Capítulo 298: Chapter 298: Nara Shikashin: Fortunately, This Guy Is an Ally

The matter between Shinki and Pakura was none of Nara Shikashin's business, and he wisely chose not to meddle.

After Shinki gave a summary of the events from the previous night, Shikashin silently raised a hand, offering a thumbs-up.

It had to be Shinki.

This strategy would undoubtedly keep Konoha's leadership awake for days, pondering the dilemma. Was it a genuine suggestion or an intentional trap?

Shikashin felt it was both.

On the surface, Shinki's proposal seemed weak, even audacious, but if executed correctly, it could truly resolve Konoha's issues.

Why does the Fire Daimyo provide so much funding for Konoha's development every year?

To strengthen Konoha and rely on its ninja to safeguard the nation, of course.

If Konoha were to reduce its ninja forces or withdraw troops from the border camps due to financial strain, it would leave critical areas defenseless. Enemies could exploit this, targeting the rich Land of Fire.

The Daimyo, who had already experienced losses to the Sand Village two years prior, would never allow such vulnerabilities.

If the idea of reduced protection frightened him enough, he would ensure Konoha received funding immediately—no delays, no excuses.

Even if the Daimyo was seething with anger, he'd have no choice but to comply, all while maintaining a cordial facade toward the Hokage.

"This suggestion…" Shikashin hesitated. "Even if it succeeds, it'll make the Hokage hated by both the Daimyo and the village ninjas."

"What does that have to do with us?" Shinki replied nonchalantly.

"Uh…"

Shikashin was stunned by Shinki's indifference.

This guy is ruthless.

Thankfully, Ino-Shika-Cho was allied with him.

If they had been enemies, Shikashin couldn't imagine the torment Shinki's cunning would bring. The endless deceptions and schemes were terrifying to contemplate.

Shikashin knew the Hokage would likely adopt Shinki's suggestion. Based on his understanding of Sarutobi Hiruzen, the Third Hokage would prioritize immediate solutions over long-term consequences. The resentment of village ninjas and the Daimyo could be dealt with later—solving the current crisis was paramount.

Hiruzen would likely reason that offering future benefits could eventually repair his reputation with the village. As for the strained relationship with the Daimyo? That could remain in a stalemate, as long as the funding kept flowing.

"Well, if that's settled, I'll return to coordinate with the others and ensure the funds are transferred to the Hokage's office," Shikashin said.

For Ino-Shika-Cho, securing the Jonin squad leader position was worth the cost. The three clans had prospered over the years, and spending a little to maintain their influence wouldn't hurt.

After Shikashin left, Pakura entered with tea in hand, the timing perfect.

"Next time, just come in directly. No need to wait outside," Shinki said, glancing at her.

Pakura placed the teacup on the desk. "Aren't you worried I'll leak village information to the Sand Village?"

Shinki chuckled. "Why would I care? Everyone already knows Konoha's financial issues. Even if it gets out, it won't matter."

Pakura was momentarily speechless. The logic was bizarre, but it seemed to work for Shinki.

"By the way," Shinki added, "ditch the secretary uniform. Go to logistics, get some proper gear, and join the ANBU on field missions. We've added tasks unsuitable for puppet masters lately."

Pakura's eyes lit up. "Got it!"

She much preferred missions over being cooped up as a secretary. The restrictive uniform was uncomfortable, and she welcomed the chance to stretch her legs.

Shinki smirked, noticing her enthusiasm. "Why didn't you say anything about the uniform being too tight? Did you think I deliberately wanted it that way?"

Pakura hesitated, feeling awkward. "Isn't that what you wanted?"

Shinki raised an eyebrow, his forehead creasing with frustration. "Do you seriously think I have nothing better to do than design overly tight clothes for my secretary?"

Pakura blinked, realization dawning. She hadn't measured herself for new clothes in ages, and it was no wonder the uniform didn't fit anymore.

"Go to logistics, get your measurements updated, and have them make a new set of clothes. When you're back from the mission, you can resume as secretary if needed," Shinki said, slamming the table for emphasis.

Pakura blushed with embarrassment, quickly turning to leave. She realized she'd overthought the situation entirely.

Shinki sighed, watching her hurry out. "Some people really have the strangest ideas."

He leaned back in his chair, shaking his head. It seemed even the most capable ninja had moments of absurdity.
