"You have finally deigned to emerge."
The man turned his face, and the moonlight cast a ghostly glow on his dark, form-fitting armor, making him appear as an ethereal specter, wavering and indistinct!
Wang Hui appraised the man with a glance.
About thirty years old, with a slender figure reminiscent of a woman, yet his aura and voice were distinctly male.
His deep gray hair hung naturally, partially obscuring his eyebrows and the upper part of his eyes, while a scarf concealed his chin and lower lip, suggesting a preference for keeping a low profile.
Wang Hui ignored the man's greeting, silently stepping forward along the rooftop.
The man's expression showed a hint of surprise as he subconsciously shifted his body to the side, bending his knees slightly, but he refrained from taking further action, warily watching Wang Hui approach.
Until they stood face to face!
"You seem quite confident in your ability to escape from the enemy."
Wang Hui, towering over the man by half a head, lowered his eyes to look at the plaque hanging around his neck.
It was a different shade of gray from silver...
A platinum-ranked mercenary!
"I have remained here waiting for your arrival, which proves that we are not on opposing sides, does it not?"
The man smiled, relaxing his guard and extending his hand to Wang Hui: "I am Dylan, from the Shadow Kingdom's [Gravediggers]. I apologize for the impertinent visit."
"Gord."
Wang Hui calmly shook his hand and asked directly, "What brings you to me?"
Dylan was a bit puzzled.
As an assassin, his name was seldom known, but the reputation of his mercenary squad, the [Gravediggers], was renowned throughout the four kingdoms!
Even the most powerful nobles had to go to great lengths and offer substantial sums to hire them, yet the man before him showed no reaction upon hearing the name [Gravediggers].
"...Mr. Gord has a straightforward nature, so I shall not beat around the bush."
Dylan spoke earnestly: "I would like to invite you to join the [Gravediggers]!"
As he spoke, he subtly attempted to withdraw his hand, but it was held firm.
Wang Hui's response remained calm: "Why me? Do you know me?"
"No, I should have never seen you before today."
Dylan glanced at the inn where the four bronze-ranked mercenaries were staying, his face revealing a hint of confusion:
"Why would an assassin expert who can perfectly conceal his aura choose to be in the same squad as those weak bronze mercenaries? You deserve better companions."
Assassin expert...
Wang Hui realized that the other man was sensitive to auras and could not detect the normal biological aura from his projection body, thus inferring that he was a fellow assassin.
"Do you consider yourself a better companion?"
"Of course..."
Dylan's voice trailed off as his body suddenly "puff"ed into a cloud of smoke, taking the opportunity to forcibly break free from the grasp, reappearing a few meters away in an instant.
"Although I am inferior to you in the art of concealing my aura, I am still a professional assassin with twenty years of experience, capable of partnering with you!
After all, only an assassin truly understands another assassin."
Dylan's face bore a proud yet sincere smile.
[Invisibility] was his forte, and unless confined in a completely sealed and sturdy space, he was confident that no other binding method could hold him!
Wang Hui examined his empty hand, carefully recalling the sensation when Dylan disappeared, and a faint inspiration struck him.
Different from the spells of wizards and priests, it was closer to the martial arts of knights and warriors, incorporating a change in the nature of spatial soul power...
Thinking this, Wang Hui's body also "puff"ed into smoke and vanished!
Dylan's expression froze.
This Gord, even in his normal state, had an aura as elusive as a wisp of air, and after using [Invisibility], he was completely untraceable!
Dylan looked around, growing increasingly uneasy.
[Invisibility] was an advanced version of [Stealth], with a stronger concealment effect, but the drawback was that it could not be maintained for too long, serving only as a means of escape and survival in critical moments.
With Dylan's abilities, he could maintain [Invisibility] for a maximum of ten seconds...
And that Gord had been invisible for over a minute now!
When did the Storm Kingdom produce such an extraordinary assassin expert?
No, just looking at the absence of aura fluctuations and the extended duration of [Invisibility], this man could be considered a master!
"No wonder he looked down on me..."
Dylan shook his head with a bitter smile, yet he did not want to miss the opportunity to recruit an assassin master.
"Your unparalleled abilities, I have already experienced firsthand!
Please reconsider, for no organization is more suited to your exquisite assassin skills than the [Gravediggers]!"
Dylan looked around, searching for Wang Hui's whereabouts, while earnestly persuading him.
A platinum-ranked assassin, like a peddler vigorously promoting his own bathhouse services...
He was unaware that Wang Hui had long since returned to his room at the inn.
"Compared to the straightforward martial arts, the methods of an assassin are more subtle and fluid. Could it be that I am inherently suited to be an assassin?"
Whoosh!
Smoke gathered in the room, and Wang Hui reappeared.
[Invisibility] was not a true disappearance but a sleight of hand akin to a wizard's [Dimensional Bag], not breaking the rules of the micro-world.
Yet, to the mini-people, it was as if he had vanished into thin air...
Wang Hui leaned in to listen, and he could still hear the platinum-ranked assassin's voice from afar, which made him smile lightly.
"Although I am somewhat interested in the tricks of an assassin, I have no plans to join your ranks for the time being."
...
The next morning, Wang Hui stretched comfortably on his bed.
This was his first attempt to "spend the night" in the micro-world, and the sensation of sleep was not much different from the outside world, except for the lack of a transition from drowsiness to a refreshed awakening.
His projection body required no washing, remaining clean as ever.
"Sigh, this sleep was soulless! Ultimately, sleeping with my physical body in the outside world is the most authentic."
Wang Hui donned his mask and got up, finding the four young bronze mercenaries already assembled and ready.
"Mr. Gord, please take care of us today!"
