Since coming to this world, it was the first time Rafael had felt this much pressure. Being in Esmer's presence was like being in the presence of an important political figure while having some kind of aura or magical energy pressuring you. When he asked about a stolen item, this pressure doubled and Rafael had to endure it in silence and without showing that he was being affected. What was frightening was that the color in the Blood Mage's eyes constantly changed between crystal green, amber green and dark green like a beast constantly watching him.
Now, while he was sweating and breathing as if he had run a 40-kilometer marathon, he was grateful that everything went well. He hoped that Esmer would take the egg issue seriously and not do anything too grand with it. All this talk about the egg having strong powers of destiny were just lies invented with the intention of making Esmer doubt its protections that not even the system could pass. Besides, he finally got information about Kalindor…
He didn't understand why the system hadn't given him a mission about this survivor yet. But he was already preparing himself. Esmer and Immortal could be the only ones who knew about this Valyrian Blood Mage. The information about the fireworm egg was something very valuable because it could also be used to domesticate any other type of animal.
Going to bed that night, all Rafael did was do his best to meditate before falling asleep due to mental fatigue.
Thinking that he would sleep late today and miss sword practice and language class, Rafael was woken up by a loud bell. He woke up startled when he realized what the bell meant: some hostile ship was approaching. Rafael jumped out of bed and quickly put on his shoes, confirming that he was already wearing his leather armor under his clothes. It made sense on a ship to sleep prepared for a fight. Being caught in the middle of the night without armor was a mistake that no experienced or novice sailor would make.
Leaving the cabin to see the situation, Rafael saw two medium-sized sailing ships approaching. They were still a few minutes away, and one of the crew said that they had not given any sign of contact.
They were pirates!
Since we still had some time, I ordered them to shoot with the scorpions and focus on only one of the ships. Then I took off my leather bracers and put on the metal ones. When I looked to the side, I saw Omar holding one of the most beautiful swords I had ever seen. A name came to mind, but I quickly left it just in my thoughts.
Omar gave the order for the men who could fight to prepare themselves and the others who could not to remain in their cabins. Soon the first scorpion shot the left sailboat followed by the second scorpion which was on the bow of the ship.
Henry shouted:
"Keep firing and try to sink the left ship! And prepare for close combat with the right ship."
Everyone nodded and waited, the archers on our side began to climb the masts trying to secure a higher position. As the two ships approached so they could shoot arrows at each other I took cover behind a barrel, but not before seeing at least 30 men on the deck of each enemy ship, I then waited for the final approach.
Our right scorpion finally hit the left ship again and went for one of the masts, the mast broke with the force of the huge arrow falling on the second sail of the ship and finally stopping it, only within range of arrows. Henry shouted again:
"ARCHERS, HEAVY FIRE ON THE LEFT SHIP. DON'T LET THEM SHOOT US!"
At that moment, the second sailboat finally hit us with its side hull, aligning the two ships side by side and starting the conflict. I came out of cover and took out my rusty sword. I had gotten used to using it during training and it was much lighter than the other one I bought at the blacksmith along with the armor. As soon as the fight started, I left cover and attacked a man who was heading towards another crew member. He was distracted and was caught off guard by me. The sword, even though rusty, was still sharp and cut him from the neck to the abdomen, making him fall to the ground. Right after that, I looked in all directions for the next enemy and had to throw myself to the ground to avoid a pirate who came swinging on a rope from the other ship. The damn thing that came "flying" caught me off guard and almost cut me. I stood up and saw him returning on the rope, before pointing my hand at him:
Fireball!
The flame hit him and he returned in flames during the reverse swing of the rope to his ship before the rope also burned and he fell still screaming from the high temperatures. I didn't pay attention to him before looking around and seeing almost everyone ending their fights. I put away my sword and took out my two pistols before shooting in a pirate who was still resisting.
"BANG"
After the loud noise, the bullet hit him in the chest, making him fall immediately. The firearm made such a huge and unprecedented bang, making enemies and allies look at me before I pulled the second trigger, shooting another pirate in the head. This immediately made the last 3 living pirates drop their weapons and surrender. All the men in my crew looked scared at the weapons in my hands, which were still smoking.
I kept them and took out a crossbow shooting at the other distant ship and this made all the men wake up from their fright as they realized that the battle was not over, soon our ship approached the other one that was partially destroyed. Only then did we notice that most of the pirates were already riddled with arrows thanks to our archers and few were left, so they were taken care of without even needing me to go there.
