Capítulo 40: Treatment Of Genius

The murderous intent in Kami's eyes sharpened with each passing second, while Mossen, atop the approaching magic lion, slowly made his way toward Baiyi. The atmosphere on the battlefield shifted subtly, as if the very air itself had thickened with tension.

In just one month, this alchemist had gone from a bronze-level to mid-silver.

Everyone present understood the significance of this achievement. Though it might seem like a rare stroke of luck, the strong were not concerned with the process—they only cared about the outcome. And the result was clear: Baiyi had become a genius. A super genius.

More importantly, they understood the value of such a genius in the Federation. Alchemical talent of this caliber was rare—and dangerous. To some, it was a potential weapon; to others, an opportunity for unparalleled progress.

Baiyi paused, a flicker of understanding crossing his mind. A faint smile tugged at his lips. Between quietly making his fortune and basking in the spotlight, he'd chosen the latter from the start.

Now, he saw no reason not to let his fame soar even higher.

In a federation like this, one could either remain a shadow, unnoticed, or you could shine so brightly that everyone would take notice—and protect you out of fear or respect.

Buzz—

The strange sensation of his [124,900] experience points resetting echoed through the air. The calm atmosphere was shattered, replaced by an overwhelming surge of energy. Baiyi's mental power flared, distorting the space around him as he became an almost unreal presence, standing apart from reality itself.

Kami's gaze deepened, as if something unexpected had caught her attention. A moment later, a soft, almost imperceptible gaze swept over the battlefield. It wasn't forceful, but it was impossible to ignore.

Kami's sword slid back into its sheath, and the tension in her posture melted into something more complex. She eyed Baiyi with an unreadable expression. If the feeling just now was correct, then this 18-year-old alchemist's talent had reached SS rank. Though the very highest might be a stretch, a second-tier rank was still more than enough to make him a legend in the making.

S-level talent meant a possibility of greatness—something no major city would allow to be harmed. No city lord, at least, would stand by and let such a genius be lost to fate.

Baiyi glanced towards the inner city, a knowing glint in his eyes, then turned back to Kami. "It seems I was right," he said softly.

He relaxed his posture, allowing the crackling energy to subside, and the glass crystals he had been holding vanished into the folds of his windbreaker. Turning his attention back to the three objects left in the blood pool of the Scarlet Priest, Baiyi raised his hand, focusing his mental power.

An invisible thread wrapped around the dissipating soul of the Scarlet Priest, tightening it within his grasp. As a [Soul Gourmet], Baiyi had no intention of letting such a prime soul slip away. The mental power surged, now compressed and honed to a sharp edge. His strength had already reached 279, a formidable amount for an alchemist of his level—just shy of the 300 threshold that marked the beginning of true mastery.

Soon, a translucent, faintly glowing pink orb materialized in his hand.

Using two skill points—[Silver Divination Mental Training Method] and [Mental Power Control]—both of which were maxed out, Baiyi's control over the soul was flawless. His plans for the [Soul Gourmet] specialty were beginning to take shape. With this windfall, he could finally begin preparing for his next steps.

Kami's calm voice broke the silence. "Tell me your conditions. You can't keep that."

Baiyi's face softened in amusement. "Giving it to you doesn't concern me. But I believe there's a matter we need to address." His tone darkened. "A large-scale robbery took place in the inner city."

He paused for effect, and the room seemed to hold its breath.

"Half of my material warehouse was stolen. The loss is close to 200,000 gold coins. Do you have any idea how catastrophic that is for an alchemist running low on resources?"

Kami's expression softened with understanding. She'd spent nearly a month in Dongwu City and had heard many rumors about Baiyi's notorious stinginess. He was infamous for his frugality—rumor had it he once treated a client paying 10,000 gold coins with a cup of coffee worth mere copper.

It wasn't surprising, then, that he would be furious over the loss of such valuable materials.

"Five hundred thousand," Kami said with a firm voice.

Baiyi didn't even flinch. To him, five hundred thousand was a lot of money, but it was not enough to rattle him after his recent experiences in the silver market. He'd seen things of far greater value in the past few days.

"The magic scroll I held was worth 300,000. Now, I'm left with only three pieces of gold equipment. I'm still at a loss," Baiyi said with an even tone.

Kami's brow furrowed slightly. She'd expected a reaction, but Baiyi was unbothered, as if money had lost its power over him.

"Six hundred thousand. That's all we have," Kami said, a slight twitch of annoyance in her voice.

Baiyi nodded thoughtfully. "Seems you've underestimated the value of the Scarlet Lord." He thought for a moment, then spoke with a purposeful tone. "In a month, I'll host an auction in Tobu City. There, you'll see the dawn of a new era in alchemy—soul crystal cores and other groundbreaking technologies will be on display. The Scarlet Lord will be the centerpiece of the event."

Kami paused, her lips tightening. "Being too greedy will only harm you."

Baiyi met her gaze with a steady look. "During this time, I'll place the power of God in the City Lord's Mansion. If you're thinking of seizing it by force, I advise you not to. It would only lead to unnecessary conflict."

Baiyi tossed the ancient god's flesh and blood toward Mossen, then bowed slightly to Kami. "I hope Miss Will will honor me by attending in a month."
