Capítulo 62: Tyrant's Obsession Gate
Continuing from where he left off, Dominic said, "We have arrived in Hoshito today to request your vocal support in our coming raid of the High-Yellow 'Tyrant's Obsession' Gate!"
Hearing this, the crowd became even more rowdy, but Dominic was not yet finished. "If the more generous among you are feeling froggy, then you can even support us in the monetary sense! But again, you do not need to, and only the most loyal of fans should even consider it!"
Like an expert at this game, Dominic was able to slip in his true objective while still making himself and the rest of the MoonShiners appear humble and magnanimous. In the eyes of the people of Hoshito, a B-Rank Hunter Party should never be in need of money; after all, they netted tens of millions of USD every year. However, what they failed to account for was the insatiable greed of the human heart.
A couple of the MoonShiner members, such as the vivacious Stella, were secretly appalled by the behavior of their Party Leader. But they could do nothing but stand back and keep quiet while looking pretty.
Cassius, with his heightened senses, was able to understand a lot of things. Moreover, with his Intelligence stat thrown in the mix, the truth of their appearance here was quickly surmised.
He sighed.
'I expected more from a powerful party of B-Rank Hunters, but I guess the human heart is as fickle and materialistic as ever.'
Cassius's piercing blue eyes flickered as he wondered how people could possibly be so greedy for something so useless.
In the last period of time, during his secret conquest of dozens of Gates, he collected too many Magic Shards to count, with some even being individually worth thousands. Yet, even after bringing them to the Hunter's Association and selling them under an anonymous identity for reduced prices, the six figures in his once-empty bank account didn't go to his head. He kept the money in mind, but beyond that, life for him continued as per usual.
Cassius never stopped working at Bookworm's Paradise, even though he could likely purchase the whole store and then some.
He met the seemingly bipolar Bella nearly every shift; he went out with the meek Grace every now and then, yet not once had he entertained the idea of gloating about his wealth or even showing it off.
Simply put, he found something greater than measly dollar bills to pursue—strength.
After experiencing more than a month of the Idle Evolution System's sadism, Cassius's mindset hardened to the point where true, hard-earned power was the only thing that interested him. His yearning for greater character development further incensed the Idle Evolution System, subsequently prompting it to give out Side Quests left and right. And with him now needing to perform thousands of sword swings every day, everything was gradually becoming too much for him.
However, for some stupidly weird reason, the insane hell difficulty of the system's tasks only made Cassius more excited. This unnatural behavior pushed him to newfound heights, with his previous weak-willed self nowhere to be seen.
Now, even without the extra benefits from the Idle Evolution System, he was bringing in nearly a dozen stat points a day, all acquired because of his absurd will to strive. His AP had reached astronomical numbers, as he hadn't spent a single point since saving Memphis, yet his stats only kept increasing.
At his current rate of advancement, it surely wouldn't be long before he reached the minimum suggested requirement to attempt HELL's 1st Floor. Though, that was a matter for another time.
With Newbie Sword 2 kept close to his hip, and veins bulging from his arms, Cassius listened to Dominic, the MoonShiner party head, go on and on about the noble aspirations of their Hunter Party. For the most part, he was the only one who spoke; however, to maximize fan benefits, those like the expressionless 1st Vice Leader Lexi and 2nd Vice Leader Issa voiced their nonsense.
Yet, like moths to a flame, thousands of Hoshito citizens ate up their words like they were the most appetizing things ever.
'When faced with beings of higher and more luxurious statuses, those with sheep mentality will simply break,' Cassius thought evenly. 'The pebbles that these people will provide to the B-Rank Hunter Party certainly won't amount to much, yet this whole charade is occurring for that very reason… It's sad, really…'
He was about to walk away and resume his weighted grind when he suddenly saw something extremely interesting. On the fair neck of the lively Stella, there was a necklace.
The necklace was encased in beautiful blue sapphire and gold, but it was rather the symbol embedded into the necklace that truly attracted his attention. It was that of a magnificent tree, with the tree's branches being uncountable, and the tree's luster an eye-catching greenish iridescence.
'That symbol is…' Cassius seemed to recall blurry memories from a time before he could even speak—a time when his mother was still around. 'That's right. My mother used to wear a necklace identical to this one, yet it was enveloped in jewels far more magnificent and polished.'
On the surface, the necklace he was seeing on this woman and the necklace from his memories in no way looked like they were of the same origin. However, with that uncannily similar symbol, the truth was unmistakable.
'If this Stella has some sort of connection with my mother, then I need to figure out the truth of the matter.'
Cassius's eyes dangerously narrowed as he flashed away from the crowd, his destination unknown.
After a while.
Dominic, along with the rest of the MoonShiners, descended the stage and walked away from their passionate fans. Just as they were going to enter a luxurious golden-black limo and begin their journey toward the B-Rank Gate, Stella's expression morphed ever so slightly.
For the first time in a very long while, she was letting her true emotions show. Yet, with very little time to deliberate, she stopped in her tracks.
