The sun hung high in the sky as Kael stood on the sidelines of the freshly marked field, his arms crossed as he surveyed the two teams of soldiers gathered in front of him.
The hastily constructed goals stood at either end of the field, their rope nets swaying lightly in the breeze.
The players, now divided into two teams of eleven, were ready or as ready as they could be for a game they had never played before.
Kael stepped forward, holding the cloth ball in his hands. "Remember, men," he began, his voice firm, "this is a game of skill, strategy, and teamwork. But above all, it's about having fun."
The soldiers chuckled nervously, shifting on their feet.
Most of them were still wrapping their heads around the rules, and Kael could see the mix of excitement and uncertainty in their expressions.
