Capítulo 2: Fantastic Beast's Guide

After half an hour of hard work, David finally separated poisonous leopard into two piles of bones and flesh through dissecting. Before David could speak, the poisonous leopards recently separated bones and flesh flew back and were stored in the cabinet with gentle flick of Newt's wand and the cabinet was immediately locked. David looked at Newt with bitter look as if asking: "Was that really necessary?"

Newt showed a wry smile while quickly changing the subject, he took out some beast feed from the bag in the corner and handed it to David, "Little David, Alexandre hasn't been fed yet. Go feed him before he gets grumpy. You don't want to lose his favor, do you?"

David took the fodder and made his way reluctantly towards a gate next to the studio.

Alexandre, an elegant and mysterious Demiguise, had been given his long, distinguished name by David himself. The creature's melancholic, noble demeanor seemed to fit the grandiose title perfectly.

Walking along the path past the habitats of various magical creatures, David arrived at a towering oak tree. He held up the fodder and called out, "Alexandre! Alexandre!"

After waiting for a while, a silvery, ape-like creature appeared on a large branch, its sleek fur shimmering in the sunlight. Alexandre brushed aside the hair covering his forehead, revealing a pair of black, jewel-like eyes. He regarded David with quiet curiosity before descending gracefully to the ground. David placed the fodder in his hand nearby at ground and stepped back, giving Alexandre space to eat. As the Demiguise nibbled delicately, David crept closer, inch by inch, tentatively reaching out his hand.

Alexandre shrank, eyeing David warily. After a moment's hesitation, he resumed eating, deciding the boy posed no threat. David was overjoyed, after weeks of patiently waiting, he had finally earned Alexandre's trust. Gently, he placed a hand on the creature's silky fur. A magical energy surged through David arm to Alexandre, a warm, magical force that seemed to connect him with Alexandre. The Demiguise raised his head and glanced at David with a puzzled look as if felling something, then gave up his elegant way of eating and began to chew the grass.

At this moment in David's mind, the illustrated book—his mysterious, magical artifact—sprang to life. A new page flipped open, and the magic power from Alexandre's body merged into it, forming a page of the picture book. Revealing an elegant image of the Demiguise alongside detailed information:

Race: Demiguise

Habitat: Far East

Temperament: Gentle, shy, herbivorous beasts

Abilities: Can become invisible; possesses short-term seer ability; its fur is used to weave Invisibility Cloaks.

This book had appeared in David's mind during a magical outburst years ago. At first, he was thrilled, and began dreaming of using it to dominate the magical world. However, those dreams were quickly doused in cold water when he realized that the book couldn't be opened or activated at will—it was simply there, floating uselessly in his mind.

After this incident David became quite depressed for some days and started playing along with Pickett, Milli and Moller. As time went by there relationship became better and Pickett, Milli and Moller started to trust and enjoy David's company. Until one day when Pickett, the Bowtruckle, bonded with him. The book absorbed Pickett's magic, forming a new page. David discovered he could now summon a magical replica of Pickett, though only for a limited amount of time. Each summoning depended on his own magical strength and had a cooldown period.

The process was risky, when Pickett magic was first absorbed, the little creature fainted for days, leaving David terrified he'd killed him. Newt's wrath would have been swift and unforgiving. Thankfully, Pickett eventually recovered, albeit slowly. Now, as David bonded with Alexandre, the same process occurred. The Demiguise's magic was absorbed into the book, leaving it momentarily weak. David felt a pang of guilt but reassured himself that the dimiguise will recover soon.

This newfound power put David in moral dilemma.

Should he continue bonding with magical creatures, knowing it weakened them temporarily?

Could he bring himself to harm them—or worse, turn them into dinner? David wasn't sure he wanted to follow in Newt's footsteps.

David stopped thinking about all those things temporarily, as he returned to the workshop to fetch more fodder for Alexandre, he found that Newt had vanished likely off bonding with another magical creature. He sighed, grabbed another bucket of fodder from the enchanted, seemingly bottomless bag, and headed back to the oak tree. Alexandre devoured the fresh pile of food, his appetite seemingly endless.

"Maybe I'll need my own enchanted bag just to keep up with you," David muttered, shaking his head as he watched the Demiguise eat al the fodder in the bag.

After feeding Alexandre, David strolled to a clearing in that magical habitat. Wooden stakes stood in rows, each scarred with burn marks and scratches from years of spell practice. David pulled out a wand from his coat, a secret gift from Newt, in exchange for keeping some of Newt's secrets hush from Tina, David had convinced him to give a wand.

The wand wasn't a perfect fit, and David felt its resistance as he channeled his magic. The resistance has become more obvious as his magic grew. He aimed at a stake and called, "Expelliarmus!"

A burst of light shot forth from the wand but missed the target entirely, landing in the dirt nearby.

David sighed, shaking the wand in frustration, "It's the wand problem again."

Expelliarmus is one of David's first spell. As one of Harry Potter's signature spells, Expelliarmus had proven handy many times. Harry used it to overcome seemingly unbeatable foes, including the formidable Inferi and, ultimately, Voldemort himself.

How could David not practice it relentlessly?

After all, one day, this spell might become the key to keeping himself alive.

Time passed unnoticed in the magical space, with its ever-changing, timeless environment. David practiced spells until his arm ached and sweat dripped from his brow. Suddenly, a blue paper airplane zipped toward him. He grabbed it, and it unfolded, revealing a message:

"David, dinner is ready. If you're late again, Tina will be furious!"

The note ended with an illustration of Tina, flames blazing around her in anger.

David chuckled. "Better not risk it."

......

When David returned from the magical space to the dining room, he found Newt sitting at the table, looking unusually well-behaved and Tina standing beside him, arms crossed, staring at him with a sharp, unyielding gaze.

"Grandma!" David called out quickly, trying to break the tension. He was genuinely worried Tina's glare might do Newt in.

At the sound of David's voice, Tina's stern expression melted away into a warm, doting smile. She turned toward him, just about to speak, when Newt suddenly sprang from his chair and rushed to David's side.

"David, are you hungry? I'll get you a pocket watch later. You know, so you won't lose track of time and end up starving!" Newt exclaimed, putting on an overly concerned face as he steered David to the table and firmly seated him in a chair.

"You said the exact same thing last time!" Tina snapped, her glare back in full force as she directed it at Newt. But then, her expression softened again as she turned to David, lovingly serving some roasted meat from a large platter onto his plate.

"Eat up, dear. Take your time and be careful not to choke. If it's not enough, Grandma will make more for you," she said sweetly.

"Thank you, Grandma," David replied with a polite nod, digging into his food. He couldn't help but glance at Newt, who was busy slicing his own meat, his focus entirely on avoiding further confrontation.

"Grandpa," David thought to himself with a smirk, "it's clear you'll be 'roasted' by Grandma for the rest of your life."
