By now, everyone should realise how chinese stories will usually use endearments referring to themselves.

Example: "Father thought that I (or Father) could never see you again!"

Well, it's just how they talk, especially those who are very traditional. Even myself (not Chinese), I do that because it's in my culture. I'll be using my own name instead of using me or I. And depending on the people, using a pronoun that indicates my order of birth.

Oh, if you don't, you'll be judged by everyone as being rude :P Even if you're not.
