Julian and his friend Davy were celebrating one last time in Valyria before starting a new life tomorrow. The two had bought passage to Asshai and hoped to gain experience at sea on such a long voyage. It was said that many men became rich on such voyages by plundering and pillaging pirate ships and other shipwrecks. They hoped to earn enough to buy their own ship and recruit their own crew.
But fate had different plans for them. During their last night's drinking, a bar fight broke out over a game of chance and everyone involved was sent to jail.
Both Julian and Davy were being accused of vandalism and violence even though they were not the ones to start it. They would now no longer be able to board the ship, and there was even a chance that they would end up as slaves. With a terrible future awaiting them, the two friends wallowed in sadness and accepted their unjust end.
That was until the next day, when a huge tremor followed by one of the loudest sounds they had ever heard created a gigantic crack in the prison wall, allowing both friends to escape from the prison. Unfortunately, their happiness was short-lived, as they realized that they were surrounded by lava coming from all directions. With no other choice, they climbed the stairs of the first tall building they saw and escaped immediate death in the flames.
While Davy sat on top of the building, watching the lava on all sides and gradually rising higher and higher, he accepted the cruel fate that was imminent. Julian, a little more optimistic, decided to search the building in the hope of finding some good food for a last meal. If they were going to die, at least they would die with a full stomach.
The building seemed to be used for commercial purposes, but Julian soon found food in an item similar to a refrigerator. In the largest room on the top floor of the building, he also found very expensive drinks and several dozen gold coins. He took these too and took them to his friend in the hope of making him laugh a little and forgetting what awaited them below. In the end it really worked, the food and coins they would never earn in their entire lives made them laugh at their cruel fate, and the good quality food along with the top-notch drink was great, it was no lie to say that it was one of the best meals of their lives, they had never eaten anything like it before.
When the meal was over and they thought they were doomed, they heard a roar and looked up to the sky where they saw the popular yellow dragon of the northern district coming towards them. They could not believe they were saved! A dragon lord came to rescue them, as soon as the majestic and divine creature landed on top of the building they clung to its paws and began to escape, feeling life return again, the two remembered the coins in their pockets that they shared while playing and were overjoyed!
The constant change from condemned in prison to free men, close to death by lava and now alive, poor and suddenly rich. They really felt that fate was testing their wills. But all they had to do was think about it and they went to hell again!
There was another explosion, similar to the first one they had heard when the prison wall was destroyed, and with it flames and rocks flew into the sky. The dragon they were holding onto began to move quickly, trying to escape the rocks thrown into the sky and making its centers of gravity constantly change. Suddenly, Julian slipped only for Davy to be able to catch him with one hand, while still holding on to the dragon with the other.
In that desperate moment, the two were hanging on the verge of falling and by a miracle the dragon got out of range of the volcano's explosion, barely having time to breathe again, the dragon flew down towards the sea and swung its paws hard, throwing the two into the sea.
Like a joke of fate again, they were in a situation where they didn't know if they would live again. That was until 40 minutes later, when a small fishing boat came along and saw them waving and shouting, after climbing aboard, both Julian and Davy were so grateful that they shared the rest of the food they had in their bags, they also came across an old man and a woman, the old man had his arm broken at a horrible angle, but Davy knew how to deal with that kind of injury, he helped the man put his arm back in place and did what he could for him, if they could get medicine from another ship maybe the old man wouldn't have to lose his arm.

Just minutes before the disaster, a meeting had been arranged inside the already closed Sleeping Dragon. The people gathered here were Magnus and Kuzar. After less than 2 days of war, Magnus convinced Kuzar to agree to a truce, he was now explaining that he had no interest in Kulan's business and that this revenge was against the wrong person. Kuzar, who was calmer, was making some demands, but Magnus was very articulate in his arguments.
It was then that in the middle of the argument a terrible tremor and a loud noise broke all the windows of the familiar tavern, shaking the entire Sleeping Dragon, everyone tried to hold on to something, while the place seemed to spin as it sank into the ground, the right side of the tavern began to disappear as they were freefalling in complete darkness. When the tavern stopped spinning, a loud noise was heard before they finally managed to stand upright again. When the few survivors left through the double doors that had disappeared, what they found was a dark place with no way out. The tavern had sunk into the ground of the Valyrian city, it was almost a miracle that some of them still survived.
Now locked in the dark everyone was desperate about how to get out of here. Soon the two leaders of the Triarchy made several men try to climb in the direction of the only light, which is where they fell, but even after almost an hour of climbing they still hadn't reached the top, it was then that a second horrible tremor knocked everyone down. tried to escalate, killing them on the spot.
The second tremor not only dashed Magnus and Kuzar's hopes, but also caused the temperature underground to rise. Feeling thirsty, Magnus went to look for water in the rubble of the family tavern, when he heard the noise of stones and several screams. Coming out of the rubble he saw something terrible:
The men were being burned alive by a creature that resembled a giant red serpent with a dragon's face, its body was very long and full of scales and it had small limbs on its elongated snake body. When the monster was unable to bite and devour someone, it simply it opened its mouth and spat flames at its targets, when Magnus looked at the bodies on the ground he saw a Kuzar that was missing half of the waist down.
Desperate, he held his breath, and hid in the rubble. He knew what devilish creature it was… A terrifying fire worm!
A monster that only the poor slaves deep within the 14 flames had ever witnessed. Waiting in silence and with his heart beating fast, when Magnus gained enough courage to look at the creature again, it was already gone, all he saw was a new light that this time was at an acceptable height. Being cautious he went to Kuzar taking his shadow bag, which was full of blood and viscera, he dropped a drop of blood into it. A mocking smile formed on his face as he looked at the contents of the bag, he spat on Kuzar's corpse as he spoke:
"Bastard, thank you for all your wealth, I'll put it to good use when I get out of here and become the new and only crime lord in all of Valyria."
Then he headed in the direction of the new light, it was a tunnel dug by the monster that killed everyone here, finally leading him to an exit to this cave.
But unfortunately for Magnus, the exit from the tunnel was at the top of a mountain and as soon as he left, he rolled down the mountain, seriously injuring himself and almost dying. Spitting out blood while keeping his hand on his ribs he looked and saw that his two shadow bags remained on top of the mountain as he rolled. His face now distorted completely, he could feel the direction of the two bags, but he had no way of climbing, even more injured as he was.
With no choice he went towards the sea to find a boat and left the bags to be collected later, but suddenly to his surprise, the two blood bonds of the bags disappeared, when he looked back he saw lava coming out of several holes in the sea. mountain, desperate he ran even faster until he reached the sea and began to swim with all the strength he had left.
At a certain point, Magnus no longer remembered how long he swam, he was exhausted and his injuries got much worse, and when he was finally about to give up, he managed to survive the disaster by being rescued by boats from other survivors. But now, without his land, his men, his ships and the two bags he lost on the mountain… He was as poor as any other refugee.

In the What If 2 chapter that comes out this week I will talk about dragon eggs. I know many of you wanted Rafael to have stolen one, right?
In this chapter I explain why I didn't do this in Valyria and I explain all the reasons for not doing it, but if I had done it how would I have written it?