In a way it ended faster than I expected, for a first fight using the small scorpion certainly helped us avoid the attack of two groups at the same time, as we would have been attacked by almost 60 pirates instead of the unlucky 30.
Suddenly, we heard heavy, metallic footsteps drawing the attention of everyone on the ship, and we saw a huge, rounded armor walking on the deck of our ship. I couldn't help but burst into laughter when I saw Fatty Zhang covered from head to toe in heavy metal and holding a huge axe, but conveniently it was already too late for him to take part in the battle.
I left the crew to take care of the details of the looting and went to have breakfast with Omar and the Fatty armored man. While we were there I looked at Omar and his sword and he said it was a gift from his father. I nodded in admiration because I knew it was a magical treasure made of Valyrian Steel.
Now after the end of Valyria the sword is undoubtedly priceless. Fatty asks about the noise he heard, and Omar looks at me and seems to want to ask about the pistols, but doesn't, since he's also kept his sword a secret until now. I tell Fatty that it was a magical invention that I created. It doesn't take long for the first mate to find us and begin his report:
"We have 8 surviving pirates who have surrendered, the others are dead or seriously injured. On our side we have 2 injured crew and no casualties. The 2 ships have a fair load of tapestries, probably looted from another unfortunate traveler who was attacked, and we have also extra food for 7 days and extra water for 16 days. The Captain said you two can decide what to do with them We can take them to the next town and sell them into slavery or hand them over to the courts. and collect some reward from the local Lord, but to do so we would have to feed them for 1 month. The simplest solution is usually to throw them into the sea and leave their fate in the hands of the Gods."
I notice that the first mate doesn't talk about silver or gold, it seems that the tapestry cargo and the sale of the ship would also be divided between the Captain, the officers and the men.
"Omar, you decide about the ship and the tapestry cargo."
I then turn to the first mate and add:
"Keep the prisoners chained up, I'll use them as guinea pigs, if they survive my experiments I'll let them go."
"Yes sir! What about the injured pirates? Should we heal them so they can be guinea pigs too?"
"There's no need to waste medical resources, execute them all!"
The first mate nods and leaves our cabin.

Meanwhile, Esmer's disciple is reporting to his master about the battle that took place:
"Master, did you hear the noise? After those bangs, the two pirates fell dead, struck by something that no one could see! I've never seen or heard of such sorcery before! Do you know anything like it?"
"I've told you before, you need to be more humble. Even among the apprentices, there are those with a deep legacy and inheritance. He can already be considered a Senior Apprentice if he has mastered at least two fire spells. It doesn't matter if he inherited these totems from his family or mastered them on his own, power is still power. You should find out about this meeting they're going to have with Zaya. Making friends with other apprentices before they become official Mages or Masters will only be good for you in the future."
After the apprentice nods and leaves Esmer's cabin area, he remains reflecting for a long time, trying to find something in his memory about the magical weapon used by Rafael.
Meanwhile, in Liza and Zaya's room:
"You won't believe it, Omar has a Valyrian Steel sword! I saw it myself and when I asked him, he confirmed it! I also asked about the loud noise we heard and he said that it was Rafael who used a strange weapon. When I asked one of the crew members, he said that he had never seen such a weapon before in his life! It can hit the enemy from afar without anyone seeing anything, all they saw was a bloody hole in the dead bodies. They are saying that it is a powerful magical weapon. Aren't those two amazing?"
Zaya was out of patience for the first time. Ever since the pirate attack, her sister had been praising the owners of the sailboat. When it came to magic, she always helped her sister without ever getting angry, but talking about boys was really out of the interest of someone as nerdy as Zaya. Although she was very interested in the so-called "magical weapons", it was only an interest in magical studies and not in the owner of the weapon. Suddenly Zaya's thoughts were interrupted when her father's apprentice and fellow student of magic arrived in her cabin. After entering he began:
"Zaya, I heard that we are going to have some kind of apprentice meeting on board, when you know the details, let me know the date, if I'm not too busy I will attend."
Just as he came, he left without saying good morning, without asking if I was okay or any unnecessary conversation. Straight to the point, as expected of Vitarys... The young man of noble Valyrian origins sees himself above all else, and just like me, his interest is only in magic. But it is clear that he is also interested in the meeting or he would never have come to ask me. Without knowing anything about this meeting I have no choice but to ask Liza, who runs excitedly to Rafael's cabin.
