The gilded business card bore only a simple name and a series of numbers, reflecting the understated style of influential individuals. Titles and prefixes were deemed unnecessary—knowing them was more important than any titles.

The name on the business card was none other than Bertha.

"Grandma Bertha is on vacation in Sioux City at the moment. If you'd like, I can take you to meet Bertha, the former Elite. Perhaps she can help you," Mrs. Weston suggested.

Bertha, once a Ground-type Elite, was now retired. However, her reputation remained intact, and she was still regarded as one of the rare authorities on Ground-types.

"If that's the case, then please, Aunt Wendy," Alex responded, a bit surprised. Connecting with an Elite-level figure could be a great opportunity for Larvitar. Although retired, Bertha held a very high status.

Mrs. Weston shared the good news that Grandma Bertha was willing to help and that they could visit her immediately.

After a series of arrangements, Mrs. Weston took Alex to a small mountain village where Grandma Bertha was on vacation.

It was nighttime, and the village was very quiet, with the sounds of croaking frogs and peaceful sights all around. A few Meowth lounged by the roadside, basking in the soft glow of the orange streetlights, unfazed by the presence of strangers.

In a quaint courtyard, Alex met the former Elite—Bertha! And alongside her was a beautiful girl with striking bangs and headphones. She had a good figure, with slender and well-toned legs, and her eyes were a rare shade of blue.

"Who is this?" Alex wondered, surprised to see Elesa next to Grandma Bertha.

"Hello, Grandma Bertha. I'm Wendy, and this is Alex, Larvitar's Trainer."

"Hello, Grandma Bertha," Alex greeted politely.

Grandma Bertha appeared very kind and welcoming. Despite the summer heat, the room was cool, and not even a fan was running.

"This is my granddaughter, Elesa," Grandma Bertha introduced, much to Alex's delight.

In his past life, Alex had speculated about connections between various characters from different regions, like Agatha's generation, Bertha, Clay, and Elesa. But in reality, they had no familial ties, and even appeared in different regions.

Now, in this world, Elesa was indeed Grandma Bertha's granddaughter, fulfilling Alex's curiosity.

Although Grandma Bertha specialized in Ground-types, Elesa was known for her expertise in Electric-types. Additionally, Elesa was a renowned supermodel in the region, very popular in the Dragon Kingdom.

Elesa seemed quite interested in Alex, her Cianwood-colored eyes filled with curiosity.

"You're so young and not from a wealthy background. How did you get Larvitar?" Elesa inquired, surprised by what her grandmother had mentioned earlier that day.

Quasi-gods were rare, especially those from foreign regions. Even with a retired Elite as her grandmother, Elesa found it challenging to acquire a quasi-god.

Alex's name was unfamiliar to her. It was incredible that someone from a civilian background could obtain a quasi-god.

Grandma Bertha smiled gently, understanding the situation but not yet explaining it to Elesa.

"The reward for first place in Jiangnan Pokémon University's freshman military training this year was a quasi-god cub, and I happened to secure first place," Alex explained.

Upon hearing this, Elesa's interest piqued.

"Are you number one?" she asked. "Then you must be good at battling!"

Elesa, eager for a challenge, looked at Bertha and said, "Grandma, I want to battle him. If I win, I'll show him how to train Larvitar."

If she lost, however, Alex would still need to pay for Bertha's assistance. An Elite's services weren't free, and the relationship between Wendy and Bertha wasn't close enough to offer a free favor.

"Okay," Alex agreed readily. Saving money was always welcome, and if he won, he could put the savings toward a sports car. There was no reason to refuse.

"One-on-one," Alex proposed. Currently, his team had only one capable fighter—Charmeleon. Riolu was still developing, and its combat skills weren't strong enough to compete.

As for Jirachi, Alex preferred to keep it hidden from those he didn't fully trust. If any sinister intentions arose, he might not be able to protect Jirachi.

"Okay," Elesa agreed.

The villa's backyard had a battlefield, and Elesa led Alex, with Bertha and Mrs. Weston following, to the area. Grandma Bertha, the retired Elite, would act as the temporary referee.

"Alex, if a Pokémon wins or loses, I'll use my trump card," Elesa declared.

She took out a Poké Ball and, witnessed by all, released a black and white zebra-like Pokémon—Zebstrika!

"Roar—" Zebstrika's appearance featured lightning-like hair and patterns, resembling a zebra in every other way.

Alex, just to be sure, checked Zebstrika's level. It was only level 30.

"Alright," Alex sighed with relief. "A level 30 Zebstrika? Charmeleon will handle it easily."

With that thought, Alex confidently released his Pyro Ball.

Charmeleon, stepping onto the battlefield with flames, caught the attention of both the retired Elite and the senior Breeder. Their eyes lit up with admiration.

"This Charmeleon is nearly perfect!" Grandma Bertha remarked.

"The way Alex has raised it is impressive," Mrs. Weston added.

Even Zebstrika, despite having a level advantage, was intimidated by Charmeleon's fierce presence and took two steps back.

"Zebstrika!" Elesa exclaimed, gritting her teeth in frustration. "The battle hasn't even started—how can you back down?!"

With that, the battle commenced, and it was clear there would be no suspense.

"Charmeleon, use Ember!" Alex commanded.

The fire attack, more powerful than a typical Ember, engulfed Zebstrika. Despite its lightning speed, Zebstrika was defeated before it could even mount an offense.

"The battle is over," Grandma Bertha declared. "Zebstrika is unable to battle. Charmeleon wins."

Seeing her granddaughter's disheartened expression, Grandma Bertha felt a pang of sympathy, but she didn't blame Alex. In fact, she was quite optimistic about his potential.

As for addressing Larvitar's internal issues, Grandma Bertha provided a relatively simple solution and shared it with Alex without reservation.
