"I admit it, I admit it…"
"Still feeling cocky?"
"No way, ma'am…"
"Still think you're all that?"
"No, no, I'm nothing…"
The Cryo Abyss Mage hung upside down in mid-air, restrained by a whip forged from blazing Pyro elemental energy wielded by Kiichi.
Every time the Cryo Abyss Mage dared to say something that displeased her, the fiery whip lashed its body, leaving charred marks as evidence of its punishment.
The sound of each crackling whip strike was accompanied by a sharp sonic boom and a spray of sparks, causing the mage to tremble uncontrollably whenever it heard the sound.
The seemingly angelic smile on Kiichi's face only made the Cryo Abyss Mage more certain—it was the smile of a devil.
"Hmm… Let me ask one more question."
Her half-lidded gaze carried a chilling calmness as she spoke. "These Hilichurls are under your control, aren't they? Why are you here? Or better yet—what's the plan you mentioned earlier?"
The Cryo Abyss Mage fell silent.
"…I see."
Understanding it wouldn't talk, Kiichi gave up on further interrogation.
Since she couldn't extract information about the "plan," she lost interest in tormenting it. The fiery whip in her hand transformed into a spear, its blazing tip pointing at the suspended mage.
"Any last words?"
A heavy silence hung in the air before the Cryo Abyss Mage spoke with a resigned tone.
"Victory shall belong to the Abyss. Glory to His Highness!"
The blazing spear plunged through the Cryo Abyss Mage's body, flames consuming it instantly. When the flames finally subsided, nothing remained except for a glowing branch emitting a faint light.
Kiichi reached out and caught the branch, her eyes narrowing slightly.
If she remembered correctly, Abyss Mage drops were linked to the Ley Lines.
The branch emanated rich vitality, a stark contrast to the sinister energy radiating from the Rift Hounds' claws.
She briefly entertained the idea of forging both materials into a weapon but dismissed it—their conflicting energies made it impossible.
Just then, she sensed movement.
Peering past a large chunk of ice, she spotted a Pyro Abyss Mage nervously poking its head out to spy on her. When it realized it had been seen, it froze for a moment before bolting away in panic.
Kiichi pocketed the branch, deciding to deal with it later. For now, she set her sights on following the fleeing mage.
Thanks to her innate stealth ability, Presence Concealment, the Pyro Abyss Mage remained blissfully unaware of her pursuit.
She trailed it all the way to a cave entrance.
The mage glanced around cautiously before sneaking inside, its behavior almost comically suspicious. It didn't take a genius to guess there was something significant hidden within the cave.
Confident in her abilities, Kiichi didn't hesitate to follow.
Upon entering, she discovered the cave wasn't as natural as it appeared from the outside. Signs of artificial modification were everywhere.
And then there were the Hilichurls—many of them, digging away methodically.
Hilichurls could dig, sure, but not with such coordination and efficiency.
"So, it really is the Abyss Mages controlling them. But what's here that's worth all this effort?"
The fact they were still digging suggested the mages hadn't achieved their objective yet.
Meanwhile, the Pyro Abyss Mage made its way to the deepest part of the cave, where it found the Electro Abyss Mage.
"What's the situation outside?"
"It's bad. We need to retreat. That one is a monster," the Pyro Abyss Mage said, its tone laced with fear. "Not just Cryo—she can use immensely powerful Pyro elemental energy too. Our comrade was killed by her."
"She can wield two elements?!" The Electro Abyss Mage's voice rose in shock. "Could she be one of the Fatui Harbingers?"
"I don't know. I didn't see a Vision on her, and honestly, I don't think she's even human."
"Whoever she is, the Abyss' great mission must not be disrupted."
"So, what about this place?" the Pyro Abyss Mage asked hesitantly. "Are we abandoning it?"
"Abandoning it won't suffice," the Electro Abyss Mage replied grimly, as though making a final decision. "We still don't know what lies here, but to be safe, we must destroy all traces of this site."
Kiichi, meanwhile, continued to track the Pyro Abyss Mage, relying on faint Pyro traces it left behind. The concept reminded her of the Traveler's Elemental Sight ability from the game.
As she moved, she passed countless Hilichurls, yet none paid her any attention.
"Hilichurls, Shamans, Mitachurls… I thought I wiped out most of the camp earlier. Turns out there were still so many hiding here."
Initially focused on her quarry, Kiichi soon found herself distracted.
"What's this? Are all the ores in this world of such high quality?"
Her golden eyes gleamed as she examined a chunk of Cor Lapis in front of her.
While its quality wasn't extraordinary, its sheer abundance was remarkable.
In her previous life, finding so many high-quality ores in one place would've been unthinkable.
"These ores seem perfect for forging weapons for Sara. But they're rich in Geo elemental energy. If only I had some Electro materials to complement them…"
Her musings were interrupted when she noticed something odd.
The Hilichurls had stopped digging. Now, they were transporting barrels filled with Pyro and Electro Slimes.
"…Oh no."
Anyone with a basic understanding of Teyvat's elemental interactions knew that combining Pyro and Electro caused Overload reactions—explosions far more devastating than any single element could achieve.
And in a cramped, unstable cave like this? The resulting detonation would be catastrophic.
Sure enough...
Boom!
