Capítulo 18: Opening Meridians
With the enhancement in his speed of cultivation, Lin Fei was able to advance more than he had initially expected. Just from this small increase, Abyssal Devourer Bloodline was well worth the price. But something told him that it was the bare minimum of what it was capable of at Dormant Rank.
The rest of the night was spent cultivating and developing his understanding of the Earth Essence. He saw a prompt from the system that showed the increase from 13% to 19%. With that increase came a renewed sense.
Of course, Lin Fei only spent the first half working on his Earth Essence; the second half was dedicated to advancing his Darkness Essence. By the time the dawn broke out, his meager 1% understanding had increased to 5%.
With that increase came a slight increase in visual acuity, allowing him to see in dim light. It was still weak and not yet a full-blown night vision, but it was as good as any.
Most of the Elements came in some form of Essence Stones. Crystallization of nature's aspects. But they were crude, inefficient, and, most of all, induced impurities in those who used them raw.
Instead, cultivators would usually bring Elementals. An artificial product created by the alchemists to provide growth factor for those who cultivate elements. They were created using the mix of Essence Stones and some essential herbs.
Lin Fei couldn't afford those. Heck, even Core Disciples known for being wealthy couldn't easily afford those. Why? Because Elementals were Tier 5 products. And those cost hundreds of millions in low-grade spirit stones, and even then buying one depended on luck and backing.
However, he didn't suffer from the same weakness. One of the advantages of having an elemental-type physique was being able to absorb any and all sorts of elemental essence without suffering from any detrimental effects like accumulating impurities.
Since the Void Sword Sect kept most of their market open, so as long as he had the capital, he could to buy all nine types of Elemental Essence Stones.
But first he needed to make a small purchase.
Opening the Item Shop in the system, Lin Fei scrolled down to where he had last seen his desired item.

Lin Fei hit purchase and watched as his remaining SP dropped down to 1,320. In the next instant a wooden box covered in ornamental filigree dropped down on his lap. He opened the box to see a small, white, round pill resting on a velvet piece of cloth.
"As fascinating as always." Lin Xinyue commented from the side.
This system was truly an intriguing marvel of existence. It made one wonder if it was connected to the some cosmic warehouse or just created things that its host purchased on the spot.
As a cultivator who had attained true immortality, the subject was one she found thought-provoking and utterly ridiculous. It just went to show how even she, who could sunder galaxies with her inexhaustible might, was not really infallible and still far from the true apex of cultivation.
Lin Fei didn't pay much attention to her captivated expression, lost in anticipation as he was. Instead he took out the pill and tossed it directly in his mouth.
As the product of alchemy went down his gullet, he felt a cool, refreshing sensation spread from his belly to cover his entire body. This sudden coolness seemed to open his mind, clearing the fogginess that he hadn't known existed, and in that very moment all his being focused on one lone task.
Opening the Meridians.
The opening of the meridians was an important prospect for a cultivator, and more often than not, those who attempted this stage earned half-baked results, some failing entirely, others only being able to open a less than desirable number of meridians.
And it was one of the core features that dictated a cultivator's path going forward. The more meridians you opened, the larger your prospects.
Lin Fei didn't desire anything less than perfection, and with the help of the Meridian Washing Pill, the goal was more than achievable.
The energy released from the pill roiled inside his body, and with his expert direction, it was led to every meridian that needed to be opened.
There were a total of twelve standard meridians and eight extraordinary meridians in the human body. The latter were called such due to being associated with energy reservoirs. That's why even without having established a Dantian, a cultivator could still store Qi within their bodies.
However, most refrained from doing so. The reason being: once the Qi started to gather in your meridians without the dantian being open, it would leave impurities in your channels, which can then lead to complications later on.
Lin Fei had already finished opening his 12 principal meridians and was now focusing on opening his 8 extraordinary ones.
By the time he was done, the sun had already set in the sky, and a sense of hunger was taking over. He exhaled a long breath of air, feeling a sensation of liberation that he had never experienced in his life.
For all intents and purposes, this was Lin Fei's first time cultivating and, as such, his first time experiencing the sensation of growing stronger. And it was exhilarating to say the least.
Once more Lin Fei was greeted with a notification from the system the moment he opened his eyes. He noticed the reward this time was 150 SP.
"I'm hungry." He sighed. Hunger hadn't been a problem in his past life when Lin Xinyue used to feed him precious pills that would last thousands upon thousands of years. But now he even had to deal with that.
Despite his grumbling, Lin Fei stood up, cracked his shoulders, and whistled at the feeling of strength coursing through him. If he were to face Chen Wei now, he could dispose of the man with a slap on his face.
"Time to get something to eat."
