100% Helluva Boss: The Better Boss / Chapter 18: "Spending Habits" (chapter short)

Capítulo 18: "Spending Habits" (chapter short)

"Moxxie!" I called as I stepped into his small office, deliberately avoiding the paperwork scattered across the entire place. When talking to moxxie we'd occasionally have small disputes between each other, majority of it being my own doing due to my sudden bursts of affection towards him and his wife.

I had to prevent that from happening in the future, but for some reason it kept occurring even when I mentally check myself before I walk up to the two.

This time, I wanted his attention. He looked up from his desk, where a neat stack of spreadsheets waited, his eyes narrowing in curiosity.

"Sir?" he asked, his tone cautious but without the usual edge of exasperation.

I leaned against his desk, keeping my voice steady. "We've made some good strides lately—jobs have been smoother, and the newly cleaned and rebuilt rooms has been a game changer. But there's still a few weak links in the chain."

He adjusted his collar. "And that would be?"

"Communication for one." I let the word hang for a moment before continuing. "Our current setup is a joke. Garbled earbuds and missed intel cost us precious seconds out there. It's time we invest in a real system—something that gives us an edge."

Moxxie sat back, crossing his arms. "I won't disagree. I've been tracking the inefficiencies for months. But where do you plan to get the funds for this upgrade?"

I gestured toward the spreadsheet he'd been working on. "That's why I'm here. I need your blessing to use a chunk of our profits. I've run the numbers myself—well, sort of—and I'm confident this is a sound investment."

He blinked, clearly surprised. "You're actually thinking this through?"

"Don't act so shocked," I said with a smirk. "You're always saying we need to be more strategic. So here I am, being strategic. Can we afford it?"

Moxxie examined his spreadsheet again, tapping a finger against his chin. Finally, he nodded. "We can afford it, barely. But only because you've been better about keeping expenses in check lately. And breaking less things."

"See? I'm learning." I clapped him on the shoulder. "Now let's get this ball rolling."

A week later, the office was buzzing with energy as the new communication system was unveiled. Sleek headsets replaced our outdated gear, each equipped with crystal-clear audio, GPS tracking, and even a panic button. Millie couldn't wait to try them out, Luna muttered something about not needing "fancy tech," and Moxxie…well, he was grudgingly impressed.

The real test came on a mission in the Wrath Ring—a high-risk job involving a heavily guarded mansion.

"Millie, you're up," I said through the headset. Her response came instantly, her voice sharp and clear.

"Already on it, boss!" she replied, and moments later, the sounds of her axe echoed through the comms.

"Moxxie, take the east side," I instructed. "Millie will draw their attention while you get in position."

"Understood," he replied, his voice calm and focused.

With the new system, I could monitor everyone's movements in real time. When Luna alerted us to the target trying to slip out through a hidden exit, I redirected Millie and Moxxie in seconds. The mission wrapped up quickly and cleanly, the kind of precision that hadn't been possible before.

Back at the office, I leaned back in my chair, feeling uncharacteristically satisfied. "Not bad, huh?"

Moxxie set down his tablet, his expression thoughtful. "I'll admit, this was a smart move. The orderliness we gained today made a real difference."

"See? That's what I'm talking about," I said, grinning. "This is just the beginning, Moxxie. Bigger clients, bigger jobs, and way bigger paychecks. We're not just surviving anymore; we're thriving."

He gave me a small, almost imperceptible smile. "Just don't let it go to your head."

"Too late," I said with a wink. I knew this wasn't just about my ego. but I felt like I was leading I.M.P. into something greater by the day.
