Capítulo 16: CHAPTER 15 - Another Bet?
The whole class just tried to control their emotions as they heard Ye Feng pestering Xia Lianxin, but there was someone who finally couldn't take it anymore.
It was Xia Lianxin's deskmate, Lili.
She couldn't help it—being up close to Ye Feng's "handsome" face was just too much for her to handle.
With his round face and short hair, his ears sticking out, and his wide grin full of deep lines like craters on his dark face, topped off with a patch on his forehead, he looked utterly unbearable. And to make it worse, Ye Feng deliberately winked and made greasy jokes to amuse Xia Lianxin.
"This point here is used for auxiliary lines, right? I was wondering why the teacher would put a point there during the lesson!" She didn't even understand what that joke, meant—no one did. But Ye Feng Just laughed obnoxiously.
Lili, unable to tolerate the disgusting aura around Ye Feng, couldn't hold back any longer. She had no idea how Xia Lianxin managed to stay calm, but she definitely didn't have her patience.
"Ye Feng, you don't even know this simple problem-solving technique?" He spoke, her tone condescending, as he continued, "I think you should go home, review the textbook, and practice some problems, so you don't waste Xia Lianxin's time."
Then, with her hand patting Xin Lianxin's shoulder she added with a huff, "Xia Lianxin is preparing for the college entrance exams too. She's not your personal maid, right? So, how can you be so shameless?!"
Hearing Lili's sarcastic remarks, Ye Feng casually dug his pinky into his ear and replied without care. "What's the big deal? Didn't the teacher say we should help each other? And besides, by asking a question, I'm helping Xia Lianxin reinforce her knowledge."
Lili, after hearing her reply, had a look of disbelief on her face.
"This is such a simple question, and the teacher just covered it in class. How can you say you're helping Xia Lianxin reinforce her knowledge?!" Lili was furious. "There are so many top students in the class, why don't you go help them reinforce their knowledge? I think you're just trying to get closer to Xia Lianxin!"
Ye Feng, however, was unfazed by having his thoughts exposed.
"I say, Lili, you're not jealous, are you? Because I only talk to Xia Lianxin? Well, let me give you the bad news—you're just average-looking, so you don't have a chance." He looked at her with disgust, before turning toward Lianxin with a smile, "I only help beautiful girls like Xia Lianxin reinforce their knowledge!"
After finishing that sentence, Ye Feng even winked at Xia Lianxin.
"You bastard…" Lili was both angry and disgusted by Ye Feng's words her response slipped out without thinking.
Xia Lianxin, on the other hand, although speechless about Ye Feng's wink, tried to smooth things over.
"Alright, Lili, don't get angry. Ye Feng just likes to joke around." She patted Lili's shoulder, smiling softly before she turned toward Ye Feng with a stern expression. "Ye Feng, you too, just do the question from start to finish. See if there's anything you don't understand."
"Haha, class representative Xia knows how to take care of me!" Ye Feng, listening to her words, just laughed it off.
But Lili couldn't just laugh it off. "…Hmph, Xia Lianxin, you're just too kind-hearted." Not wanting to face such a shameless person, Lili decided to pack up and leave.
Seeing her deskmate leave in a huff, Xia Lianxin couldn't help but feel helpless. Ye Feng may be crude and rude, but Xia Lianxin thought it was probably due to his family background.
Growing up in a poor family with busy parents and living in a rough neighborhood, it wasn't surprising that he was influenced by the local troublemakers and picked up some bad habits.
As for Lili's comments about Ye Feng deliberately trying to get close to her, Xia Lianxin did feel something, but she didn't voice it. She was currently in the critical period of preparing for the college entrance exams and didn't want to affect Ye Feng's mindset, so she planned to reject him directly after the exams.
However, to be honest, seeing a student who had once fallen into bad habits gradually improve academically because of her influence made Xia Lianxin feel somewhat gratified.
It was precisely for this reason that she didn't completely mind Ye Feng's "respectable" appearance. As for what Teacher Liu said about Ye Feng cheating, Xia Lianxin didn't pay much attention to it.
Ye Feng's grades have definitely improved, but he's still only ranked a little over 400th. Does he really need to cheat? Isn't it enough to just read the books to reach that rank?
Ye Feng explained the injury on his hand clearly. It was really painful at the time, and his mom misunderstood, so she took him to see a doctor and even put a splint on his hand. Ye Feng, not wanting to hear her nag, kept the splint on.
Also, what Teacher Liu said about Ye Feng's "despicable behavior" mostly came from her husband, Fang Haoran, who investigated Ye Feng, so it wasn't trustworthy at all.
Xia Lianxin's father works in the crime investigation department and likes to talk about it at home. Over time, Xia Lianxin subconsciously began to think that wealthy people often use shady methods to get ahead.
It must be Fang Haoran using his "money power" to frame and slander Ye Feng.
That Fang Haoran is really despicable. He knows Ye Feng is the only hope for his poor family, yet he goes out of his way to make things difficult for him.
Seeing Ye Feng, who was struggling and stumbling through problems, Xia Lianxin comforted him, "Ye Feng, your grades have improved a lot. Just work a bit harder, and you'll definitely be able to get into the top university!"
"Top university? You really think so, class representative Xia?" Ye Feng's eyes twinkled, and he asked.
"Of course. I think you can do it!" Xia Lianxin, thinking Ye Feng lacked confidence, answered firmly. But just then, Ye Feng, with a voice filled with confidence, asked, "What if I say my goal is S University?"
"S University?!" Xia Lianxin was shocked and instinctively thought it was impossible.
That university was a famous national key university, and it was her own goal as well. Based on her experience, to get into S University, you'd need to be at least in the top ten of the whole school!
Seeing Xia Lianxin's disbelief, Ye Feng had a sly glint pass through his eyes as he confidently spoke up. "Since you don't believe me, how about we make a bet?" He then bent forward, grinning ear to ear as he added, "If I get into S University, you'll be my girlfriend!"
Influenced by Ye Feng's full confidence, Xia Lianxin forgot that Ye Feng didn't say what he would do if he lost the bet. Of course, even if she did ask, with Ye Feng's shamelessness, he'd probably just say, "If I lose, I'll be your boyfriend!"
Xia Lianxin, after a moment of hesitation, wanted to refuse. Even though she thought Ye Feng was just bragging, she didn't want to make a bet about being someone's girlfriend as she didn't like betting feelings.
However, before she could speak, she was interrupted—it was Liu Quingshuang.
"Ye Feng, please leave. The teacher needs to talk to Xia Lianxin." Liu Quingshuang spoke as she walked over, throwing Ye Feng a disgusted look before she gently called out to Xia Lianxin, "Lianxin, let's go!"
Hearing Liu Quingshuang's tone, Ye Feng, who had wanted to stubbornly follow her, smiled awkwardly and got up to leave. But before he left, he confidently turned back and said loudly, "Class representative Xia, don't forget our agreement."
Hearing this, Liu Quingshuang gave Xia Lianxin a suspicious look. "Agreement? What agreement?" She questioned, but Xia Lianxin, not wanting to mention Ye Feng's 'unrealistic' challenge, just shook her head. "It's nothing..."
She planned to talk to him about it later.
But Liu Quingshuang noticed the complex expression on Lianxin's face, and she instantly knew that the two of them shared some little secret.
She couldn't help but wonder why even after her warning, was Xia Lianxin still so close to Ye Feng.
She grew extremely anxious, as she knew that this naive girl was about to fall into the trap of the big bad wolf.
