Their conflict had not been worse only because they no longer had their Blood Mages. That was until the current Lord of the Nytaryens went on a journey around the world with his dragon and returned to Valyria with 2 mysterious new Mages who put an end to the Century of Slaughter and restored balance between the two eternal enemies. These mages were of course the powerful Immortal Necromancer (who had a different name at the time) and the Blood Mage Esmer. What few knew was that their contracts were very strict, each of the contracted mages received something very valuable that they needed, but due to necessity they had no choice but to agree to sign a blood contract to serve the Nytaryens for 1000 years. But as both were very cunning mages who had already lived for a long time, they found loopholes to "escape" from these contracts.
The contract of the Immortal, who at the time was called the Lord of the Dead, was to serve for 1000 years or until the day of his death. And Esmer had to serve for 1000 years or until the deaths of Old Tian and the Countess. And this opportunity only arose now 700 years later. With the death of the Immortal at the hands of the Faceless Men, he finally escaped 300 years earlier, and in addition, he helped contribute to the death of the Countess, allowing Esmer to also escape.
The reason these two worked together was that both magicians had an agreement as well, this contract was very simple: Immortal should help Esmer in the death of Tian and the Countess and Esmer should help in the next resurrection of the Immortal.
