I haven't released all the slaves yet, I want them to stay in the cell until I leave the mansion because they might attack me or cause a commotion. So I had the two women who returned to the basement give them new clothes. And then I had the two women and the third who was free in the basement collect all the food from the pantry in preparation for their escape. I returned to a small room in the basement where the two brothers were tied up. I took off my mask so they could see my face, Omar and Zhang did the same thing. We didn't say anything and continued to just look at them with a smile on the corner of our mouths before I finally broke the silence:
"Looks like old Brown is having a pretty good life, to think there would be 3 storage bags here, this was an unexpected gain."
I took them out of the hidden pocket of my robe and spoke the false words again, breaking the blood bond of the bag. I saw the despair in the brothers' eyes as they felt the bond with their bags disappear. Omar and Zhang kept smiling, I told Zhang to choose his bag first, then I gave one to Omar and I kept the last one.
Fatty quickly dripped his blood into the bag hoping it was the one belonging to Mr. Brown, but when he saw its contents and emptied it on the table there were only 25 gold coins, 200 silver coins and several bags of copper that could not be counted, the rest was just trash. Fatty got an ugly expression, this was definitely not his father's bag.
"Don't worry, Fatty, we will divide everything equally, but I will give a part to the slaves as compensation."
Soon he cheered up again and Omar and I opened both bags together: Three gold bars, 240 gold coins, 265 if we include the 3 bags, the silver coins came to close to 1000 and the copper was still inside the bags. I took 165 gold coins for myself, gave 100 plus a bar to Omar, and the last two bars to Fatty who happily kept them all.
Then we took 200 silver coins each, leaving the remaining 300 still on the table along with all the copper in the bags. After looking at the brothers who were devoid of beauty one last time, I gave them the sleeping pill, but made sure that the dose was the largest of all, something around a little more than half. When we left the small room, we dragged the two of them to several pairs of chains that were meant to keep the slaves out of the cells and tied them to them.
The girls had already made a few trips to the kitchen and had plenty of food. I showed them the room and said that I had at least 10 silver coins for each slave, the three of them cried with emotion and thanked me. Then I went to the cell where most of them were already dressed and told them that I was the Red Sage. I told them about the coins, the food, and also that they should not kill anyone. They would have two days to escape from Valyria before the end of everything came. He also said that there was a blacksmith on the ship Valyrian Sigh who could remove their chains, but that they should go there by tomorrow at 12:00 or they would lose the opportunity to remove the chains.
Before leaving, I signed the name Red Sage on the wall of the hold with ink and then took the 3 girls to the gate. Only then did I give them the keys to the slave cells and we joined Sir Arthur's men to return to the carriage that was left in the forest. Before boarding, Omar and I gave the two men 30 gold coins each. Inside the carriage I looked at the system and saw that the revenge mission had been completed, I was satisfied that it was completed without the need to kill them, even if I didn't complete this mission I would still do it the way it was done by the old Rafael. All I gained from the mission was experience again, but I still didn't level up. It seems that only the main quest will give me that extra level before leaving Valyria, our carriage headed towards our old neighborhood, we still had one last thing to do.
The carriage stopped near the inn where I had my first meal in the Valyrian Freehold. I took out the ink and Omar and Fatty helped me write. I wrote in red ink as quietly as possible; it was after 2:00 in the morning, so there was no one outside. After writing the message, I threw 4,000 copper coins and about 100 silver coins all over the place next to the inn.
Then we got into the carriage and started to drive around several streets. I stayed on top of the carriage and threw loose coins and bags with large amounts of copper into the entrances of houses. Soon the noise caught the attention of some people and we left. Because of the darkness of the night, the chance of people seeing the money was small. So it didn't matter if they heard the horses or the noises hitting their walls and roofs.
When we were back at the port, I got off a little early to do some extra work that would later earn us more money. I sent the others back to the ship and started walking towards some busy bars and taverns.
As I walked, I reflected on what we had just done, including the part about the coins. This was a request from Omar himself. He had always taken care of many people in our neighborhood, whether by paying for meals, drinks or lending money when they were in need. So this was his final gesture to help and warn our former neighbors of the danger that was coming. The question was, would they believe our words? It didn't matter to me, because it would no longer be our responsibility.
When I got far enough away from the port, I went to a quiet street and knocked on a certain man's door. He was surprised by the time and I told him I had an urgent job for him. I placed a bag of silver coins in his hand. He quickly smiled and told him to come in. Before he could say anything, I started placing several paintings on the tables and on the floor. In addition to the paintings I had obtained from the many bags I had stolen with Jack, I also had at least 20 more from the Brown house. Before the man could react, I asked for a summary of each painting and also of some other ornaments and sculptures I had brought. I had left out the most popular ones that I had been able to identify from my library, but there was a lot of art that was fake and I wanted to get rid of those that had little value. He turned on several lights and started talking. I took the opportunity to register everything in the system, only when I had time would I do the physical transcription.
There were some works that he only identified who they were by or the artistic style used, but that was enough for me. When he finished, it was almost 5:00 in the morning. I gave him 50 gold coins and left 9 items behind. They were all of low value, heavy or very large. The man's mouth dropped open before greedily accepting everything while thanking me.
After leaving, I paid attention to make sure I wasn't followed before taking off my red cloak and mask and returning to the ship. Right at the entrance, I saw a line of people and I knew they were the slaves from the Brown mansion. I waved to the blacksmith to continue his work removing the shackles. Now that he had the tool he used to free the children, it wouldn't take long to take care of these 35 people. I went to my cabin to get some sleep and asked Aisha, who was already awake, to call me at 7:30. After all, it was my last day in Valyria, and I didn't have much time to rest. After she agreed, I fell asleep quickly.
While I slept for less than 3 hours, chaos began in the city...
Chapter 2/2 of the day!
There are only 10 chapters left until the end of volume 1 \o/
Sorry for the delay in the chapters today, I was hoping to launch the Patreon together with the two chapters, but that didn't work out because I didn't finish the translations in time. But everything should be fine by tomorrow and I'll post the link for you. Today I'll just give you the details:
Everything on it is very recent. It's my first time creating one too.
I've divided the Patreon into 4 levels. This may change in the future.
To celebrate the Patreon being open, all 4 levels will enjoy the benefit of the new +18 chapter that tells a little more about Liza and Omar's past.
When the second chapter is released, those on levels 2, 3 and 4 will read it first. When the third chapter is released, the second will be open to level 1 and the first will become public to all readers and so on.
In addition to the side stories, we will have 2 new AI fanarts. One of Rafael and another of Liza. We will also have a discord server for members to talk directly to me. Readers at level 3 can choose names for new characters in the novel and vote to choose which side stories they want, and those at level 4 will have their own characters in the story. This level is limited to only 5 people at the moment.
