Although Valletta was a leader within the Dark Faction, she didn't seem irrational, so Riveria couldn't quite figure it out.
Coming all this way just to attack the Sol Familia's expedition? Unless something had gone terribly wrong, it didn't make sense.
And judging by the current state of things, she didn't appear capable of launching a successful attack alone.
Valletta herself gave Riveria a strange feeling.
To put it bluntly, why did she seem so weak now, almost like an ordinary person without any aura?
With her companions' lives no longer in immediate danger, Riveria's mind settled, and she began to examine the captives before her more closely.
No matter how she looked at them, these people resembled a defeated army.
What could have happened in Orario during the time she was away?
Riveria frowned, though she didn't worry too much.
After all, her god was being guarded by Alfia, someone even stronger than herself, so there was little concern for his safety.
Without restraint, her god was probably enjoying himself immensely at this very moment.
At the thought of Sol, a small smile appeared at the corner of Riveria's mouth.
But it quickly faded.
She left the interrogation to Kennen, a ninja who, in many ways, was truly a master of the craft.
Before long, he pried the truth out of the prisoners, and a wave of information about recent events in Orario poured forth.
"They massacred everyone on the 27th floor?"
Hearing the information Kennen had gathered, Riveria could almost visualize the scene on the 27th floor, bodies strewn across the ground.
These people were truly hopeless…
There was no reason to show them mercy. If it weren't necessary to hand them over to the Guild for judgment, she would have gladly executed these monsters on the spot.
"Lan, keep a close eye on them. Poppy, Veronica, Kled… come with me to the 27th floor. Everyone else, get some rest!"
Riveria quickly issued commands, then set off at a brisk pace toward the 27th floor with a few members of her team.
Perhaps they were already too late, but…
What if someone was still alive?
They rushed to the 27th floor, and the hellish scene that greeted them was shocking.
There wasn't even a single intact corpse left; it looked as if the bodies had been devoured by monsters.
"This… something isn't right here…"
Suppressing her sadness for the victims, Riveria felt an unsettling sensation.
Everything about this place felt wrong. Valletta had mentioned they'd drawn monsters from the surrounding three floors, even the floor boss.
Even if all the adventurers were dead, there should at least be monsters visible. Yet there were none. Not a single one.
Moreover, there was no sign of any magic stones or monster drops. Surely the adventurers would have defeated a few monsters? And where was the magic stone from the boss?
Even the giant Amphisbaena was gone…
Could that creature be hiding underwater somewhere, lying dormant?
Or had it been taken down by someone else…? Could the Guild have sent another group to rescue the adventurers, or did another force clean up the battlefield?
"Look! Someone's still alive!"
Poppy pointed ahead, where a female elf in white was slowly moving, bracing herself against the wall.
Without hesitation, the group hurried over to her.
As Riveria got closer, she recognized the figure.
The elf's eyes were void of life, as if she were moving forward in a daze.
Her clothing was reduced to tattered, dusty rags, stained with dried blood, and the heavy scent of blood clung to her. Her clothes were barely covering her.
Despite her suspicions, Riveria wrapped her cloak around the elf without hesitation.
The girl was in terrible condition, but surviving was already a stroke of luck in this nightmare.
"Felvis? Felvis, can you hear me?"
The girl was the captain of the Dionysus Familia, a second-tier adventurer.
Riveria had done her homework on the Captains of other Familias, especially the elves, so she recognized Felvis immediately.
Sensing her fragility, Riveria pulled her into a comforting embrace and gently patted her back.
The soft touch seemed to stir something in Felvis, her eyes gradually regaining focus.
"How are you feeling?" Riveria asked with a gentle smile.
"Riveria-sama…?" Felvis lifted her head weakly, surprise flashing across her face as she recognized Riveria.
"It's all right now. You're Felvis of the Dionysus Familia, correct? Can you tell us what happened here?"
After resting for a moment, Felvis's awareness returned bit by bit.
Gradually, the scene from the 27th floor began to replay in her mind.
The horrific memory made her clutch her head, terror flashing across her face as cold sweat dripped down her cheek.
"Don't worry. You're safe with us now."
"Monsters… they were everywhere… everyone's gone… all dead."
Her voice trembled as if reliving the nightmare.
It was clear she wanted to avoid remembering it.
This was understandable; judging by the devastation around them, it was not a memory anyone would want to revisit.
To help her recover, Riveria decided they should rest here a while longer.
She instructed Poppy and Veronica to keep watch nearby, positioning them so they were always within her line of sight and ready to assist if needed.
As they rested, a group of adventurers passed quickly through the 18th-floor safe zone, showing no signs of stopping as they ventured deeper into the dungeon.
It was a team of advanced adventurers, and the monsters here posed no threat to their progress.
Soon, the sound of footsteps echoed from the entrance leading from the 26th to the 27th floor.
Riveria instantly gripped her staff, calling Poppy and the others to her side and entrusting Felvis to their care.
But seeing familiar faces, she lowered her guard.
