Chapter -45[part-1]
Thud, thud, thud.
Marcus and his friends stepped outside just in time to see Dudley holding Malfoy's head down as Malfoy fainted.
There was only one way out of Slytherin, and to let Snape know what was happening, they had to pass through the common room.
But what they saw next was a total shock! The older students in the meeting room clearly didn't expect to find such chaos outside. The common room was a mess, with little wizards sprawled out everywhere, unable to get up.
They had thought Dudley was just dealing with Malfoy and a few other small wizards, but it turned out he had taken down all the little wizards, leaving only Malfoy standing.
What kind of spell could have caused this?
A super powerful Stunning Spell?
Or maybe some kind of special curse?
And why were they all holding their backsides? Was that part of the spell's effect?
The older Slytherins couldn't help but raise Dudley's danger level in their minds.
This Dursley was no joke. And if Dudley was this strong, how much stronger could Harry Potter be? The idea that Harry had grown up in a Muggle family suddenly seemed a bit hard to believe.
As thoughts raced through their heads, the older students exchanged glances, their expressions showing a mix of respect and concern for Dudley.
The seventh-year prefect was deep in thought.
Why were the two brothers split between Gryffindor and Slytherin?
There had to be more to this story.
Could it be that Potter—no, Mr. Potter—was planning to take over Gryffindor first and then Slytherin?
Once that thought popped into their heads, it was hard to shake off.
Even without realizing it, they started to respect Harry a little more.
Among all of them, Marcus seemed the least affected; his mind was too busy trying to process everything.
Oh wait, he was actually just focused on Malfoy.
"Hey! Let go of Malfoy!"
Marcus pulled out his wand and aimed it at Dudley, shouting, "Stupefy!"
A flash of dark green light shot from his wand, and without thinking, Dudley grabbed Draco to use him as a shield against the spell.
Since the older students had shown up, Dudley had been keeping an eye on them.
Poor Malfoy, who had only fainted from fear, now found himself hit by a Stunning Spell.
Looks like he wouldn't be waking up anytime soon.
"Darn it!" Marcus cursed and tried again, casting, "Petrificus Totalus!"
Dudley, still holding Malfoy, lifted him up like a human shield to block the spell once more.
Marcus wasn't giving up, though. He fired off several more spells, including some dark curses, all of which Dudley blocked using Malfoy as a shield.
For a moment, Dudley wondered if they were really there to save Malfoy or if they had a grudge against him.
He thought he heard one of them mumble something about "old something tying knots."
Poor Malfoy, completely clueless, ended up taking in at least ten spells all at once.
What a deal for him!
While using Malfoy as a shield, Dudley grabbed Goyle with his other hand, looking ready to face the older students: "Are you guys enemies?"
He could handle the younger students, but facing off against older ones who knew a lot of spells made him a bit nervous.
Unless he could take them out in one hit, he didn't want to hold back.
The reason he was being cautious was that, aside from Marcus, the others were just standing there watching.
'Is this magic?'
Using Malfoy as a shield was one thing, but grabbing Goyle as a weapon left the older students stunned, and they took a moment to process what was happening. After hearing Dudley's words, they quietly moved away from Marcus, making it clear they weren't on his side.
"Got it," Dudley nodded, feeling a strange camaraderie with them, as if they were old friends who didn't need to say much.
Only Marcus was still in the dark.
"Put down your weapons—no, put down Malfoy and Goyle."
Marcus aimed his wand at Dudley again, unsure of how to handle the situation; it was the first time he had seen someone use another person as a weapon.
Not knowing what to do didn't mean Dudley would just stand there, especially since he didn't like having wands pointed at him. He casually tossed Malfoy to the ground and, still holding Goyle, walked to the other side, lifting Crabbe as well.
These two made for pretty handy weapons, and having them around eased his nerves. Malfoy was lying sideways, frozen under the spell, and not really suitable as a weapon, plus there was a strange smell coming from him. But just the sight of Dudley lifting Crabbe was enough to scare Marcus.
So, reflexively, he cast another spell. "Expelliarmus!"
Expelliarmus is a spell that young wizards learn early on; it makes the opponent's wand fly into your hand, which is super useful since wands are essential for casting spells.
But here's the catch: Dudley didn't have a wand, just Goyle and Crabbe.
So the question was: do Goyle and Crabbe count as weapons?
Dudley had studied the spell carefully; it works based on your perception. If you think a wand is a weapon, it'll act on the wand; if you think a bow and arrow is a weapon, it'll act on that; if you think a gun is a weapon, it'll act on the gun.
But there's a limit: it can't affect living beings. Otherwise, if someone fights with their fists, would casting Expelliarmus make their hands fly away? What if someone's head was considered a weapon? Would casting Expelliarmus on the head make it fly into your hand? That would be way more brutal than Avada Kedavra!
Can you imagine Hogwarts teaching students to "Expelliarmus the head"? A bunch of young wizards running around holding their enemies' heads would be a terrifying sight!
