Capítulo 44: Let them Live in the Shadows

Listening to the voice behind him, Bai Yi's expression remained unchanged. Alban, on the other hand, was visibly restless. This time, when he was allowed to go out, Bai Yi had been prepared for trouble, especially from this guy. Thankfully, the situation hadn't escalated beyond what he had expected—killing someone wasn't a surprise.

Otherwise, most of the people on his list wouldn't be wealthy figures who owned casinos and brothels. Cash flow was one thing; understanding how to manage it was another. Naturally, he avoided targeting wealthy businessmen who were true allies.

"Boss, what kind of milk is this? It tastes amazing. Is it expensive?" Luo Ning asked, her eyes sparkling with delight. She had a few milk stains around her mouth, which made her look quite adorable. With a slightly rounder face, she would be the perfect little loli.

Irene, standing beside her, shot a resentful glance, furiously biting her straw, clearly attempting to kill Luo Ning with her eyes.

"If you like it, drink more. I'll have people deliver it starting tomorrow. Each of you can have two bottles a day," Bai Yi said with a grin.

The milk cost about five silver coins per bottle, which, in terms of the White Plague's economy, was equivalent to fifty copper coins worth of coffee. With his increased income, he could afford to indulge himself. He had raised the prices of drinks tenfold and had also taken better care of Luo Ning, who was far too thin. Though her message hadn't been the most critical, it had been a great help.

Thanks to the recent conflict, he had gained at least three million gold coins, a significant fortune. Before the auction, he could afford to be reckless in improving himself, even upgrading the entire pharmacy's defenses.

Luo Ning's eyes brightened, and she looked at Bai Yi with admiration. "Thank you, boss. You're so kind."

Irene, on the other hand, was in disbelief. Her stingy boss had suddenly become generous. Something was definitely off.

"Boss, the store was just robbed. Are we going bankrupt? Is this the last celebration? What about our wages?" Irene asked hesitantly.

Bai Yi, who was about to leave, shot her a speechless look. "You're slandering the boss. I'll deduct two gold coins from your wages!"

Irene's eyes widened in horror. "Eh? No, please don't! This is all my hard-earned money, boss! You can't do this!"

Bai Yi ignored her frantic protests and walked toward the laboratory. Irene didn't seem to resemble an elf at all. She was clearly an elf from the Moonlight Clan—cold, with white hair and a fairy-like face. But her personality? More like a Husky in disguise.

"Damn it, black-hearted capitalists!" Irene muttered, her eyes narrowing.

Bai Yi glanced at her, withdrawing his mental power. The white-haired elf fell silent, just glaring at him and biting her milk straw hard, looking thoroughly aggrieved.

He couldn't help but notice her and the hesitant Luo Ning, who seemed on the verge of offering comfort. After a moment, he spoke up. "You've been working overtime lately, so I'll give you two gold coins as a bonus. Don't let it happen again."

As he entered the laboratory, Miss Elf's expression softened.

In the corner of the lab stood shelves filled with alchemical books, basic knowledge for the craft. Bai Yi's mind briefly shifted to the upcoming auction. Fame was the key—his current recognition wasn't enough, and it made him uneasy. The shadow of the Night Rose loomed large. Among the 30+ congressmen, one was a member of the Night Rose, a truly daunting connection.

But exposing the congressman now wouldn't bring any benefit to the Dark Night Rose—only losses. Holding this information, however, gave him leverage, a trump card to wield if necessary.

Bai Yi took a piece of paper and wrote something with his fingertips. There were no visible words, but his eyes revealed traces of his mental power. After a short while, the paper began to reveal a series of unfamiliar ideas—ideas that would shape the future and significantly impact the three major federations.

Bai Yi sifted through them, finally settling on three key titles that slowly emerged on the paper as his mental energy continued to influence it:

1. **Alchemy Magic Network**

2. **Alchemy Intercontinental Railgun**

3. **Dawn Communications**

These concepts, brought forth by players, combined real-world technology with advanced alchemy. Each had the potential to drastically alter the landscape of war.

The Alchemy Magic Network, in particular, was already showing signs of development. Alchemists, focused on offensive and defensive capabilities, initially shied away from such ideas, but once Bai Yi's surveillance capabilities surfaced, they quickly embraced inventions like the DVD, making substantial profits. The network would soon expand, and Bai Yi's auction would allow him to recruit the right people to consolidate it.

Producing **Dawn Communications**—essentially smartphones—required a lot of manpower and market strategy, but Bai Yi was confident that his reputation and the influence of his magic could help him succeed.

As for the **Alchemy Intercontinental Railgun**, it had been inspired by a player's suggestion but perfected by the Alchemist Sage. This weapon could now target cities thousands of kilometers apart, thanks to precision guidance technology. Bai Yi could produce this missile in advance, ensuring that it would be unique in a world where the three major federations were not yet connected to the Internet.

Bai Yi also considered the concept of a **steam train**, a technology that could revolutionize the federation. Steam trains could connect major cities and make the federation more unified and secure. This kind of technology didn't require extraordinary resources, just basic engineering knowledge, and it would generate immense profit for anyone willing to build the necessary infrastructure.

Reflecting on this, Bai Yi grew more motivated. The potential of steam locomotives was limitless in an extraordinary world, and any businessman with foresight would seize the opportunity.

Finally, he decided that for now, the priority was to get the film ready in a month. He was eager to see the progress and couldn't wait to see how the players would respond when they saw the Dawn Federation thirty years into the future.
